IBM ServeRAID M1015 in a Lenovo D20 4158

Is that what someone did never successfully install an IBM ServeRAID M1015 in a D20?

The reason why I ask is that I just tried and failed. I attached the SATA drives with SFF 8087 cable and installed the adapter in a x 16 slot. When starting, I can access the WebBIOS adapter and accesses the card from Windows 7 by using the management software. So far so good.

The problem is that the card itself does not recognize a single disc (I tried several different types/brands). Suspecting the interruption / resource issues I have disabled the Intel and Marvell card in the BIOS, updated the firmware M1015 etc... no luck.

-What did somebody ever successfully install a M1015 in a D20? If so, what is the trick?

Regarding the cutting of Marvell - we have three D20s in use. On each of them this adapter corrupt always any RAID sooner or later (Linux and Windows). Even after a replacement of the motherboard. As much as I love D20, the embedded RAID adapter is really a loss.

Thanks in advance for all tips!

I finally solved the mystery. The problem was the cable. I had three brand new cables. It seems that each of them was defective. Waiting for me who? Right now I'm running a RAID5 that shows no problems so far and works well. It corresponds to current needs. Regarding the adapter Marvell, the problem wasn't that I let go of a volume. The problem was that the data has been corrupted for no apparent reason (State SMART drives all was okay etc.). Thus, so-called if a drive fails I think the adapter to degrade a volume to not corrupt. I had the same effects with three types of different discs from different manufacturers on this map. I disabled this card now that I had a fully functional replacement (and reliable so far) with the M1015. Just make sure that your cables are ok ;-}

I have a Lenovo D20 workstation, I upgraded my GTX660 to a GTX1080 and started having some weird random offs of the power system.

I bought the card on October 21 to run Civ 6 better, fine installed map and ran for three days without any problem.

The third day, the system itself off the power run game. No BSOD, no warning of any kind, just don't click off.

Done a lot of troubleshooting and seemed to track down for a thermal problem, because once I did a full clean and system fans and back together, everything worked...

Flash forward another 2 weeks, mid-game Civ 6, stop at random one another down. System still clean as a whistle...

It's now a battle since to maintain the system for more than a few days sometimes for a few minutes as it will at the same time more and more.  Last hour of Gears of War 4, exactly the same task.  Thinking it is thermal, I upgraded to something bigger heatsinks (fans work normally same towers / etc), system is now 20 degrees cooler and I still get the random low stop...

Thought that's current partner, if I traded in my PSU I have for my box of spare prod... No effect.

Thought the card was dead, so I traded in my old GTX660, the system worked flawlessly...  Swapped the D20 1080 another that I have here, and it worked perfectly fine solid launch an automated Civ game 3 days...  Swapped the 1080 in my D20, worked for another 3-4 hours, then click power off.

I continue to roaming to heat I have some temporary sensors which seem to put the wrong mistakes, I have one that always is at about 128C called "Remote1" 2 other D20, I have here do not have this sensor, I literally stripped everything out of the box and the sensor "remote1" remains.  Where is it?  (see attached photo)

HW_Monitor shows my CPU nice and cool... SpeedFan shows a CPU @ 31 c and the other at 101 c, the two seem well in HW monitor. Am I an overheating? OR am I not?

Here is my complete listing of the system:

    D20

    2 x X 5675-3, 06 Ghz

    GTX1080 HC 8GB

    LSI/3ware 9650SE RAID card w/5x3TB

Kingston 240 GB SSD (boot drive)

    I did the following diagnosis:

Added new radiators - thermal. (Works great with GTX660, not with the 1080).

Re-sitting all the RAM, I even changed a lot.  Memtest passes.

I removed the RAID card and associated hard disks. (I thought that's where they get "Remote1".)  It isn't.).

I tried the two 16 x slots in the system.

I ran a full stress test using the handbrake and P95 to try to make the system draw as much power as possible to stress the CPU/PSU/MEM, wanted to test the GPU at the same time so I ran a civ 5 automated and civ 6 interactive game. It ran for several hours and clicked itself turned off AFTER I had finished the stress on the CPU... (I killed the brake hand and P95 and just got Civ execution).

I swapped the power supply with a known good unit.

I placed the 1080 in a solid known D20 chassis, no problem.

I checked the mobo for swelling / leaks / breath caps. No there that I can see.

I ran the sound system high mode and fan speed used same used maximally all fans, always off System... All time seemed cool except "Remote 1". Read local 66 c.

I changed the bars that I use.

I changed the wall outlets that I use.

I entirely cleaned the system and all associated fans.

I tried ALL video pilots...  I have done so of restorations and clean installs Windows bored me.

Windows provides no newspaper except to say "power has been removed from the system or the system became unresponsive.

BIOS is like a power failure and will reboot the system (once I put it to turn on automatically).

I'm at the point where I'm going to empty the entire chassis and start over again because its so intermittent and so random that I can't pinpoint the problem.  When you look at Speedfan, the a 'CPU' that says its 101 c, when he goes to 110 c, that seems widely when the system will be eager to stop, he stopped at a few times and 115C, but HW_Monitor still reads the CPU is also nice and cool, with cores running between 35-40 degrees Celsius, not anywhere near 100 101 c...

I spent several hours on it and still can't seem to find answers that are concrete...

Someone at - it ideas?  Someone has ideas on what/where all these thermal probes are?

Can someone give me any ideas would be great...

    Hello

First of all, thank you guys for getting back to me so fast, I know that you guys must be flooded and I really appreciate your support on my aging material.  You are a credit to your teams.

So I'm in the mode full tinker now, and as I am not under warranty, it is not as if I had nothing to lose = D.

I think I have tracked down the problem - but I said at least 6 times in the last few weeks.

The EVGA GTX SC 1080 has a metal radiator that runs the length of the card, these fins are exposed along the law and the length as a vent along all sides of the map, the side exposed to the door frame and the side which is exposed to the motherboard. There are also a few air holes in the top (bottom?) of the map. When the GTX 1080 is seated in the slot 16 first x, all the heat from the back of the card is discharged directly on the North Bridge heat sink.  This seems to be what it heats up a lot, and why the 660 fact ever, the events don't go anywhere near him.   In fact, I removed my GPU right after a stop down and the NB heatsink was hot touch was a 3 degree burn.

so I tied a 40mm fan on the heatsink to the Northbridge PCI, he turns to 4000-5000 + rpm and managed to cool the heatsink about 30 degrees, it starts as 65 degrees rather than 95 and revolves around 82-85 under a load of game...

I'll keep you posted on the tests.

  • Configuration of memory Lenovo D20, possible empty slots with sizes mixed or unbalanced.

I have a D20, 12x4Go 2 CPUs, 48 GB of memory. I think the upgrade to 12x8Go, or if possible something using a number reduced from 16GB RDIMMS. Is this possible? for example I could install on each CPU (16,16,empty),(4,4,4)? Or do I have to fill each slot on each group of 3? Are there performance problems? I can not find a guide for valid layouts anywhere, so if anyone can point me to which I would be grateful. Thank you.

Personally, I'd go with option that is less expensive. If you add 4 x 16GB to your existing memory is less, then it would be a good option. Install them in the 16th, 16, 4, 4, 4, 4 by the graphic on your access panel. This will give you a total 96GB without any loss of speed. I see no reason to leave empty DIMM_6.

The differences in performance between 12 x 8 GB and the odd option is probably minimal. You may lose only 1 ~ 5% maximum leaving the last empty places. If it is for storage purposes (ie: large CAD assemblies) then you won't see any difference. If you use memory for calculations (CFD, FEA, etc.) while 1 ~ 5% could save a few minutes in your day.

  • DIMM Lenovo D20 options

Is it possible to fill all 12 slots DIMM with Hynix 8 GB of ram PC3-10600R running at 1333 Mhz?
    I have 2 processors X 5660.

I'm referencing table #3 on page 50 of the manual of the material for the D20, and it shows that it is possible. No experience of the real world on this?

Yes, it is certainly possible. I have double X5675s in my C20 filled with the same modules and they work fine.

  • How to install the IBM ServeRAID Manager rpm package in ESXi 3.5 U3

I installed ESXi 3.5 U3 on an IBM x 345 server. I found an agent who will install and is supported on ESX. It is an rpm package to be installed, so I can manage and display the health of the RAID arrays on the server remotely through a windows server that is running the management console.

So, when I try to install the rpm from the ESXi console package, I get the following error, which tells me that RPM is not installed in ESXi.

    -Ash: rpm: not found

Do I somehow get the package to install without having installed RPM?  Is it possible to get the RPM, I install the agent?

I'm new on Linux, so flawless with the controls, but I think I'm on the right track here as to what is happening. Any ideas would be very useful.

    Tim

I don't think that it is still possible, because the console on ESXi is not a complete linux as the ESX service console.

I think its just busybox with a limited command set.

Considering that IBM sold its PC to Lenovo company in 2004, if you are using one of the tools that come with an IBM PC on Windows 7, they are probably not working.

  • ESXi + IBM x 3500 7977: RAID followed

    I use a System x 3500 IBM with 7977 for ESXi. It has a controller, IBM ServeRAID 8 k in it, with readers SAS 8 x 300 GB 10 000 rpm.

Currently, the server running Windows Server 2003. It's based on java ServeRAID management tool from IBM that alerts me when a drive is faulty, when a raid controller battery is being let down, etc.. There is a feature where I can do a right-click on the failed disk on the screen and then click 'Identification reader' and it flashes a light on the reader chose I can see which physical drive.

If I change the ESXi server, these features will be always available? They are quite critical. If so, I guess I'm going to need some sort of list combo driver/application of IBM, the driver I installed on the server and the application of management on a networked PC and connect to the ESXi server. I'm reasonably well versed in the shell under linux, so I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty and recompilation of some drivers etc if need be.

My understanding of this is correct?

If Yes to all the foregoing, which one of these drivers should I?

Thanks in advance - Any Insight appreciated

X 3500 M3, the IP address for the IMM is set in the BIOS of the POST (i.e., press F1 for Setup to the POST screen).  I have just given an IP address on my subnet and point a browser to that IP address.

For example - one I use for this test is sitting on 192.168.1.52.

Point a browser to http://192.168.1.52 and you get the login screen shown in the PDF I have attached.

Configure e-mail alerts is under network protocols in the menu on the left.  Simply set an SMTP server (make sure your SMTP server allows relay from the IP address of the IMM).  Then configure alerts to add an alert to your e-mail address and the alert level that you want.

Again, it is on the most recent 3500's with the IMM.  I have a couple of release of x 3500 on the ground with the RSA - II modules, I believe that the process is much the same for those who - even if I do not remember if the IP address on the RSA parameters is the F1 - menu of configuration of the IBM post or not...

I've been a loyal user of Linksys (CISCO) since the purchase of my 1 Access Point wireless router and 4-port Switch (BEFW1154 v2) in 08/2002. I upgraded to a Linksys Wireless - G Broadband Router (WRT54G v8.00.2) 11/2007. My home wireless network supports; IBM Thinkpad (Windows XP) and Lenovo Ideapad (Windows VISTA Home Premium). A month ago I started having disconnect problems with the WRT54G. The two laptops have been disconnect it. At first I disconnected the supply WRT54G for about 1 minute then plugged in. This has not solved the problem of disconnection. I then tried to unplug the cable modem and power WRT54G. Wait about 1 minute and then reconnect the cable modem, allowing it to reset and synchronization. Then I plugged the WRT54G. This temporarily solved the problem for a few minutes but the disconnection problem returned. I have reset the WRT54G Setup factory default and reconfigured it to my home network. The disconnection problem was not solved by taking this action. I contacted Cablevision that provides my broadband Internet access. They could not identify a root cause of the problem of disconnection. To determine whether the root cause was another thing that the WRT54G, I reinstalled the BEFW1154. I did have a problem of disconnection from taking this action leading me to believe that the WRT54G is bad. • Rescue and recovery blocks for hours at 0% of backup

    Hello

My R61 ran quite OK, but slower over time. I got through rescue and recovery made a backup of the entire system on an external hard drive. (I had come back to XP and recently did a total system backup on the external HD). So I haven't started the rescue and recovery, thinking that he should simply reinstall it previously saved system. Alas at step 2 the progress of rescue and recovery, the new generation of the system stopped. Black screen with the message: «backup system is...» 0 % ». Here I wait for hours. Nothing progesses.

What should I do? Island of 'progress' is already happening for 6 hours! (I see that my external HD flashes from time to time, but the computer does not seem to do anything).

What should I do? I fear that if I press the power button to restart the computer, I will plant it completely.

    Please help me!

    Thanks in advance

Rescue and recovery hung several times for hours. Yet, it seemed to work after 20 hours. Puhhhh...

Lenovo at: Your UI during the rescue and recovery process is ineffective. He left me without any feedback for hours. Almost, I rebooted the computer during critical backups. Here you certainly should help the user to understand what to do and what not. How can I find out, it's OK to have a bar saying 0% progress made for 8 hours.

Even now, I don't know what to do. The computer restarts, windows is OK. But now I can turn off the computer or is always something during rescue and recovery. The last time, he says, it is step 2 on a total of 5 steps. Is it still now something in the back? The rescue is complete? Where is the message telling me, he did the job.

All users: be patient, do not hit anything it either by running a rescue and recovery.

So, I ended up having no actual backup of a validating at the beginning.  In short: Rescue and Recovery can be a tool very well for an IT expert. For the average user, there are much too many traps. Lenovo: Try to it you like-centered-design user instead of the user Board Chinese garbage, if in the future, you want to keep as «almost IBM» brand name For me, Lenovo - in this regard - is more "almost Chinese It-garbage".
