  Possibly, you have made changes to your 'by default develop settings'.   I have a new computer with Vista and got close to loading Microsoft Sidewinder FORCE Feedback 2 disc to use with Microsoft Flight Simulator X and have problems loading.

  I expect to see a message from LOADING software will then ask to connect the gamepad and proceed to step 2, which is testing.

  It is a Dazzle 80 to convert analog video to digital.

  You can use the XP mode if you have the professional or Enterprise version of Windows 7 Ultimate.  If you do not have one of these versions, you can use the Anytime Upgrade, and then XP Mode is free.  It works as a task under Windows 7, starts in 15 to 30 seconds, does not require a reboot and works very well.  The graphics are a little limited, but if you enlarge the window XP Mode, you can get a color to 16 bit 1360 x 760 which is not bad for something other than fast action games.

The reader does not automatically add a file that you play from removable media, such as a CD or DVD.

  Since you aren't able to add songs to the library, you can try the following and see if they help.
