I'm looking for here (or get) help directed to the right forum regarding an error message I got when trying to open a PDF file. The error message indicates "this file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program or, if such is already installed, create an association in the default programs control panel. "To be quite honest, I don't have the slightest idea as to what to do with respect to this message and I need some advice ASAP. I recently installed sp3 on my computor he had sp2 now when I access panel, I can't run any programs like display or add or remove programs or internet con. I tried the system restore but it will not go forward or backward I always got the error this file \WIndows\system32\rundll32.exe'. is not on the hard drive that I can reistall sp 2 with sp3 hope somone can help thanks lindell wood
If you have installed SP3 and now the file is missing, the opinion of the Support Engineer Microsoft won't help you unless you have a genuine XP installation CD also is Service Pack 3.
That's extremely unlikely, unless you did it yourself and some people have never seen a real installation of XP bootable CD in their life then, how is this will help... But, this is a link to a Microsoft KB article.
When you try to open a control panel applet, you see a message like this:
Control Panel
Windows cannot find 'C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe '. Make sure you typed the name correctly and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click search. If the file is actually missing, it was probably quarantined (actually deleted) programmatically your antivirus or anti-malware not specified that you use.
You might want to reconsider anything not stated antivirus or antimalware you programs use and whether or not they are effective to protect your system.
You can look in the c:\windows\system32 folder and see if the file is actually missing or not, but you should replace it somehow.
I downloaded a copy of XP Pro SP3 file you need on my SkyDrive (everyone has a SkyDrive for file sharing).
You can download it and when you do, place a copy of the file in these two folders (assuming that Windows is installed on your C drive):
c:\Windows\System32
c:\Windows\System32\dllcache (this is where XP keeps backups of important files). Here is the link to my SkyDrive and you can get the file you need here:
http://CID-6a7e789cab1d6f39.SkyDrive.live.com/redir.aspx?RESID=6A7E789CAB1D6F39! 311When you see the files available for download, you can not see the file extension (.exe, .dll, .cpl, .sys, .zip, etc.), but when download you them they will have the right extension.
When you download the file (especially if you use Internet Explorer), when you get a chance to save the file, your browser is unable to save the file with an extension (by example, .exe, .dll, .cpl, .sys, .zip, etc) then you will need to manually add the extension appropriate to the file when you download the file before you save it.
You can download the file without the extension, and then rename the file to add the appropriate extension. You do not want to use a file called rundll32 when the name of the file should really be called rundll32.exe (if the downloaded file has no extension, you will need to change the name of the file to add the appropriate extension to make it work.
You then put the downloaded files in the correct folders on your system.
That may not solve all your problems, but at least you will be spending this part and we can then fix the rest.

File corrupted on the restore disc.
My restore disk has a corrupted file. The file is ISSetup.dll. It is Macrovision and version 12.0.0.58851. I don't particularly want to buy a new set of disks, if anyone has this version of the file that they could email me? It is of my HP Pavilion Slimline S3431.uk. The exact location of the file is D:\hp\apps\APP11568\src.
Thanks for your help.
Chris
I hope that you don't have to pay for the record
Since that she may not have properly burn the disc
correctly
but the creation of restore disks is a time
burning and good for making copies
and even if isn't properly without you probably burn
know that the rest is bad too
but once you get the restore disc sent to
make you a copy for insurance
and you mine to give a scenario
My cat scratched the OS disk and
to reinstall was unnecessary and
has no luck with it, but now with these
Windows disk is protected against copying I doubt
You can make a backup copy
but once you've made a copy of the restore disk
and place your original in a course

Original title: associate together
Hi all
Whenever I click on an icon, it comes up with an error message saying "this file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an associatiob in the control panel of binding together"Corsica, I had a quick glance in the control panel and there is no. Can someone please?
Hi, blixy16.
First of all, I suggest that ensure you that your computer is virus-free. You can start with themalicious software removal tool. Additional suggestions are available in the forum topic Microsoft Answers "How to get rid of malware .
As a result, to determine if the problem you are experiencing is caused by one or more system files that are used by Windows, run the System File Checker tool. The System File Checker tool analyzes the system files and replaces incorrect versions of system files by using the correct versions.
To run the System File Checker tool, follow these steps:
- Click Start and type cmd in the box start the search.
- Right click on cmd in the list programs, and then click Run as administrator.
- If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type your password or click on continue
- At the command prompt, type the following line and press ENTER:
sfc/scannow (note the space before the backslash) - When the analysis is complete, test to see if the problem you are experiencing is resolved.
If you still have problems, fixes for Windows Vista file association of Microsoft MVP Ramesh Srinivasan can be useful.

No detail, lack just the key needed to install the upgrade.
Hi Ytsircfay,
Unfortunetly Microsoft cannot generate new without the old keys product keys. I look on the machine, if it's OEM and see if there is a key on it. If this isn't the case, then you will need to buy new software with a key.
I hope this helps! Shawn - Support Engineer - MCP, MCDST
