    Hi all

I am running Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 3 (build) 2600 and have loads and loads of problems. Windows keeps hung and everything I tried didn't seem to help.
I brought this second hand from a company computer, I used to work and I don't have the original installation cd or rescue disk. I meet a lot of problems and everything takes forever to load and work. I was advised to run maleware, spyware, antivirus and defrag on the computer analyses and I did all that and nothing works. Also, when I tried to run the system restore it wouldn't let me, and when I try to run the scan disk after a reboot it does not work. As a last effort, I tried running SFC and it looked as if it was working, but then it asked me for the initial startup disk, that I don't have. so I tried to cancel it, but now every time that I reboot/restart my computer load SFC and I have to start the entire process. Also, none of my cd drives work. Please help me
Also, I'm now a message that says minimum virtual memory is very low.
I would be very grateful for any help or advice anyone can offer us on these issues. a million thanks in advance.

    Hello

1 how long have you been faced with this problem?
    2. don't you make changes on the computer before this problem?
    3. what exactly happens when you try to run the scan disk or system restore? You receive an error message? If yes then after return the exact error message.

No software XP, Microsoft no longer offers that you will need to make arrangements for windows XP windows installation CD. You can check the question in the clean boot state.

From your computer by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs so that you can determine if a background program is interfering with your game or program. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot".

  • I'm temporarily using a diesel powered computer, running Windows XP Home Edition, Version 2002, Service Pack 3

I temporarily uses a computer filled with diesel fuel, until I can afford to replace it with an updated model. It is using Windows XP Home Edition, Version 2002, Service Pack 3.
The problem is that it's totally out of memory and as far as I know, I deleted everything I can, short of service packs and security features, such as malware and anti virus.
I do a disk Clean up and Defrag on a regular basis, but it shows now that I have zero remaining memory.
Anyone know how I can free up more memory?
    What happens if I delete ServicePack 1 & 2?
What happens if I use the restore disc came with the computer? It will remove everything and I start with a clean slate?
Unfortunately I can't replace this computer for a few months more, what should I do?
    Thank you
    Monica

You run lack of disk space, not memory, if that's your hard drive, you're referring to :-)

If you have the service pack installation files on your PC, you can probably pick up near a GB removing them (most likely you do not have).
You can remove security updates uninstall files and pick up some space here: http://news.cnet.com/8301-13880_3-9862223-68.html
If there are programs that you use rarely or never, you can uninstall them.

If you use the recovery disk, it most probably restore you to the day; No program, no service pack, no update of safety, nada, just WinXP right out of the box. I wouldn't recommend, unless you have nothing better to do with your time than to reinstall all your stuff. And if this isn't in SP3, then you will not be able to download updates of security.

If you have a little cash on hand, you can always get a bigger hard drive and clone this player to the largest (most new hard drives come with software to do). Or if you have geek friends who save ALL their old stuff (like I do), maybe one of them would have a replacement part that they would be willing to give you. Wouldn't hurt to ask :-)

  • The Vista is better than Windows XP Home edition?

    Hello

I installed vista, but is not supported & is unlikely to be the main programs I want to use with it! Is it because Vista is new, or Windows XP Home edition (which he runs under) is a better OS.

I read on the forum that WXP can be used in another partition. This would cause a problem? How would be affected other things like access to internet or e-mail if I used it in a partition?

Need help please, I'm lost and want to know the best thing to do.

    Thank you.

    Hello

Vista should be better than XP, but now many 3rd-party devices and programs are not compatible with Vista and therefore it s advisable to use two BONES; XP and Vista.
You can install the two OS s separately on two partitions.
    This should work.

With regard to the reception of the email: Please check where the e-mails are stored.
Especially as Outlook e-mail applications use a same folder of installation on the partition for saving e-mail. But the path can be changed in the settings somewhere.

A few words about Vista. As you probably n t know the needs of Vista a lot more material resources such as other early BONE. You will need a really fast and high performance for laptop or desktop PC to use all the features of Vista. I'm talking about the Aero glass effects, etc.

  • Not enough memory, but only one partition is almost empty. running Windows XP Home Edition

My computer says there is not enough memory available to perform the printing.  When I tried to defrag, there is not enough memory to perform this function, either.   Several years ago a friend introduced (then new) computer with 2 partitions - C and F drive.  Everything I've done seems to be on the C drive.  Now the C drive = 935 MB free of 19.52 GB of capacity, while F = 56.62 free 56,79 GB GB.  How to release the rest of the disk on drive F?   There are a few things here, and reading of 'aid', it seems that they would be removed if I deleted a partition.   This computer is now my husband, who use it for e-mails, play Spider and a few Google searches.   I'm no computer expert, so I'm hoping for a simple solution.

    Marjorie

Your report reveals a number of issues. Your C partition has only 4% of free disk space. You must have a minimum of 15% but preferably 25% of free disk space.

Normally, the report will contain details of your MFT (Master File Table), but this information is not there. I have not encountered this situation before and at the present time, I do not know its importance. The MFT is a master index of all the files on your computer and their location, which allows the operating system to access all the files needed to perform a given task.

The reference to the DC4.bak and similar files may be indicating a problem with your trash. This is where deleted files are stored temporarily until the user decides to permanently remove the files. The update of Windows XP SP3 is installed? Right click on your my computer icon and select properties to view details. There were three MS updates and you may not have the latest updates.

Your version of AVG is obsolete. You have version 8 and the current version is 10.

You use Outlook Express, and it takes a considerable disk space. You can move the folder to your partition F store. This link explains how:
    http://www.insideoe.com/files/store.htm#movestore

You can increase the free space on the disk by deleting restore points, keeping the last restoration, using disk cleanup. Follow the instructions on how to do it.

Select Start, all programs, accessories, System Tools, cleaning disk to emptying your trash, delete temporary Internet files and other selected options. I recommend also you click Other Options, System Restore and delete all but the last system restore point.

I recommend you download and install cCleaner, which is a best utility disk cleanup, but this would be better done later.

You can create more free space in C by performing the steps suggested below.

The default allocation for the restoration of the system is 12% on your C partition is more generous. I have them would be reduced by 700 MB. Make my computer right click on your icon, and select System Restore. Place the cursor on your C drive select settings but this time find the slider and drag it to the left until it shows 700 MB and output. When you get to the settings screen, click on apply and OK and leave.

A flaw that might be useless which is for temporary internet files, especially if you keep no copies on the disk offline. Setting the default value is 3% of the walk. Depending on your attitude to copies offline, you could bring it to 1% or 2%. In Internet Explorer, select Tools, Internet Options, general, temporary Internet files, settings to make the change. At the same time, look at the number of days, the story stands.

The default allocation for the basket is 10% of the disk. Change to 5%, which should be enough. In Windows Explorer hover over your Recycle Bin, right click and select Properties, Global and move the slider from 10% to 5%. However, try to let you become so complete that if it is complete and you delete a file by mistake it will bypass the Recycle Bin and have gone forever.

When you have completed the above, restart your computer and display a new report Disk Defragmenter as well as answers to the different questions, I asked.

    Karthikeyan devalla.

    Karthikeyan Devalla,
Here are the instructions to remove some of the restore points using disk cleanup.  Your system is configured to record everything automatically on your computer at periodic points so if you need to restore your system files will be there.  But sometimes, you get more restore points that you want or need and he can eat a lot of disk space.  Here's how to control this.

You can use Disk Cleanup to remove points of restoration and the free space on the hard disk on your computer.

Disk removes the cleanup all but the last restore point on your computer. In some editions of Windows Vista, restore points can include previous versions of files. Previous versions are also deleted.

    1. open Disk Cleanup by clicking the Start button, tap all programs, accessories, click System Tools, and then click Disk Cleanup.

    2. in the Disk Cleanup Options dialog box, click files from all users on this computer.  If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

    3. If prompted, select the drive you want to clean, and then click OK.

    4. click the other Options tab.

    5. under System Restore and shadow copies, click Clean up, and then, in the confirmation dialog box, click on delete.

    6. If you want to continue using disk cleanup for other drives on your computer, click the Disk Cleanup tab. To quit Disk Cleanup, click Cancel.
