ID OF THE VSAN UCS

Hello

I have a small question on the VSAN ID and hope you guys have an answer for that.

When you create a VSAN in UCS FI, ability I use the same VSAN ID created in the MDS switch upstream or can I use a different ID?

See you soon,.

Kisanka

Yes, the VSAn Id should be the same as the MDS upstream.

  • Configuring the Cisco UCS 5108 ports

    Hi all

I'm new in the world of the Cisco UCS server and am setting up Cisco UCS 5108 blade server. The server has two Cisco UCS 6324 interconnections fabric I did the initial Setup on and I try to configure the ports for the blades. Looking through the various articles and tutorials after setting global policies, I see the whole world establishment of uplink and server ports. What I read the uplink ports are plugged directly into the switches (I work with two cisco nexus switches), and server ports are used to connect to the chassis.

I wonder once the configured ports server what exactly are supposed to connect to? I assumed they would also connect to the switch nexus with the uplink ports. However, every time I set up the server ports and plug them in, the switch doesn't seem to have flooded and we lose all connectivity. If I unplug, the connection is restored almost immediately.

The current configuration, that I work with is two ports uplink on each fabric interconnect (4 2 total in each switch of nexus), two server ports on each (4 2 total, in every nexus switch). The only other element connected to the nexus switches is a SAINT who will be configured as a boot and storage of the UCS 5108.

Looks like you have a Mini UCS (6324), with 4-port 10 GB (each FI/IOM) with port QSFP 40 GB that can provide network connectivity linking rising, or if configured as a server port, could be used to connect to a server in a rack compatible Cisco UCS, or connect to a 5108 additional with IOM 2204XP chassis.  The blades installed in your initial 5108 chassis 6324 FI/IOM of housing have internal connectivity to the FIs / IOM without the need to configure ports 'server'...

Please take a look at some of the visuals in the datasheet below.

    http://www.Cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/servers-unified-computing/UCS-6300-series-fabric-interconnects/datasheet-C78-732207.html

Unified ports can also be configured as a FC ports for connectivity of FC switch upstream or directly related to CF Storage processors.

After having watched the datasheet, let me know if you have any other questions, and I'll try to address them.

You'll not need actually configure ports such as ports 'server' unless you connect servers in a rack.

Please configure any ethernet SFP type connected to your switches nexus upstream as 'network' uplinks.  I guess that you don't plan on a disjoint config layer 2 (where each FI has several sets of uplinks will different devices upstream, or the same device with different VLANS allowed on each link).    If you are, we can have a separate thread about how you need to configure that.

    Thank you

  • On the VSAN architecture in production environment

    Hi guys.

What is the best architecture VSAN for a production environment?

All in one VSAN witch cluster storage and VM on the same cluster or node have a VSAN cluster 2 cluster and another with a virtual machine, only that store a virtual disk on the VSAN cluster?

    Thanks in advance.

If I understand the question, then you don't have the choice with the current versions of the VSAN.

In order to access the database VSAN, the virtual machine must be deployed to an ESXi host computer that is part of the VSAN pole.

The VSAN data store can be exported outside to ESXi hosts that do not participate to the VSAN cluster.

    The suite - no buttons.

As far as I understand it - there are a few problems with certificate.

So, help me with troubleshooting, please.

    Thank you.

Glad it worked! I managed to solve the rest of my problem get the plugin loaded as well.  Layout rhttpproxy.cert solved the problem with health-tr/min-post-install completed successfully.  But after you start the vmware-vsan-health service, health in the web client page loaded yet never buttons such as 'enable '.

I checked /var/log/vmware/vsan-health/vmware-vsan-health-service.log and noticed it was spamming 'Could not open a session in VC, retry in 10 seconds' over and over again.  So I went digging in the python source in /usr/lib/vmware-vpx/vsan-health. I managed to understand that when you start the web service that hosts the plugin, it tries to connect to vCenter using own vCenter SSL certificate and the private key (rui.crt and rui.key) in/etc/vmware-vpx/ssl. On my VCSA, the permissions of that file looked like this:

    myvcsa: / etc/vmware-vpx/ssl # ls - la

    Total 28

    drwxr-x - 2 root cis 4096 Jul 20 05:00.

    drwxr-xr-x 14 root root 4096 21 Jul 04:05...

    -rw - 1 root root 3416 Apr 30 05:36 rui.crt

    -rw - 1 root root 1704 Apr 30 05:36 rui.key

    -rw - 1 root root 65 30 Apr 05:19 symkey.dat

    -rw - 1 root root 3343 Apr 30 05:36 vcsoluser.crt

    -rw - 1 root root 1704 Apr 30 05:36 vcsoluser.key

Now, I knew that the health service was run as a local user called vsan-health. It so there's no way that he would be able to read these files.  Fortunately, I had a mostly vanilla VCSA I could compare with.  Here's what looked like the VCSA vanilla folder:

    myvcsa: / etc/vmware-vpx/ssl # ls - la

    Total 28

    drwxr-x - 2 root cis 4096 Jul 20 05:00.

    drwxr-xr-x 14 root root 4096 Jul 21 04:24...

    -rw - r - 1 root cis 3416 Apr 30 05:36 rui.crt

    -rw - r - 1 root cis 1704 Apr 30 05:36 rui.key

    -rw - 1 root root 65 30 Apr 05:19 symkey.dat

    -rw - r - 1 root cis 3343 Apr 30 05:36 vcsoluser.crt

    -rw - r - 1 root cis 1704 Apr 30 05:36 vcsoluser.key

Notice the difference of the Group property on the associated files cert and change of 600 to 640 permissions.  When I saw that, I have also remembered seeing in the vsan firstboot script that the vsan-health user was added to the cis group.  As soon as I did my broken VCSA permissions corresponds to vanilla, the service has started and all this work began.  I guess the reason that my permissions were leech is a bug with the replacement of SSL scripts.  One of the first things I do on my vCenter is updating the SSL certificates with those customized PKI infrastructure.  I guess that process currently does not work quite right and live the permissions on files that is not replaced.

  • Disk groups are not visible cluster. vSAN datastore exists. 2 guests (on 8) cluster do not see the vSAN data store. Their storage is not recognized.

Do not know how even tear it down and rebuild it if the disk groups are not visible. The discs are in good health on each host storage adapters.

Currently the latest version of vCenter 5.5. Hosts running 5.5 build 2068190

Just built. Happy to demolish and rebuild. Just do not know why it is not visible on the two hosts and the disk groups are only recognized 3 guests when more are contributing. Also strange that I can't get the disk groups to fill in vCenter. I tried two different browsers (chrome and IE).

    I have now works.

All the identical 5.5 relies on ESXi hosts. All hosts are homogeneous CPU/sum of the prospects for disk controller / installed RAM/storage.

I have work. I had to manually destroy all traces of the vSAN on each single to help host node:

    (1) put the hosts in maintenance mode and remove the cluster. I was unable to disable vSAN in the cluster, I made on each node host (manually via the CLI below) then disconnected web client vCenter and return to finally refresh the ability to disable on the cluster.

esxcli vsan cluster get - to check the status of each host.

esxcli vsan cluster drop - the vSAN cluster host.

storage of vsan esxcli list - view records in the individual host group

esxcli vsan storage remove-d naa.id_of_magnetic_disks_here - to remove each of the disks in the disk group (you can ignore this using the following command to remove the SSD only falling each disc in this host group).

esxcli vsan storage remove s naa.id_of_solid_state_disks_here - this is the SSD and all the magnetic disks in a given disk group.

After that, I was able to manually add hosts to the cluster, leave maintenance mode and configure the disk groups. Aggregated data of the vSAN data store is correct now, and everything is functional.

Another question for those of you who still read... How to configure such as the VM storage strategy that migrates towards (or inspired) the vSAN data store will immediately resume the default storage policy, I built for VSANs?

Thanks for anyone who has followed.

I have 2 (twinax cables) connected between 5548UP ucs6248 and nexus

Should what configuration I configure on the NGC? FC or fcoe

Should what configuration I configure on the Nexus? CF or vfc

Can I use a twinax cable or a wired fiber sfp module?

Use the switch or NPIV mode?

using the switchport E or F?

Or I need a link that explains the process to follow.

  • Service profile of the CISCO UCS for ESXi

Do you need multiple boot LUN on the storage array for each host that you want to apply the service profile to? I'm just confused, let's say I have 12 blades that I want to designate as boot SAN for ESXi, y aura-t 12 profiles of separate service for each of them, and will need me 12 different LUNS on our storage? I am new to this and I just want to make it as clean as possible! Any help is appreciated.

    Hi Justin,

You can have the same LUN ID for multiple service profiles, as well as the same target ID. However, your initiators will be different and you will need to configure the zoning on your switch upstream if you use the end host mode.

  • Replacement of the VSAN disks to upgrade capacity VSAN

    Hello

Host with 1 flash, 5 magnetic disks all handsets in VSAN and the host has no more space for additional drives. Is the supported way to improve ability: remove the disc from lower capacity from the diskgroup, evacuate data, replace them with higher-capacity drive, wait for the magic, replace the next smaller capacity disk, etc., etc.?

When I insert the higher capacity drive and add it to the Group of disks, is there a process I need to manually trigger to release data on the new disk?

How can I track the progress of the evacuation of the data on a disc? And how can I track the spread of the data to the new drive?

    Gabrié

Hello, I think that you have the correct process.  Remove the disk from the web client, physically, remove the disc, insert the new drive.  VSAN is assigned to records of claim self, that should be it.  If you do not have to manually add claim the drive.  As you noted, waiting for data to be moved each time before moving.

If you have vSAN 6, you can run a proactive rebalancing to redistribute the data.  http://cormachogan.com/2015/04/22/VSAN-6-0-part-9-proactive-re-balance/

  • increase the UCS blade server port

    Hello world

I have a client with the following UCS environment:

    2 FI 6120

    2 chassis 5108

    6 B200M2

    Each chassis 5108 have 2 Fex 2104 and each 2104 a 2 10 G (cable Twinaxial) a link to each fabric Inteconnect 6120.

If we increase the number of Serverport for each chassis 5108 from 4 to 8 (each fex will be 4 uplink), could we destroy the traffic to the blade?

Is there a better procedure for this activity?

    Concerning

    Dino

    Hi Dino,

I'm not sure what you mean exactly by destory traffic towards the blades? Are you talking about any loss (eth and fc) connectivity for the blades for this upgrade activity? If so yes there will be. You can connect the cables between the FI and the IOM and the same brand, that ports are srever ports having no impact, but you can use the new links you will need to re - emphasize the chassis which is a disruptive process and trigger a restart of the blades.

    As for the procedure:

    (1) connect the ports between IOM and YEW,

    (2) mark ports on the FI as ports on the server,

    (3) re - ack frame that has these new ports configured (as mentioned, make sure that the blades on the frame are closed before you re - ack)

    I hope this helps!

  • Failover of the UCS Virtual Interface Card 1280

    Hello

I am facing some problems with failover and Cisco UCS Virtual Interface Card 1280.

I found some information about M81KR:

Cisco UCS M81KR has fabric failover

The Cisco UCS M81KR offers fabric failover, which allows the failover interface to a physical level without the overhead of operating system or hypervisor or certification.

    http://www.Cisco.com/en/us/prod/collateral/ps10265/ps10276/solution_overview_c22-555987_ps10280_Product_Solution_Overview.html

    (b) the two uplinks to a FI fail or FI fails: in this case the corresponding server links will be closed because there is no available on a financial institution uplink. The FI will spread link at the bottom of the adapter status. Once link at the bottom of map Upstate occurs, it is the responsibility of the operating system for the NIC/HBA remaining traffic re-PIN. The exception here is with adapter of Palo (M71KR and M81KR) that supports failover of fabric.

    https://supportforums.Cisco.com/docs/doc-18525

But I've not found on Cisco UCS Virtual Interface Card 1280.

Cisco UCS Virtual Interface 1280 card is newer than M81KR, anyone know if 1280 has the same function? is - it possible failover even if the fabric interconnect fails?

  • UCS Server beyond the 3 year support

    Hello

I'm in the early stages of the review of some Cisco servers.  Specifically the M3 UCS C240.  At this point, I'm just setting up online for an approximate price, I have not yet hired a partner. I see Setup options, SMARTnet 24 x 7 x 4 is available for one year or three years.  My application requires that I find the material with an option to support for 5 years.

If I buy now for 3 years, I will be able to extend my SmartNet contract annually after that? Assuming, of course, the product was not as eol.

And to estimate the costs of the year 4/5, should I just look at CON-OSP-C420M3 part number, which seems to be about $660 online.  New - ballpark prices only at this time.

    Thank you

    Bill

    Bill,

Yes, you can extend your support at any time.  The purchase comes by default with 3 years of support.  Even when the EoL is announced, there is always a period where it is sold.  When the notice of completion of sale is reached, then we have 5 years from this period to the full TAC support on all products.

All the details of our support policy are here:

    http://www.Cisco.com/en/us/products/products_end-of-life_policy.html

Be careful when you are 'parking ball' cost.  Cisco is well known for our delta between the list and the cost of actual sale.  Make sure that engage you a partner to get when we look through each salesperson in comparable prices.

Best of Luck and let know us if you have any questions during your comparison.

    Kind regards
