I'm trying to recover my documents on a hard drive that has a damaged copy of windows on it.

I'm trying to recover the files on the computer of a friend who crashed some time ago. I can't get windows XP to boot at all, even in safe mode.

When I set the old hard drive to another computer and try to access the folder my documents, it requires user name and password. I enter it and get a permission denied message. How can I access this data?

Can I reinstall windows without wiping the hard drive and then try to take ownership of files? I'm so confused please help someone!

You don't need to reinstall Windows.  Just take possession of the documents folder. Boulder computer Maven

I installed the update of Adobe Acrobat reader on my computer a few weeks ago. I couldn't print my documents, new or old. I tried to uninstall the program and re-install and that has not worked. I went to the HP website and from the down loaded the latest printer drivers, and that did not work. I went to tools for the production printing package that reads 'Add' tab. I clicked Add and got a (1-800-915-9430) number to call if I want to pay other services that offer Adobe. I called the number in the hope of getting my answers to the question and that has not worked. I've gotten has been a long wait (1 h) for a person to respond to the call and when they meet a poor service. I went to different forums looking for answers and found my question but not response. The messages I get are: "the document could not be printed" and "there is no page selected. Is there a solution to this problem? The version of window is Win7.

  • I tried a number of times to upgrade to windows 10. I get c1900101 - 4000D as a mistake. Once, my entire hard drive crashed and I had to reinstall Windows 7.

I tried a number of times to upgrade to windows 10. I get c1900101 - 4000D as a mistake. Once, my entire hard drive crashed and I had to reinstall Windows 7. I am also having a problem installing Adobe Flash player. It is said that API-MS-Win-Core-Registery-l1-1-0.dll is missing but I don't know what it is. Any suggestions?

"Configuration settings" is the final phase and fault codes look like c1900101 x400xx. The most common failure here is 40017, which means we could not start. Since this is the first time start us Windows 10 with all the drivers in place, once again, drivers are usually the cause of the accident. These issues tend to be less transient than the 30018 s, then a second test is less likely to solve the problem. Yet, it never hurts to try.

    Try to upgrade manually:

    Task of pre-required

When you make significant changes to your computer for example updated operating system, you must always back up. See the links to resources on the backup by clicking the link for each version of Windows you are using: Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8/8.1

    then

    then

    • Turn off (preferably uninstall) your Antivirus utility before you perform the upgrade.
    • Reboot several times, and then try again.
    • Disable the general USB peripherals (for example - smart card reader).
    • If you are using a SCSI drive, make sure you have the drivers available for your storage on a thumdrive device and it is connected. During the installation of Windows 10, click on the advanced custom Option and use the command load driver to load the driver for the SCSI drive. If this does not work and the installer still fails, consider switching to an IDE based hard drive.
    • Perform a clean boot, restart, and then try again.
    • If you upgrade to the. ISO file, disconnect from the Internet during the installation, if you are connected in LAN (Ethernet) or wireless, disable both, then try to install.
    • If you are updated through Windows Update, when download reaches 100% disconnect from the LAN (Ethernet) Internet or Wi - Fi, then proceed with the installation.
    • If this does not work, try using the. ISO file to upgrade if possible.
    • If you are connected to a domain, go to a local account.
    • If you have an external equipment, attached to the machine, unplug them (example, game controllers, USB sticks, external hard drive, printers, peripherals not essential).

If the problem persists, try the upgrade manually, but choose the option to keep personal files only, you will have to reinstall applications.

When you add items to a project can then remove the clips?  I'm trying to free up space on my hard drive. Thank you.

Not while you're still editing the project.  When you have completed the project and shared it and are sure that you do not want to do any editing more far, you can delete the whole project.

If you do a significant amount of iMovie editing you really need to put your libray (ies) on a large external hard drive.  Another thing you can do is to divide your work between different libraries and move those that are not currently on a removable drive.

Original title: computer MOM will not start and I need to recover the data on the hard drive.

It's an old computer and I do not know what version of Windows it was running.  I guess I need a bootdisk of exploitation, but where can I download that?  Or would it be easier to pull and make a secondary drive in my computer that I just replaced?  It works under Windows XP.

    Hello

If the old system does not start could be the hard drive. Put the hard drive in another computer as a 2nd drive and then access the files. If you use a computer XP, Vista or Windows 7, you should be able to access the files, unless the drive has failed.

You can save your files by putting the drive in another computer as a 2nd drive (better) or a USB external drive case and then save up to removable media such as CD, DVD or other USB drives. Of course a real store of the computer or the manufacturer of your system can help to recover the files.

Or you can use a boot Ubuntu CD to back up data. (This will not work if the hard disk is defective or other issues preventing the system from booting from the CD/DVD drive.)

  • Trying to transfer files from an internal hard drive outside under XP

I tried to transfer files and settings from hard drive to external hard drive.  The transfer seems to take place but the hard drive is always too full.  Please notify.

Your question is vague, as others have mentioned.

If you try to transfer a very large file (over 4 GB) and receive a message that there are not enough space on the external hard drive even if the external hard drive seems to have a lot of room, the reason is probably that your external drive is formatted using the FAT32 file system.  If you need help with this problem, please specify your original question.  Be sure to include the exact text of any error message, without paraphrasing.

Do NOT format your external drive if there is already data on this topic.

I tried the clean boot and now the hard drive works simply and screen went black. The mouse still moves around the screen without any outher work keys? That is what it is?

    Hello

You will need to reverse the clean boot, as it is either incidental compared to
the real cause of the problem. What, where you try to fix initially using the cleanboot?

You can access Mode safe? Repeatedly press F8 as you start? If so you can try the configuration - control panel
The Device Manager - graphics card - Double click on - driver tab - click the driver UPDATE - then
Right click on the device and UNINSTALL - REBOOT.

Another method to try to get to the desktop (try in normal Windows Mode without failure) is
CTRL + ALT + DEL and the processes tab find EXPLORER.exe and COMPLETE the PROCESS on this subject - and then
on the Applications tab - lower right - new task - type in EXPLORER.exe. Safe mode is reached
by tapping F8 as you start several times.

  • trying to find compatible 1 TB external hard drive 2 TB capatible for backup of Lenovo T510

I'm trying to understand what high speed 1 or 2 TB capatible external hard drive that I could buy - and if I can 'use' a USB 3 or if I'm stuck with USB 2.  Have you looked at LaCie and Verbatim discs... suggestions appreciated... I do not know what a PCIE card, etc. is...

The Rosewill and others like it, are empty envelopes.  You install a HD 3.5 "SATA inside.  There are other - smaller - units that can use a 2.5 drive "a laptop.  These enclosures support different ways to connect to a laptop (or desktop): USB 2, 3 USB, eSATA, depending on the chosen box.  The boxes for disks 3.5 "have generally also a brick or"wall-wart"power supply.  2.5 boxes "sometimes do and sometimes are powered via the USB port.

There are also many complete devices that provide an enclosure with a drive that is already installed.  They tend to be "prettier" and well integrated.  Also usually more expensive than a speaker + HD purchased separately (this varies) and in my experience, tend to run hot.

You may prefer the comfort of a one-piece integrated solution, but I like the flexibility of an envelope + HD with my choice.

[edit] The units come often (always?) with the included HD already formatted.  A speaker + HD provided by the user will require drive initializing and formatting.  A blank disc will at times be initialized in victory disk management by using the USB connection, before we see via the eSATA connection.  I don't know if it's a quirk of my speakers, readers, or Windows.  Just a heads-up.

  • Installation internal SSD drive and storage of documents on external hard drive

    Hello!

I have an older iMac and I want to speed it up by installing a SSD drive.  Currently, my internal hard drive has 2 TB of storage, and I don't want to pay for one SSD of this size.  I consider the use of an external drive for my files and using the SSD internal applications and the operating system.  Can this work?  What is the internal SSD of minimum size I should get, more or less, according to my number of apps?   The documents will open at a decent speed?   It is up to me to use an external hard drive with a Firewire instead of USB connection?  Thank you!

    Hi Dan:

Apps it really depends how much you use and what types of data you want to keep in vs SSD HARD drive.

120-128 GB SSD: USD price: 60-70 price range.

for 250/256 GB SSD: about USD: price range of 80-90

for 500/512 GB SSD: about USD: price range of 130-150

An external 2 TB drive: for laptop (USB bus-powered - usually 2.5 "HDD included): 90 us $, for the largest 3.5" Office style HDD: 90 USD

    For me:

I store all my music on the external network drive (RAID 1 configuration, 2 TB, and 50 percent full this time), all my documents/pictures are still in my 500 GB SSD.

I don't have much video projects on my SSD.

I used about 200 GB in my internal SSD flash drive

Good luck finding your best solution.

    Sam
