IE8 update

I can't stop the IE8 update to this computer. Script blocking is not recognized. In the Update window when I click right I don't get any options to hide.  I get no option to uninstall in Add Remove programs.  I have added a key block in the registry but IE8 continues trying to install.  I can not turn off auto update, because this machine belongs to the computer illiterate friend.  Reference Dell 1100-XP sp3-home

Click Start > right click on computer > properties > Windows updates down the lower left corner > updates installed in the lower left corner in the next window

> then click the one that you don't want > uninstall will appear at the top > uninstall it.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In addition, on the page where you clicked "Installed updates", click on change settings at the top left corner it
> Change update settings in the next page of AutoUpdate to "check for updates but let me choose etc" > OK ".
When you take a look at pending updates, you can either download/install them one at the time, namely the update causing you problems.
> or if you do not need an individual a (IE8) > right click > UAC prompt > hide it
    Since you have 2 identicle updates, and you are informed that you have the latest version, then you need not to update a copy. You can 'hide' the unwanted update. But before you can do this, you mustchange your auto manual update update.
    Click Start > in the search box, type windows update > press the Enter key > afraid that column, click settings actually > important section updated, click on the pointer, and then select "check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them > check under"Recommended Updates"> check mark under"Microsoft Updates"> check mark under the heading 'Notification of software' > click OK"
    Now that you have defined Windows updates on manual.
    When you receive the notification that the updates are available, click to see what they are. If you have already installed, click on RIGHT > click Hide.
    This willingness to update never appears again.
    I was alerted to an automatic update titled "Cumulative Security Update for IE8 to Windows XP (KB2360131)."  I think that he has downloaded, but whenever I try to install it, the process fails.  In other words, I click on 'Install', initialization takes place and then it appears the installation, but it fails.  No error code is given, only one window that opens to say "some updates could not be installed."  I see that some 7 and Vista had problems, but does anyone have suggestions for XP SP3?  Thank you.
  • SP3 and IE8 update problems
    Hi, hope someone can help me.  I run a Pentium 4 with Windows XP Media Center Edition machine.  I did the update to IE8 and then install SP3 thing that other people have had problems with.  I had bad too, so I uninstalled IE8 but I got in trouble, others have had with it.  To cut a long story short, I managed to go back to IE7 and recovered my settings for this.  I uninstalled SP3 and got my machine about how it was.  Now I want to install SP3 but Windows update will not propose it me as he seems to think that I have already installed.  The thing is, I want to run this computer in my home LAN, and my son computer Vista can't see my XP machine.  I want to install the LLD file but when I download this fix it install as it says I already have a newer version on my machine, which I don't have!  So it seems to me that I have to get rid of the registry entry, or anything which indicates all of the Microsoft network that I always have these things that I once installed, but no longer have.  If someone knows a way to do it, I would be very grateful for your advice. Best regards, Steve
  • Cancel the IE8 update and restore IE7
    I recently upgraded to IE7 to IE8. I have a Compaq XP OS with Service Pack 3. I found that a lot of my old programs (mainly games) started trolling and have become glitchy when you play now. I didn't know that IE8 would impact a browser games. The only other new hardward that I bought is a wireless laser mouse. One of these would be the cause of my problems? (another minor "Glitch" is specific to a Web site, I did it, where a tent seems to be become hidden by half of the page that was not the case before the upgrade). I want to uninstall IE8 and restore IE7. Is this possible? How can I do this?
    Hi Spartnz22,
    Welcome to Microsoft Vista answers Forum!
    Here are some steps that may solve the problem.
    Few of the updates that have been installed on the computer may have changed the settings, you may need to re-enable the settings, follow these steps to re-enable the settings that are related to the games and calculator.
    Click Start > type in programs and features in the search start > on the right pane click Windows features turn on or off > under games put a check mark, and then click OK > if there are already check, uncheck the box and click OK.
    Now, check if you are able to play games on your machine.
    Click computer > click on C: / drive > click on windows > System32-click > find calc.exe > double-click it. It will be re - activate the Calculator option on your computer.
    Give it a try with the above steps and let me know if these measures worked
    System Restore work? If so, then use a created point restoration before the attempted update 09/01/2011.
    The restore points created by Windows Update will be called Software Distribution 3.0.
    If there are restore points, use the one created just before the restore point of Software Distribution 1/9.
    If the system restore does not work or there is no restore point created before the preceding, since you have the XP CD, you can try a repair Installation.
    But, access denied errors, caused by inadequate security settings, can prevent the repair.
    Can someone help me with this problem please updates been sitting in my taskbar waiting to be installed for 2 weeks now.
    Thank you
    Hi Pauline J,.
    Thank you for visiting the Microsoft Answers forum.
    I surely would help you to solve the problem, but before that let me know the name of the updates
    which download but fails to install? You can find these updates by reviewing the history of update.
    1. the measures to check the update history: click on start, Control Panel, security, then under Windows Update, click view update history. Check your Windows Update history and in this list, I want to know the name of all updates failed to install recently or KB numbers?
    2. that you get an error message during the installation of the updates?
    According the information I have for now I recommend you to try some steps that will help you to solve your problem:
    a. some third-party programs may also affect the Windows Update service. If you are running third-party applications such as firewalls or security software, please disable it for a while.
    b. follow these steps to reset the Windows Update components manually.
    Step 1:
    Click Start, run and type cmd. Right-click "Command Prompt" and select "Run as Administrator". Click on 'Continue' in the UAC prompt.
    At the command prompt, type the following commands and press ENTER after each command:
    net stop wuauserv
    Net stop bits
    Step 2:
    Rename the Catroot2 folder.
    Type the following commands and press ENTER after each command.
    net stop cryptsvc
    Ren %systemroot%\System32\Catroot2 catroot2.old
    net start cryptsvc
    Step 3:
    Rename the folder "C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution".
    Type the following command and press ENTER.
    Ren %systemroot%\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old
    Step 4:
    Save the files used by Windows Update and Microsoft Update.
    At the command prompt, type the following commands, press ENTER after each command, and then click OK every time that you receive a verification message:
    regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\wuapi.dll
    regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\wuaueng.dll
    regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\wucltux.dll
    regsvr32 wups2.dll
    regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\wups.dll
    regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\wuwebv.dll
    Step 5:
    Start the service from Windows updates, Background Intelligent Transfer and the event log service.
    At the command prompt, type the following commands and press ENTER after each command:
    net start bits
    net start wuauserv
    net start Eventlog
    take the exit.
    Please try to download and install the updates using windows update. (Be sure to restart the computer if the update requires a restart before installing)
    4. you can also manually download the updates using the KB number and try to save it to the desktop and install from there.
    I hope this helps.
  • possible challenge with IE8?
    I've updated to IE8 a few days ago. (System: Windows Vista Home, Norton360.v3)
    Now, when in Windows Mail (to 6.0.6000...), I can not open attached .jpg, .zip, .pdf files (even those received and opened before the IE8 update.)
    Winmail opener - Tools - Options - Security tab - do not allow the opening or saving of attachments.
    Your antivirus can also have parameters for the latter.
    Also - start - programs - find Windows Mail icon on this list (NOT the one on the top of the Start Menu)
    Click with the right button on Windows Mail Icon - Properties - tab shortcut-
    Be sure to start in East = %UserProfile% (if different note this because your antivirus might have changed, he)
    BTW, I make good use of PopPeeper that has great features and allows a fixation easy access. Most of the antiviral product such as Avast that I use always check it out.
  • do not want to install IE 8, but he's still in the important updates
    I don't want IE 8 installed on my laptop because it plays havoc with my hp printer and there is a known conflict. It is included in the important updates that I have MS install automatically. So I had to disable the automatic download and the update of the MS software / drivers to avoid reinstalling IE 8. I had to uninstall IE 8 once already and uninstall / reinstall my printer & get it set up on the network again because of this known conflict. So now I put it to inform me of important updates / available, but I'll have to check on a daily basis to see if anything else that IE 8 is 'important' to update.
    Why a version upgrade are important. How do stop this download and return to automatic updates which is usually a safer option?
    If you do not need a particular (IE8) Update > go to the list of pending updates > right-click on > UAC prompt > it hide.
  • IE8 with SAP Business Warehouse
    After installing IE8 update I can't use SAP Business Warehouse queries, which return the error messages.  I uninstalled IE8 and the update of security for Microsoft Office Excel 2007 KB969682, which restored the BW feature on our professional XP laptops, but it does not work on my Vista laptop.  It seems that some elements of IE8 remain behind.  How can I remove completely all changes made to the IE8 update?  I tried to restore to an earlier date, but gives me a blue error screen when I restore to a date prior to 6/16.
    I highly recommend to disable your antivirus and anti-spyware (other than Defender) applications before install (or uninstall) an update of IE.  If you use a third party firewall, I would recommend the neutralization of him and then activation of the front Windows Firewall install (or uninstall) an update of IE.
    Tip: Restart twice after installing IE8 Final.
    Tip: Make sure that your antivirus application and your third-party firewall (if applicable) all (other than the Defender) anti-spyware applications is supported in IE8 Final before decide you to install it.
    You should be able to access Windows Update > "select updates to install", right-click on the IE8 update and click "hide update".
