icons on my desktop appear as "Microsoft Exporer' generic icons

All the new icons on my desktop appear as 'Microsoft Exporer' generic icons. Any help appreciated...

Jim,

You can create shortcuts to your favorite in the Favorites web pages and the favicons will be there. Or you can create a favorite on a link bar in Internet explore and that display the "logo".

The problem you are having is a common one in terms of URL shortcuts are considered. When you create a shortcut to a Web site, or add to Favorites IE, Internet Explorer downloads a file icon named "favicon.ico" from the Web site. This is the icon file that contains the icon that see you on your shortcuts.

Windows Vista does not support customization of shortcut icons Internet Explorer on the desktop other than the steps in my previous post. These 'logo' to mark specific icons are called the favicons. Favicons do not appear on the default desktop shortcuts in Vista. If the favicon doesn't exist for your shortcut that will be located in the temporary Internet files. If you can find it there when you browse after step 2 of my previous post, you can use it. If it isn't there, using another icon, is your only choice.

Internet Explorer stores the favicon file in the folder Temporary Internet Files itself. This means that whenever you clear your temporary internet files, or after a defined number of days when IE erases the file icon file is lost. Accordingly, because Windows is no longer able to find customized icons for Web sites, it is the icon of Internet Explorer by default.

  • "Device Failed to Connect" sound notification with no popup at startup once the desktop appears

When the desktop appears, I sound "dududu" with no popup. I had to look it up in the audio file and the explanation next to it said noise "device failed to connect.

I currently have no device attached except speakers and keyboard and mouse. I bought a HP Phopsmart printer and installed but it does not work well, so I uninstalled it. I left the USB cable connected to the computer after disconnecting the printer after reboot several times, and then disconnected. At this time the sound notification has begun.

I don't know if the printer had nothing to do with it. What should I do to fix this? Help, please. Thank you.

  • NET Framework Update KB2804577 watch in my list of programs, but also continuous appears in Microsoft Update as downloaded and waiting to be installed.

The update a few months ago... Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 (KB2804577), continues to appear in my list of installed updates. But according to updates from Microsoft, it is downloaded and ready to be installed. He also appeared in my sandbox with automatic updates as ready to be installed. He also continues to appear when I shut down my computer. Any number of times when I tried to leave my computer to install this update when I close down, by means of Microsoft Updates and automatic update. It will simply not go away! Since it puts in my list of programs updated, is it updated? If so, why he continues to show needing to be installed? I run Windows XP. IE8.

Sorry, it took so long to answer. To answer your questions, no he didn't is not updated and that's why he continues to show. This is a common problem with updates of the .NET Framework.

    Follow these steps:

Download it manually here. Click on download and choose NDP20SP2-KB2804577 - x 86 .exe. Install it and then visit Windows Update and check if it shows as a high priority. If it isn't there, you should no longer be disturbed by it.

If it's still there, follow these steps:

Uninstall .NET Framework 2.0 from Add / Remove programs.
Then download the .NET Framework cleanup tool , unzip it, run it, and in the drop-down list box, select 2.0 and clean.
    Reinstall .NET Framework 2.0
Visit Windows Update or Microsoft Update and let it install the rest of the 2.0 updates, including KB2804577.

Check if they install and report.

  • Distorted words in Web pages and the desktop appear after viral infection cleaned

I'm very technologically challenged, so I hope someone can help me.  Computer turned on the other day and some of the words are fragmented, both online and with the saved documents.  The entire page is not affected, but several words have the appearance to be "sliced" in 1/2 and the words are out of the game.  In my e-mails, some are perfectly fine, others are not.  I have McAfee and it found 3 viruses, but he stated that the problems have been fixed/fixed.  My computer is right for?

    Hello Laura,

In addition to the previous questions, I was curious to know if you have updated your drivers to view the your manufacturer's Web site.

If this isn't the case, you can certainly give that a try.

In addition, I noticed that there are viruses on the system.

It is concerns me because you can never really know the extent of the damage they did prior to the withdrawal.  Please take note of the comments on this link:
