Can I switch to 4 GB of ram if I have Vista 32 bit?
I have a Gateway FX - 541S with 3072 MB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM and a processor Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 (2.40 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB, 8 MG cache) and I want to improve my memory up to 8 GB. I am running VISTA Home Premium 32 - bit OS. I have to upgrade to VISTA 64 bit or WINDOWS 7 to access this additional memory?
By design, all 32-bit versions of Windows is limited to 4 GB of RAM; This 4 GB that you will see only about 2.75 GB to 3.50 GB usable RAM, the remaining RAM is reserved by the hardware you have installed. So, to use more than 4 GB of RAM, you will need to upgrade to a 64 bit version of Windows Vista.
According to the specifications below page, your system is expandable up to 8 GB of RAM, because it has 4 DIMM DDR2 slots.

I have Vista 32 bit. I need Vista 64-bit.
My current OS is Vista Home Premium 32-bit. In order to use my new video card I need the 64-bit version. I have the original disc and the (Dell) product key, but the site where you can order the DVD of the 64-bit version does not accept my product key.
http://www.Microsoft.com/windowsvista/1033/ordermedia/default.mspx
Apart from this issue, could someone give me instructions on how to make this change, please. Thank you.
Congrats on the upgrade to Windows Vista. Ships of packaging at retail product on DVD with 32-bit edition software, but two forms of communication are available to meet your specific needs:
If you have read the information above it on this site Web, the offer is for a license of Vista at RETAIL .
Your Dell preinstalled vista is an OEM license and is NOT eligible for this offer.
If you want 64-bit Vista, you will need to buy it.
32bnit to 64 bits is made by doing a clean install with a FULL 64 bit DVD/license vista.
See you soon.

As in the topic - hp dv5-1060ew, Win7 64 bit installed, I already own SODIMM 4 GB memory kit KHX6400S2ULK2 / 4G, I hoped to install. There are chances that it will work? As for now, when I use it - the computer is not running the system. If I would like to extend my memory, what would be the best option for me, since I could understand - something to do.
Thank in advance for any help.
Hello:
I think that memory is too fancy for your PC. Have you checked each module one at a time? Perhaps one is bad.
If you did, and the PC does not work, then it is not compatible with your laptop.
I'd go with standard portable memory like this.

How can I load my vista e-mail folders in an application compatible with Windows 7 or XP
My motherboard on my HP Pavilion laptop is dead and he was running Vista 64 - bit OS. I'm trying to recover my email so I can read in a mailer with the files so I can just point and click to see them. I was able to recover the contents of the hard drive and copy them to my office. Unfortunately, I don't have a .csv file recent backup of email, as well as the Local folder, there is the Windows Mail data. I tried to import them in Office 2007, but of course, Outlook uses a PST file and will not allow these files to be dragged into the Inbox. My desktop computer runs on XP Home and so I tried to load in Outlook Express. No luck. I tried dragging the files in Mozilla Thunderbird Email, with unsuccessful results. If only I had a good index of folders backup my problem would be solved. Is there anyway I can import or move these folders in an e-mail application that actually do it, for now my only option is to open the individual txt email files to display. I was not able to find a compatible third-party application that can move or import these files for me. Any help would be appreciated.
There are two ways to bring them into OE. You create a new folder in OE and open it so that it displays a list of empty message. In Windows Explorer, open the folder under local folders and then proceed to one of the subdirectories. Then highlight all eml files in the directory and make sure that you have selected the eml files. Then let them slide over the emptiness of messageliste OE and drop and they get incorporated into the file, as long as they are only eml files (try it with a first and so you get the idea of how it works).
You can then do this for each folder. Or you can get my program OEX (www.oehelp.com/OEX/) and authorizes the import into OE or WinMail in Vista from a directory of eml files.

I was already running 32 bit Vista Home Basic and I've now changed to 64-bit Home Premium and for some reason that I have more my 1680 x 1050 Native resolution monitors in the list of available resolutions.
The closest available resolutions are 1600 x 900 and 1600 x 1024.
Obviously it's not a lot of good because anything other than of the native looks horrible!
I have the option in the NVidia Control Panel to create custom resolutions, which do not seem to work in windows is. I added 1680 x 1050 and set it as my resolution. Now the problem I have is that the games aren't my resolution custom in their choice of resolutions in the graphics options, so I can't play in 1680 x 1050 the closest choice is the resolutions that I mentioned earlier, which means that the quality of the image in the games is horrible!
I do not understand why I now have a problem when 32-bit Vista everything was fine, it's the same graphics driver as before only the 64-bit version.
Any help is greatly appreciated!
No problem.
However, this problem is solved now fortunately. I did some research on Google more and came across this article about Windows 7 users with simillar problems with drivers of the generic Non - PNP monitor and lack of resolutions:
http://www.TomsHardware.com/Forum/652-63-window-monitor-1680x1050-1920x1080-resolution-here
The advice it worked a treat, I downloaded PowerStrip (http://downloads.guru3d.com/PowerStrip-3.75-download-169.html#download ),
I uninstalled all drivers GPU rebooted my computer, and then use Powerstrip I created my own .inf driver using the correct resolution of 1680 x 1050 Max, registered the and that installed my driver of monitors.
Reinstalled my drivers, GPU, rebooted and it instantly recognized my Native 1680 x 1050 and set it to one at the start. And when I run all the games, the resolution is in the list!
I am so happy.

I have Vista 32 bit and would switch to the 64-bit... possible?
I would rather buy a brand new operating system so I would like to upgrade to 64 - bit, because the MOBO, I put in is capable of up to 16 MB of RAM. But recommend them not more than 3 GB for a 32 bit OS. Can I upgrade my OS without much hassle or $$$. Thanks in advance KM
Hello
There is no way to upgrade from 32 bit to 64 bit.
You need a full 64-bit license and you must do a clean install.
And Microsoft sells more Vista; they are now selling Windows 7, which will soon be replaced by Windows 8.
See you soon.
