  I searched this forum for a solution and the best I found is similar, but not exact problems. To make it easier to understand, here is what I have and what I've done so far:

  The computer is a Dell Dimension 9100 w / Windows XP Home Edition. I have 'no' has a PS/2 port. The keyboard and mouse are USB. There 'no' to a floppy drive, only a 80 GB HD, CD ROM & CD Burner. I wanted to wipe the drive and reinstall Windows XP Home Edition. I did the natural thing and put on the Windows CD that gave a choice of reinstalling Windows, but when I clicked it, the message said that "there is a newer version of Windows XP on the computer". The continue button is grayed out. After much frustration, I decided to manully wipe the drive, so I used Active Boot erase disc. Now when I boot from the CD ROM with the CD of Windows XP in there, load files and it gets to the screen that says "press enter = continue R = repair, & F3 = exit". Straight? No, at this time there the keyboard commands do not work so you can't do anything. Remember, "no" PS2 port so I can not put a real keyboard inside. "" Thanks Dell! I tried this sequence with the keyboard plugged into every USB port on the PC. No luck with any of them. Does the Dell hell? Can someone help me get back Windows on the stupid computer?
