I have Photoshop CS5.1 on a Mac OSX 10.8.5 and me when I opened my Photoshop I get a transparent canvas.  I get all my bars and menus section of layers, but I can't get my canvas to show.

I can't do the drawing area appears.

I'm still a beginner with Photoshop man Yes, sure would appreciate the help!

OK, it works. Use a browser to access the forums working over e-mail. Now to your problem.

Photoshop does not automatically open with a canvas. You must create a new file - menu file > new, or open an existing file - file > open

You are in the mode where the file open in separate windows. If you go in the menu window and all the way down, check Framework Application and you'll get a gray background, as Windows users. Cardboard, canvas is the term. You always create or open files, but they will initially be in the tabs, not windows.

Furthermore, there is the canvas that is the white preferred area you see in a new file, and surrounding it is the gray 'card '. The white canvas is where you paint or add layers. The mount table is just a gray box that surrounds the drawing area in the document window. Can't do much with it, but just know that they are two different things.

So in this shot, you can see my open the file in a window of 'Document '. "Canvas" is hidden behind the image, and the image around is the "editing table.
