  • Using WRT54GS as a point with a gateway router

    My family just moved into a new House, and the package Internet for our DSL included installation of a router wireless (non-Linksys) and the (plugged into the DSL modem) Internet gateway down in the basement.  The problem is that the intensity of the signal on the 2nd floor is very low, sometimes non-existent.  Since we have a Linksys WRT54GS router v.2 lying around the previous House, I thought that I would try to put up with our main router, to set up a new network on the 2nd floor by using the ethernet connection.

    But I keep running into trouble.  I have reset the router so that I know how to find all the settings and I can now access the admin wireless page and I managed to change the network name, and also to configure encryption.  That's all before you connect to the Internet, so of course I can only access the admin page and nothing else.

    But once I plug the ethernet cable - which leads directly to the bridge down - router the Linksys router just stopped working and is no longer distributes all packets at all when I check the connection details.  It does not even serve to the top of the admin page, even if my computer indicates a connection.  Reset the cords for connection to a "Limited or no connectivity" error, both with the wireless connection and also a wired connection using a standard ethernet cable to the back of the Linksys router in my computer.  It's as if plug the Linksys router on the Internet (i.e. the other router) it freezes or it confuses.  I can only make it work again by disconnecting the active Internet cable and turn off the router and then turn it back on.

    I tried to change the mode of operation to the router, and I also changed the default address of my other router (192.168.1.1, which otherwise, would share it with the Linksys router) out of the way but none of it works.

    Once again, I can access the admin wireless page and make all kinds of changes to the installation and get it works perfectly - until I plug my other router (i.e., for reference, a TRENDnet TEW-432BRP) Linksys.

    Since all wired computers work fine with the TRENDnet router modem, I am writing to you guys for helping me understand how to configure the Linksys router to work with her too, so I can use wireless on the 2nd floor of this House.

    Of course, if you think this is impossible for some reason, please let me know so that I can live with it and get my life back.

    Unfortunately the rv016 you cannot make static through the vpn tunnel routes as it isn't an ipsec interface in the static routes section of the router.  This is normal, the router will recognize that the default setting of lan in the vpn tunnel.


    You need to business routers to make the static routes through the ipsec tunnel.

    If I understand you correctly, no it should not be a problem at all. Each entry in your crypto ACLs card will create a separate IPSEC security association pair and there is no overlap.

  • SG300-52. Prefer to send traffic to the default gateway rather than static route? Network stops if I disable ICMP redirects.

    I have 4 switches, each act as their own with a 26 subnet mask. They have static routes for every other switch. The firewall has a static route to each switch. If I unplug the LAN of the Firewall interface, traffic stops the flow of the switches. If I block the side LAN firewall, ICMP redirects, traffic stalls outside.

    So if you are connected to this switch, say that you pull an ip address of 192.168.122.20. Your front door is the 192.168.122.62 switch. If you try to access a server 192.168.127.142, the SG300 sends your traffic to 192.168.127.254 to get an ICMP redirect, rather than simply to communicate directly with 192.168.127.50.

    My network 'basic' is 192.168.127.0/24 vlan1 and the firewall is 192.168.127.254

    This is the route of one of my switches table (which has 192.168.122.0/26 and ports run on vlan122)

    I propose ISE to the customer. They want to deploy ISE as point policy and central authentication for users in the branches. I would ask whether this scenario is possible:

    You can use authentication proxy to push the ACL for users on the router. However, ACL based port is your best approach because you can determine the authorization at the port level and if the user moves so no politics.

    I have a problem here with the routing routing in PIX515E version 6.35. I have a few Client PC located in the DMZ of the PIX515E interface, they connect to the PIX using Cisco VPN Client (IPSEC VPN), once these computers can be routed to access servers (static route) located behind internal PIX interfaces. I have a few servers remotely with access to the Internet, the gateway router to connect remotely to PIX Outside (Internet) Interface using IPSEC VPN and then routed inside the Interface (static route).

    After establishing a VPN IPSEC computers Client behind the DMZ interfaces can access servers located behind the internal Interface of a PIX. So do the remote servers. However, the Client computers cannot access remote servers.

    I was wondering if there are any restrictions for the delivery in PIX?

    I'm not to clear on how you route your networks, I personally try to be more specific in what is routed where when the static use of the routes that the large 16s prefixes.

    you have vpn l2l to allow remote access within your acl as crypto 172.16.0.199/32 to your server:
    Access ip 172.16.0.0 Remote_Server list allow 255.255.0.0 host 172.16.0.199

    and also you have cleared nat rule:
    NAT (inside) 0 access-list sheep

    For some reason any Windows Server 2012 machine cannot access my gateway (router). I got a new modem/router ATT (NVG589) so I got rid of my dlink router DGL4500. For some reason my server cannot get an IP from the DHCP on the router (windows is currently giving a private ip address). The dlink gateway is 192.168.0.1, and the new is 192.168.1.254. I have tried to put a static IP address, flush the dns, set it to automatic and searched online, nothing seems to work. When I plug the dlink again, the server is able to get an ip address from it. Am I missing something that I must specially configured in the NVG589? or y at - it something on the server, I need to change?

    I have currently a cable modem and Linksys router Linksys Wireless 'G '. I have my desktop connected via ethernet to the router port, and I use the wireless router for an Acer laptop and a ROKU box, watch NetFlix streaming videos.  As much as I fear, I get an adequate return out of my system.  My ISP is Suddenlink, which provides a "signal of 8.6," by their support.

    My wife was reading that we should have a "N" router for what we do: occasionally buy music that we upload and every night watch a video on the ROKU box.  I use usually just the Acer laptop to surf the web while I watch TV ("for example, sign in to NBC during the Cup playoffs Stanley for ' bonus camera coverage," etc.).

    After watching different Linksys routers in Best Buy today, I'm confused... I think so. The graph on the squares of the E1000, E2000 and E3000 do seem to say that for our needs (music download and watch streaming video), we "need" an E2000 and E3000.  But in my mind, the router doesn't do 'process' signal that comes through the modem and a router more capacity (or faster) would not increase performance. The performance would be limited by what Suddenlink is sending me through the cable modem.  OR - Suddenlink sends me a signal that could be improved - the wireless (laptop and ROKU) and cable (office) - if I would spring for an E2000 and E3000?  In other words, the N Router pourrait to improve performance on my G Router (present).

    I realize, this is a 'verbose issue', but if someone could respond, I would be happy.  Thank you!

    As above, what speed is supplied by your provider.  Most DSL and cable services provide your service via a 10Mbps connection.  In this case, your wireless-G router to the computer/ROKU box is already faster while at 54Mbps, and upgrade to Wireless-N 300 Mbps does not accelerate whats from the internet, which is transferred from one computer to the other.  Basically, your internet traffic is limited by the connection of your provider.

    Hi there, lindsayla18! It is possible that the IP address (192.168.1.1) of the EA3500 may have changed. You try to access the wireless user interface? It is preferable that you access with the cable from the computer to the router.

    Try to get the IP address and the default gateway ('router' for Mac) of the connected computer and use this default gateway to access the user interface.
    Last resort would be to reset and reconfigure the EA3500. You still have to, do it connected to the router.

    Firmware 1.01.36 build 4 The WRT600N is connected to an existing LAN and is really only used as a Wireless N access point. There is nothing plugged into the WAN port; only the LAN port. I have NAT disabled. All traffic from a client connected to the WRT600N wireless going very well for the gateway and the Internet router. The customer experience is very good. However, there are a few minor issues as follows.

    1] Setup > Advanced Routing tab has only the following options; to do this, * not * have a picker 'Mode '. NAT, static routing and dynamic routing (RIP).    IS this NORMAL, OR should HAVE a MODE (e.g. switch) AS REFERRED to IN THE HELP FILES?

    [2] even if a connection wireless or wired to the WRT600N works very well, the WRT600N himself is unable to connect to the internet. It cannot connect to NTP to set the time and I can't ping past the gateway router using the ping of the WRT600N diagnostic utility.     Topic 1. Linksys, used to have a mode option to switch between the modes 'Bridge' and 'router '. The latest routers call it now better NAT power. Gateway mode means THAT NAT is enabled. Router mode means THAT NAT is disabled. The help files are probably a little bit over. But the option is still the same.

    Re 2. It's normal if you use it as only access point (i.e. do not use the WAN port). The router always takes into account that the internet connection via the WAN port, i.e. it will always use the default gateway on the WAN port. If nothing is connected to the WAN port on the router itself has no default gateway and therefore has no access to the internet. Generally, you are not able to establish the default route in either advanced routing page. It is a known limit of these routers if you do not use as a router.
