Icons on the desktop is always in motion

I recently had some work on my computer and now the top of desktop icons still moving around every time I start the computer.  I make a way and they pop up another way.   With Windows XP, I knew how to stop it, but I can't find the answer for Windows Vista.

Is there a simple way to avoid this, whenever I turn on my computer?
Thank you

Right click on the empty desk > view > uncheck auto arrange > check snap to grid.

And if you play games with different resolutions, which will also do.
But you cannot change that.

I can rearrange the icons on the desktop of my iPad?

Yes, just press and hold an application until the icons wiggle. Then you can drag and drop icons around to put in the order you choose or move to different pages. You can't however move icons to create gaps between them. They will always be positioned in the upper left corner for the first available space. Once you've converted them, you can click the home button to turn off him jiggle.

  • shortcut icons on the desktop

OK, it is not important, but the names of my shortcut icons on the desktop, suddenly changed - now I have white writing on a gray background.  How to change?

You can use system restore to roll back the machine back to a point just before that the problem started.

(Thanks to Alan Edwards for what follows, a search for "icons transparent alan edwards" will always find quickly and easily the solution).

Four things are needed for the transparent icon backgrounds:

    1. Control Panel-System-Advanced-Performance settings.
Check "Shadows fall to use the desktop icon labels" on the display
    Effects tab.

2 - Click on Desktop - "arrange icons by" and ensure the lock Web
    items is disabled.

    3. transparency will not work if you have the web content on your desktop.
Control panel - display properties Desktop tab - customize the Office-
Web tab, clear all the check boxes.

    4. ensure that the wallpaper is an image file no HTML.

  • New investment of Vista icon on the desktop

My Vista desktop is set to show medium icons, with autoarrange and snap to grid.  Whenever I have create a new icon on the desktop (i.e. save a file it), it seems just under the computer icon in the upper left corner.  However, I keep a number of icons on my desktop, so it moves all other icons to the bottom and to the right.

In Windows XP, all the new icons would be automatically placed to the "end" (in bottom right) of all the icons already on the desk.  Is it possible to get Vista to do the same?

It's just more convenient to always have the old icons in the expected location and new appear on the "end" of the list.

  • All icons on the desktop have turned to photo viewer and cannot open these programs

I recently had my computer up to date. Everything was fine until I put my memory stick in the laptop and tried to download my back upwards. Now, when I turn the laptop on the icons does not load and are all stuck in photo viewer and I cannot open programs at all. Can anyone help please, thank you

Original title: icons on the desktop

I'm not 100% sure but I think that you are having a bad "file extension association. This is where the default program to open a file is incorrect. In the case of your office, these are all shortcuts (for example. LNK files) and the. LNK Association was by mistake coupled with Photo Viewer.

I've seen this happen when opening a program via a shortcut (for example. LNK file), you are asked what type of program to open it with. After you have selected the photo viewer (or another program) via the Select a program from a list of programs installedand check always use the selected program to open this type of file (circled in red below), the document or program referenced by the shortcut of origin opens in the Photo Viewer as it should.

The problem is that now all shortcuts (for example. LNK files) on the desktop or in the Explorer will want to be opened by the photo viewer and often use the icon Photo Viewer to display the shortcut no matter what shortcut was originally intentioned to open. This is known as a file association and the default icon. The same condition can occur if you have performed these actions 'Open with' on one. JPG or even a. EXE, but the. LNK explanation is much more likely for the items on the desktop.

The good news is that a small free utility was written to cancel the. LNK file association was created. There is also a registry hack to achieve, but I recommend the utility unASSOC for its ease of use.

You can get a copy of my OneDrive here. I used to send people elsewhere to download a copy, but this page is more in addition to confusion with misleading ads to download this and this computer of powders of snake oil "fixed".

Just download, then use the utility to unassociate the. LNK files for the user or globally delete the file type and let windows rebuild a new default.

See if there is a Mozilla Firefox directory in C:\Program Files (x 86). If so and there are files in this directory, you should be able to reinstall Firefox without losing your preferences.

Also, you should be able to run it by typing "Firefox" at a DOS command prompt. If it is running, then just create icons yourself.

my fathers partners last week computer has been infected by adware, which was easy enough to remove safely. But last night he told me his return (he thinks ebay.co.uk is at fault?). In any case, when I had a quick glance, there is an icon on the desktop, titled null0. # .rar, which he had never seen before. Brilliant orange white white outline of the letter X. The computer does not connect to the internet, unable to open the system restore and the pop ups are quite common. Anyone can shed light on what I can do?
