I want to replace the airport extreme with my institution

I have an at & t router Arris and I would like to replace it with extreme from apple, but I can't find the cable in the apple device output, what do I do?

I think you will find that the AT & T device is a modem/router and the extreme is only a router. So that won't work.

  • Replace 2004 Airport Extreme with more later?

WE have an iMac 2009 running Snow Leopard and a MacBook Pro in late 2011, with the help of an old 2004 Airport Extreme Base Station. The second works very well, but I just discovered it's crimping our internet speeds considerably from that proposed Comcast (tested with ethernet this morning). I know that the new Airport Extreme WORK with our computers, but it will increase our speed, even though computers support not the fastest new PHY mode? I would not upgrade the router only to learn that we do not earn a lot (we can't get much more with the current router 17mbps, but by ethernet, we got 57mbps this morning).

    Thank you

    Owen

So, if you have connected an Ethernet cable from your Mac to the port on the AirPort Extreme Ethernet older you 57 Mbps... or did you connect your Mac directly to your modem using Ethernet and pick up the 57 Mbit/s in this way?

When you have measured 17 Mbps on the wireless connection... it was with the computer about 6-7 feet (or about 2 meters) from the airport with direct line of sight between the computer and the router AirPort?

How many other wireless devices are also involved at the time?  To get a decent wireless speed reading, you want to try to restrict things to a single computer and the router from the airport when you run the speed control.

Then add more wireless devices and run the speed check again to see how the "charge" on the wireless network speed is affected.

  • The Airport Extreme with Time Machine and HD 1 t

I have an Airport Extreme with built-in hard drive of 1 t. My iMac has a 1 t hard drive too. Time Machine has successfully supported the HD integrated for a few years now, but he can't. The message said: he needs 2.7 T. Why would it need to back up a hard drive of 1 t?

I have a few other connected external drives but I made sure to remove them from the Time Machine backup list, so everything there should be backup is the HD 1 t, which still has unused space on it. Anyone have any ideas?

I have a few other connected external drives but I made sure to remove them from the Time Machine backup list

I think that you include perhaps instead of with the exception of the...

If you look at time Machine... the list of disks, you should have is excluded... If remove you it from the list of the excluded, they are included...

It is opposite to almost anything else, I saw where you include on the list of things.

In this menu area, you must have all of the listed external hard drives. Because they are excluded not included... If your list is empty as mine... then all are INCLUDED.

  • Qosmio X 500 - 10W - can I replace the HARD drive with another?

    Hello

I have a Qosmio X 500 - 10W with two drive HARD Toshiba MK5055GSX 500 GB 5400 RPM 8 MB? SATA II but is one of the hs so I'm wondering if I can be replaced by a more powerful style, drive HARD 750 GB 7200 RPM / min 16 MB Toshiba courses?

    Thank you

    Hey,.

Your question is a bit hard to understand, but I think you want to replace the HARD drive with another (faster) model, right?

Well, that s no problem. 7200 RPM hard drives works, they are a little stronger, but they're faster so if you need more performance without problem.
750 GB or more are also no problem because the SATA interface is not the limited capacity. Theoretically 1 TB or more should also work.

Anyway, you can buy the 750Go you mentioned that it will work. :)

  • Implementation of Airport extreme with the same SSID

My House has very thick walls and so I run a Cat5 cable for a number of rooms and installed an Airport Extreme for everyone to create a local WiFi network.

For the moment, each creates its own wi fi network which is very good for connecting phones, tablets and laptops but I'm trying to connect some SONOS devices and they are not find each other so not a link to the main controller of SONOS.

SONOS support suggests that if I could get the extremes of the airport on the same SSID, which should help you because they would all be network extensions and so devices would be able to find each other.

I tried making them all extensions of the network wi fi router but can't see not in the options when I select "Extend an existing network", although on my iPad, I can see wi fi network to the router where the Airport Extreme is so too, it is wired to the router would have thought it should be possible to make all the extensions of a single network.  Research in the community, it seems that the airport is unable to extend a wifi network not Apple, but I could at least get all the airports on the same SSID can help.  I also tried to set up airports so they all extend the network, but they do not see each other because they are too far away.

I'm not an expert in network management, I understand bits having to solve problems earlier, but if there is there advice or suggestions of the community that would be great

    Thank you

    David

You choose to extend a network when the incoming signal is wifi. What you need is a "mobile network". Simply connect each airport to the router by ethernet and network with the same SSID and password than the original. Reset the airports so that they put in place from the new so that they detect the arrangement and get into bridge mode - you do not want to provide the IP numbers, you want the home router to do and airports to pass.

  • Extend an AirPort Extreme with a Terminal AirPort Express increasing the number of users?

I have an AirPort Extreme 2 years ago. Based on the technical page of the product, the router can theoretically connect up to 50 users. That's more than enough if used at home.

However, I intend to deploy a network of airports in our new office building and we have more or less 50 employees. Because everyone has a smartphone that it needs to connect, I try to at least 100 users/devices. Which includes all the network printers. Obviously, an AirPort Extreme is not enough. Another thing, I have considered is that the office building is 2 floors and all the walls are made of concrete, which means the distribution of the wifi signals is affected.

I thought to extend an AirPort extreme with 3 more AirPort Expressare (mobile network). It's 2 APs on each floor. That should solve the problem of distribution wifi. I'm not sure the first problem - 100 or more devices into a single network.

So extending an AirPort Extreme with 3 more AirPort Expressare (making a roaming network with 4 access points) increases the number of potential users of 50 to 200 (assuming that each access point can connect to 50 users)?

In theory, Yes.  But you must take this specification of 50 users with a grain of salt.  Once there are 20-25 users on the same airport access point, things will slow down significantly. The system will operate as of cold molasses with up to 50 users on the same access point.

Quite frankly, in a business application, you need a software router. Apple routers are designed for home use.

Another way to say the same thing, is that Apple does not routers Apple at the Apple Store. Who could tell more than anything whatsoever about the suitability of the products in your proposed network.

My advice would be to get an IT professional in and review your needs... before you move further.

  • Xfinity X 1 modem/router is compatible with the Airport Extreme? How it should be configured to maintain my wireless network?

I got a modem Comcast/Xfinity upgrade. Xfinity X 1 modem/router is compatible with the Airport Extreme? How it should be configured to maintain my wireless network?

Whenever you change the modem or modem/router on a network, AirPort Extreme will be reset to the default settings and then set it up again to work properly with the new modem. For this he would be...

Turn on AirPort Extreme for a few minutes... If it is not already turned on

Hold in the reset button on the back of the AirPort Extreme for 7-8 seconds, then release it.

Allow a minute for the AirPort Extreme restart to a slow, flashing amber light status

Make sure that an Ethernet cable connects to one of the four LAN <-->Ethernet ports on the modem/router on port WAN "O" on AirPort Extreme

To start the Setup program, click the WiFi icon at the top of the screen on your Mac and are looking for a list of the new AirPort base station

Just below that, click directly on the AirPort Extreme and then follow the prompts for configuration "Wizard".

When you configure AirPort Extreme once again, you can use the same wireless network name and the same password that you used with AirPort Extreme with the 'old' modem, if you wish, or use a new wireless network name and password

  • Windows 7 computer to connect to Airport Extreme with an external USB drive attached. Flash drive appears for the network map but not the hard drive.

original title: drive hard extreme airport

Using Windows 7 and the Airport Extreme.  The Airport Extreme has a USB port that can be used to mount an external hard drive which is accessible via the wireless connection.  Only thing is, I can't get a 2 GB flash drive will appear for mapping.  When I use the other hard drives, they never show upward for mapping.  They show that it is connected to the Airport Extreme, but are not seen by my PC.   The internet has a rumor according to which hard drives will show up only on a PC if they are to FAT32... which would work without another formatted hard drive.  What do you know about my problems of compatibility with hard drives?

    Hello

Check updates firmware for the Airport Extreme.

    Airport Extreme

    ---------------------

Although I think that the question is really the Airport Extreme also updates Windows 7 WiFi.
Check with the system manufacturer and the real device manufacturer updates the driver.

Control Panel - network - write down of the brand and the model of the Wifi - double click top - tab of the driver - write
version - click the driver update (cannot do something that MS is far behind the pilots of certification). Then
Right click on the Wifi device and UNINSTALL - Reboot - it will refresh the driver stack.

Look at the sites of the manufacturer for drivers - and the manufacturer of the device manually.
    http://pcsupport.about.com/od/driverssupport/HT/driverdlmfgr.htm

Installation and update of drivers under Windows 7 (updated drivers manually using the methods
below is preferred so that the latest drivers from the manufacturer of system and device manufacturers are
    found)
    http://www.SevenForums.com/tutorials/43216-installing-updating-drivers-7-a.html

Download - SAVE - go where you put it - right click – RUN AS ADMIN.

You can download several at once however restart after the installation of each of them.

After watching the system manufacturer, you can check the manufacturer of the device an even newer version.
(Those become your fonts of rescue system manufacturer).

Repeat for network (NIC) card and is a good time to get the other updated drivers as windows
    7 love the updated drivers.

    I hope this helps.

  • The airPort Extreme (2007) and Time Machine

    Hi all

I read the info "how to ask a good question" and apparently you need details. I'll try and be concise but informative with my problem. It has been a long journey to get to where I am, but hopefully, with a little help from this amazing community, I can get to my destination.

    Task

To produce a backup solution Time Machine for the family spending as little money as possible and using the BRIC and broc, I already have.

    Equipment available

I have a House with some ethernet cables for most rooms that through switches to allow a variety of, most entertainment devices to communicate. It is:

    1 x NAS/Media (ReadyNAS Duo v2) server,

    2 x TV (Samsung),

    2 x TEU (Beyonwiz),

2 x Apple TV (a 2 nd generation the other is the latest version)

    2 x DVD players,

    1 x iMac.

    2 x 8-port switches,

    1 x 16 switch ports,

    1 x AirPort Extreme (2007).

1 x Airport Express (age unknown but older than the extreme)

    1 x Fritz! Box 7490 Modem/Router

    Courses in place

All the associated TV stuff are connected in 2 rooms through ethernet via switch 2 x 8 ports switch 16 central port and then to the Fritz! modem/router box.

There are also all the usual WiFi going on with mobile phones, iPads and laptops.

Remarkably, it seems just to work!

However, I want to add some backup data on our computers. I tried to do by using the ReadyNAS as it is supposed to support Time Machine, but I can't it to appear as a backup destination. So, I thought, as I have AirPort Extreme, I add it to the network and attach a USB HDD for Time Machine since it is supposed to be easy. However, I've been home for hours and cannot make the HARD disk appear in system preferences/Time Machine.

I plugged the Airport Extreme in one of the switches 8 port said to create a wireless network with the same details as the Fritz! The box according to another article of the support (Airport Extreme wired AND expand network - need of entry). Airport utility shows me Wi-wired connections and seems to work.

I look at the AirPort Extreme disks tab and can see the attached USB drive here. However, it does not appear as a choice of drives available for backup in Time Machine preferences. I tried 2 different discs with the same result.

    The Question (finally)

How can I get Time Machine preferences to show the USB disk attached to AirPort Extreme as a valid choice for backups? If anyone can give me a little help in the right direction, I would be very grateful.

    Thank you for reading this,

    Grant

Unfortunately, the key here is that the version of AirPort Extreme you have does not officially support Time Machine backups on a drive to the USB port of the device.

The only version of the AirPort Extreme, which will officially support Time Machine backups on a drive in the USB port on the airport is the 802.11ac current version that looks like a "tower". Older versions of 'flat and square' of the AirPort Extreme don't support Time machine with a USB drive attached.

To check, please see "Time Machine in charge of USB drives" in this Apple support document... AirPort base stations: discs on USB - Support Apple

Support for time Machine to USB drives

OS X Time Machine supports compatible USB drives encrypted, related to the time Capsule (802.11n and 802.11ac) AirPort and AirPort Extreme (802.11ac).

Given that the average life of most wireless routers lasts about 5 years, and your AirPort Extreme seems to be about 9, your AirPort Extreme did very well for you... much better than the average. It might be time to start thinking about a replacement who will be responsible for backups Time Machine... either a time Capsule (i.e. an AirPort Extreme with a built-in hard drive) or another AirPort Extreme.

  • Open ports on the AirPort Extreme 7.7.7

I wonder how to open ports on the AirPort Extreme version 7.7.7.

I spoke to Microsoft some ports I need to open for my Xbox and have the list of ports. I'm looking for how to do this. I have no experience with this sort of thing and I know that I can do in the AirPort Utility application, but I don't want to mess with all that I wouldn't have to. I tried to search online for this guides and I can't find anything that is recent. When I watch videos, everything is a little different and the interface is not quite the same more so any help is appreciated.

I got this Tip for the user of an airport for this situation. Check it out and see if this helps you.
