If you are using a retail version of Windows Vista, you should have the 64 Bit DVD, too. Use it and reinstall your WIndows. The key works for 32 and 64 bit. "A programmer is just a tool that converts the caffeine in code" Deputy CLIP - http://www.winvistaside.de/

    Hello

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Communities. I understand that you are unable to open msconfig on the computer.

I understand how it could be frustrating when things do not work as expected. Please, I beg you, don't worry I'll try my best to resolve the issue.

    1. what operating system is installed on your computer?

    2. have there been recent changes to the computer before the show?

Please go ahead and follow the steps mentioned and later a update on the State of the question.

Method 1: Rof the United Nations [System File Checker] SFC scan on the computer that would be a search for system files corrupted on the computer and replace them.

For Windows 7 and Vista: http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929833

    For Windows XP: http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/310747

Method 2:  Also try to scan your computer for the Microsoft Security Scanner, which would help us to get rid of viruses, spyware and other malicious software.

The Microsoft Security Scanner is a downloadable security tool for free which allows analysis at the application and helps remove viruses, spyware and other malware. It works with your current antivirus software.

Note: The Microsoft Safety Scanner ends 10 days after being downloaded. To restart a scan with the latest definitions of anti-malware, download and run the Microsoft Safety Scanner again.

Note: The data files that are infected must be cleaned only by removing the file completely, which means that there is a risk of data loss.

  • What can I reinstall/upgrade Vista Ultimate OEM 32 bit Vista Ultimate 64-bit using the upgrade CD that I bought?

Please help me with the steps I must follow to upgrade/reinstall my Vista Ultimate OEM 32 bit Vista Ultimate 64-bit.  I bought the upgrade CD, but I keep reading that I can't upgrade, I have to re - install.  How do, or have I just wasted my money?

    Thank you

    David

The two DVD come in the box of Vista Ultimate.  The same upgrade key works for both.  The procedure is to let the 32-bit version on the hard drive for the verification of license and a custom installation will work.  The hardware hash will be the same and the product key is the same for the activation servers to happen anyway as a repair installation.

  • I have reset my laptop and I don't have the set up cd, I have the license key for vista ultimate can I download

I have reset my laptop and I don't have the set up cd, I have the license key for vista ultimate can I download

    Hello

    "I reset my laptop."

What do you mean by that?

There are several methods to reinstall Vista.

There is no Windows Vista downloads available from Microsoft.

You can contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send you a set of recovery disks.

They should do this for a small fee.

To reinstall Vista using their recovery disk/s, you start from the 1st recovery disk they provide and follow the manufacturer's instructions to reinstall:

You need to change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order:

How to change the Boot order in BIOS:

    http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fixtheproblem/SS/bootorderchange.htm

"How to replace Microsoft software or hardware, order service packs and replace product manuals.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/326246

And if you have never received a recovery disk when you bought your computer, there should be a recovery Partition on the hard drive to reinstall Vista on how you purchased your computer.

The recovery process can be started by pressing a particular combination of the key or keys at startup. (Power on / start)

    Maybe it's F10, F11, Alt + F10, etc., depending on the manufacturer.

Ask them to the proper key sequence.

And if you do not score a manufacturer of recovery on your hard drive, you should be able to make your own recovery from her disks to reinstall the operating system.

Go to programs > name of the manufacturer of your computer > then their system or recovery tools software topics for them, depending on how it is formulated.

If you can't find any reference to it, contact the manufacturer for advice on how to make these recovery disks.

Some manufacturers have more available Vista recovery disks.

If this happens, you may need to try this instead:

You can also borrow and use a Microsoft Vista DVD, which contains the files for the different editions of Vista (Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate) must be installed. The product key on your computer / Laptop box determines what Edition is installed.

Other manufacturers recovery DVDs are should not be used for this purpose.

And you need to know the version of 'bit' for Vista, as 32-bit and 64-bit editions come on different DVDs

Here's how to do a clean install of Vista using a DVD of Vista from Microsoft:

"How to do a clean install and configure with a full Version of Vista '

    http://www.Vistax64.com/tutorials/117366-clean-install-full-version-Vista.html

And once the operating system is installed, go to your computer manufacturer's website and get the latest drivers for your particular model or laptop computer.

And phone Activation may be necessary when you use the above installation method.

  • The original OEM product key allows you to move from a 32-bit Vista Ultimate installation to a Vista Ultimate 64-bit installation.

The product key OEM genuine original of my software to 32-bit with service pack 1 (that I bought and installed on my computer) allows to switch from a 32-bit Vista Ultimate installation to a 64-bit Vista Ultimate installation on the same computer without changing the motherboard?

I would use a replacement disc from Microsoft 64-bit including Service Pack 2 as complete a reinstall? Microsoft 64-bit replacement drive has been obtained from Microsoft with the 32-bit version (which is currently installed) after some intractable problems found by the Microsoft Tech support in my OEM 32-bit software with service pack 1.

I'll be able to do an online activation?

    Thank you.

    Hello

You should check with Support to be sure. Normally the 32-bit and 64-bit key can
be used on the same system. Of course, you need to install the 64 who will wipe away
the installation of 32-bit. The key you should however work to check better
with that which supplied the disc. The manufacturer of your system can also provide input.

    I hope this helps.

  • Hey, I have a VHD file on my D drive which takes place 188Gbs. What will happen if I removed it?

All of a sudden, I get a notification that there is little or no space on my hard drive (D) and I have nothing installed on this computer in a very long time.  Under the image of the file system is where is this VHD file and it is 188Gbs.  Someone told me exactly what it is (technically), but I don't really understand.  They also said that it is an outrageous amount of space for a virtual hard disk to meet.  Can I delete it?

Drive hard virtual is a virtual disk and is normally generated by a program like Virtual PC virtualization, VMWare etc. They allow you another PC as a program on your primary PC.

When a virtual PC is set up you need to create a single file that contains all the files on a PC. However, even if you can drive to be similar in size to a real PC for more real space is much smaller. Normally, when you set up a virtual drive you can set at 100 GB, but you normally specify the actual file to only be as big as the information contained in this.

Regarding can remove you, if you have no idea where it came from probably yes. However to be sure, it is possible to mount a virtual hard disk as if it were another drive in your computer. In this way, you can check and see what are the contents.

Right-click on computer and select manage.

Click on disk management and wait for the load utility.

After that that it has loaded right click on disk management and Attach VHD. Navigate to the location of the file and select it.

Now, in computer, you must have an additional drive which is the VHD file. Navigate to the bottom and see if you can work it out where it came from.

Following the same sequence, you can also create a VHD, the default values that are fixed size and all the free space on the disk, sounds a bit like what you have.
