• I can't get the XP updates. I need SP3 but need the hotfix for AMD chip which I can't until I have install SP2.

  I am just an ordinary computer user and do not have a great understanding of the technical side of things.

  After a lot of blue screens, I did a fresh install of xp family. I installed avast anti virus and then made sure that windows update was. Then I tried in vain to download SP2, the fix for SP3 and AMD. Without these, it seems, I can't get the needed updates.

  This AMD patch you were talking in your original question? I'm not aware of all the other fixes AMD (but this does not mean there is one, are not my knowledge is not encyclopedic!).

  Windows Update no longer works unless you have installed SP3. SP3 should be able to be installed from the link I provided above, but I would like to uninstall IE8 first and then re-install later.

(I use auto update and I still, but I thought he couldn't quite).  Yet nowhere else.  It's ridiculous!  Windows doesn't have the driver for my camera and knows not where, or even what is the name of the file.  It is a brand new Sony camera.  How can the driver for him be such a mystery?
