I just got a phone call from a guy who said he was a member of the tech teaml windows

I just got a phone call from a guy who told me he was technical team of windows and someone had attempted to enter into my calculation, I told her that I don't have a computer, then he asked if I had a laptop that I don't have so I told him that. I asked how he had got hold of my phone number and he said they had the info. I wanted to take this more then I asked what was wrong and he said that if I turned on my computer that he would go through it with me. I didn't believe him, but what to do? Needless to say that I hung up on him, but as I am not very computer savvy so I'm a little worried. Can anyone help please. Thank you

It is a SCAM, you did the right thing hang up on him. He just wanted your information so he could use it for illegal purposes.

Short answer: Yes. It is a scam. Not much interest to report, as MS are well aware of this problem, but there is little they can do about it since then (I guess) most of the calls are created outside the United States

Unless you have a pre-paid with Microsoft, support contract they (Microsoft) will never contact you for problems on your PC.

You did the right thing by hanging up on them. If that happens again, just ignore them.

This is a complete scam and one that has become very common these days. . Don't think anything such a caller said, do nothing that he tells you to do and hang up on him immediately.

At let them into your computer? If you did you are at serious risk for what they could have done it (installed spyware? Identity theft? Steal the passwords?), and I highly recommend that you do the two following:

    1 reinstall Windows properly

    2. change all your passwords, especially those of the financial institutions and online stores.

I just got a phone call from a man claiming to be a tech of windows. He told me that he had to call me because of the high number of junk that has been downloaded and my windows updates. Is this for real?

    Hello Angiee57,

As usual, this is another scam.

Unless you have a support contract prepaid or you raise a support ticket with Microsoft, no Microsoft will call you about the problems with your PC.

All these crooks are trying to do is access your PC so they can steal your personal data, which is bank details etc. Under no circumstances should allow you remote access to your PC.

Hi all, I got a phone call from a guy yesterday saying my computer downloaded currupt and Marie-Claire files and had asked, on behalf of microsoft, to contact me this was a business partner?, it was the Indian accent but did not speak good enough English if you listened well, at this point, he had my full attention that my computer was slow in the months , I explained that I had someone find and remove programs for me to speed it up, but it was persistent in getting me in front of the computer. He said he could help me and show me the problems? I asked name hes, he gave and he even new my name and what platform I was using. I don't remember the name of the company, that he said, that he was but the phone number was 0206 something something? After reading this other storys hoax here had me calm worried, he explained that the problem needs to be fixed and I must say after testing to see if he was legitimate, he even said that he would put the supervisor on... He explained to me the same thing and although I challenged somemore on what it could be anyone he said sure, but were not trying to make that you are something weird to us, cannot remember everything exactly, but I said ill insatall a virus program myself, who while he became upset, saying big companys will charge you loads just go on your computer so that I can that I you Guide in that says im? Ultimately, and after reading the other storys peoples about these scams and calls after that I hung up on him which im happy I did it, he then phones me back saying today the problem has not been corrected, in an application for Mr. family name once again on your computer. • Call phone-received a phone call from a technician who said my system was sending error reports

Today, I received a phone call from an Indian man who claims to be a technician. He said that my laptop has been sending error reports for the last 3 months. I had to call b - s because I had just my cell phone last month and it worked perfectly fine. He said that he was with universal Tech Support and when I asked him if he works with Microsoft somehow he said that his company works with Microsoft. I was really curious so I let the call and he told me to go to ammyy.com and run the software. I did and I let him have some light control on my laptop and I noticed that it wasn't really something that just move the mouse around the screen and he was not clicking on anything. He then said that my uTorrent was the question and I still called b - s. I installed it there, but I still have to download torrents. He said that my laptop has 4000 + error messages and they have been displayed on my screen. He decided to transfer me to his manager and that's when I hung up and restarted my laptop and run a full scan once more. What caught my attention, he was actually the registration # from my laptop and he repeated to me. The first time, they called the caller ID said "unknown name, unknown number." The second time they called a number actually popped up. (516-515-7279), I decided to give the number a call, and I didn't get any answer. I searched all over the internet and Ammyy scams pop up but all scammers are pretending be Microsoft certified technicians and I heard again scammers claim that they work with universal Tech Support. Now, I'm very curious to know whether or not Microsoft is doing a collaboration with this company.

    Hello NahDeeUhh,

    That's all just a scam

Your PC regularly send error reports to Microsoft. This helps Microsoft determine what issues affect most users. During the transfer of these technical error reports information are transferred between your computer and the Microsoft server. NO personal data are transferred, so ask yourself "How did get my information?

Any company (or individual) can get a database of potential customers, providing that they are willing to pay for this information. It may just be a voters list that could include your address and telephone number. Whatever list it's this list gives this company/individual details that they need to cold call you.

Unless you have a contract to support prepaid with Microsoft, then Microsoft 'never' will call you about a problem with your machine. Yes there are Microsoft Certified Software engineers out there, but they do not work to make them work for companies that are independent of Microsoft.

If you receive a similar appeal to new everything simply replace the telephone receiver and have no more to do with the appellant. Under no circumstances should allow you remote access to your PC. This is fatal. All they are after is your personal data such as password, coordinated and banking passwords etc.

Well long story short, I didn't know it was legitimate... microsoft make repairs online, right? Surely, a bum like me gets no special treatment?... It was therefore legitimate, or was this something from the other world?

    Definitely ~ ~ ~ a VERY BIG SCAM!

What about Microsoft - they never will contact you in this way!

If you are ILA and captured by chance this guy phone #.

Contact your local PD to file a complaint and to make them aware

  • I just got a phone call from someone at delta tech solutons who said that they had received notice of the problems with my computer.

Then, they wanted to connect via citrix to talk to one of their representatives of tech.  Who are they and what do have to do with "windows".  the telephone number was listed as out of area 92423

It's a scam that has worked for a long time, all over the world. They are after your personal information.

The caller usually has a thick accent of BONE here in Oz.
You can play games with them and ask them the error code or the message for the 'problem '.
Or tell them that your line is exploited and they have already been reported to the authorities and if they ring back they will be made a mega ultrasonic sound blast def :).

Yes, it is a complete and utter scam.  Assuming that you don't give them access to your computer, you're probably pretty course.  They are the so-called "canvassing" - selection of lists of random phone numbers and try to sell services and/or access to your computer.  You did the right thing, hang up on them.

    Hello

    SCAM

    Read this information from Microsoft:

    http://www.Microsoft.com/security/online-privacy/msName.aspx

Microsoft has none of the unsolicited telephone calls to help you fix your computer

In this type of scam cybercriminals are calling you and claim to be of Support technique Microsoft. They offer help with your computer problems. Once scammers have earned your trust, they try to steal and damage your computer with malicious software, including viruses and spyware.

Although the law enforcement can trace phone numbers, often authors use pay telephones, disposable cell phones or stolen cellular phone numbers. Better avoid fooling themselves rather than try to repair the damage afterwards.

Treat all unsolicited sceptically telephone calls. Don't provide personal information.

If you receive an unsolicited call from someone who claims to be from Technical Support Microsoft, hang up. We do not have such calls.

If you think you might be a victim of fraud, you can report it. For more information, see: what to do if you think you have been scammed.

I got a phone call from someone who said they were from microsoft and my computer was in danger, unless I paid 130 pounds for a new warranty, is it a scam?

    Hi Debra,

It's a SCAM! Microsoft does not make that neither have they partners that do and don't they hire contractors or individuals or even to find volunteers to do. There are probably thousands of these companies out there do every day - we get two or three posts like this (or more) each day ask about it. You are lucky who have recognized the scam enough not to be sucked in and eventually identify theft, infections, hacking your computer, convince you to buy software or services you either did not need or that do not really exist at all and all sorts of nefarious stuff. You'd be surprised how much contact us AFTER THAT that they realized they had been duped asking what to do. Don't waste time talking to these people, not give them any personal information it is, don't be fooled by what they can get allows you to see on the computer - in fact, not do anything they suggest on your computer or even to visit Web sites they recommend and for the love of God don't give them access to your computer.

Microsoft knows this is happening, but with these companies popping up like dandelions, or closing and changing names when discovered and operating mainly from abroad, it would take an army of lawyers to sue each other. They do the best they can, but they are just too many and more added every day. People need to pay attention to these things. They occur not only by telephone, but also by e-mail, instant messaging, mail and all the ways imaginable. Forget not that Microsoft doesn't this and hang up or remove the emails or messages or mail from someone claiming that they do because they know the information on your computer or that you want to get information from you to confirm your account so that it will not be closed and asking you your name of user and password and all sorts of other personal information. Microsoft DO NOT!

See below for additional information on this topic and what to do and how Microsoft works:

    http://www.Microsoft.com/security/online-privacy/msName.aspx

    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/securitytipstalk/archive/2010/03/09/Don-t-fall-for-phony-phone-tech-support.aspx

I'm glad you don't get captured by these crooks and save yourself a big headache. Continue to use the same caution and you should do fine.

    Good luck and best wishes!

  • I just got a phone call (no number came as international) to say that Microsoft

I just got a phone call (no number came came as international) claiming to be from Microsoft and Muicrosoft are aware that my PC has programs that can cause my PC unwanted crash. They then asked me to turn on my pc while they could repair. This looks like a scam to me. Has anyone else had this type of call. I asked a lot of questions and the appellant was very vauge but insisting my PC was going to crash. The appellant gave me a number of 1786 6001340 I asked the appellant to put all this information in an e-mail message, which he said he would. We'll see if it happens. I think it is yet another scam that other users take note.

It is a common scam. Do not let them give any info, do not give access to your PC, not give them all the money and do not go to all the websites that they suggest. One moment. See:

    http://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/security/online-privacy/msname.aspx .

Microsoft does ever not requested for calls.

(such persons may use names other than Microsoft as well)

No need to shout (all capital letters.)  Most modern publications using a mixture of standard uppercase and lowercase lettering unless they're trying to focus on something specific just because it is easier to read.

You don't reach Microsoft on this issue.  It's not their problem more someone is trying to rip you off on your money is the people who printed his problem or someone trying to rip you off your car comes to the car manufacturer.  You communicate with the authorities (who will probably tell you that they can do anything with what you little information.)

As long as you don't give them access to your computer, you're probably fine.

If you gave any personal information or leave them on your computer - to worry.
