If I install the Virtual Machine on Windows 7 Ultimate can I run Windows 98SE on it?

I have some old programs that I want to use and which are not compatible with Windows 7.

See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/831461 and https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/VBox_vs_Others.

Note that Windows Virtual PC does not support versions of Windows prior to XP version.

    Yes - you can
but that will make your VM very slow

    set
    prefvmx.minVmMemPct = "50".

  • I've set up the virtual machine in win 7 Ultimate and put some data. Now when I try to connect it asks password and does not accept any password.

Default password Machine virtual XP Mode

I've set up the virtual machine in win 7 Ultimate and put some data. Now when I try to connect it asks password and does not accept any password. Please giveme the default password

If you're talking about XP Mode the default password is XPMUser.  In general you can not use Windows without a password in Windows Virtual PC that you can with Virtual PC 2007 and before.  XPMUser is used only with the XP Mode virtual machine.  All other virtual machines requires a user created password.  If you have changed the password in XP Mode and forgotten, then you have to start over.

Windows Virtual PC is based on virtual server rather than VPC and all virtual machines need a password.  If necessary, uninstall the integration features, start the virtual machine and create a password for the admin user.  Restart the virtual machine, and then reinstall the integration features.  You will not be able to access a virtual machine created by the user that has no password, while the integration features are installed.  Once you have everything right, that a virtual machine will not be asked a password if you are the admin user in Windows 7.

  • How to install the virtual machine tools

I am new to this, and it's fun to find how to do everything. I'm stuck now, so need some help, I did search but could not find definitive answers.

I have ESXi installation, it will run on a dedicated slide. I have a windows-based virtual machine that I use to test.

I downloaded the iso of VM Tools for Linux to install on the server so that I can push to the client virtual machines. I can't understand how to install the VM on the server tools so that I have the option in the console to push to turn the VM to the client tools.

Is there something I'm completely missing? The iso is for linux, which is the server. I assumed it would be installed on the server that would allow me to push to windows clients.

    Help, please!

VMware tools for Windows is already included in the installation of ESX.

Customer Infrastructure using, go to the console of the virtual Windows computer and logon. Right-click of the virtual machine in the inventory on the left, then select "install/upgrade VMware tools. If Autorun is enabled the installation starts automatically, if not the Windows.iso is loaded into the virtual computer CD-ROM drive and you have to run setup.exe.

  • How to install the virtual machine to ISO image

Rather than burning a CD from ISO images downloaded from each OS you want to build a virtual machine it would be more convenient to use the ISO image directly. How can I achieve this?

Create the virtual computer with CD player.

Double click the CD drive in the virtual machine properties.

    Select USE AN ISO IMAGE

    Navigate to the image.

and also you can refer to this link

VMware Workstation 12 Pro Documentation Center

you're installation uses several CDs pleae follow this procedure

First duty (if the customer has a button for this) eject the CD in the comments, then ctrl-alt to focus the host, right click on the CD icon in the bar area of low right state of the workstation user interface and select disconnect; repeat, and then click edit. Select the image ISO next necessary; reconnect; then click the mouse back in the window of the customer and to know that the next CD is loaded.

  • create the virtual machine from windows NT 4 server with adaptec raid 5

I have an old Dell (1998) server running windows NT 4.0 sp6a.  He had a raid 5 configuration using the controller raid adaptec SCSI 2940.  2 discs failed who broke the raid set.  I had a disk recovery company to recover the data and they have scratched off readers and gave me a SATA with all volumes.  I found a procedure to create a virtual hard disk (.vhd) and then converted to a hard and used to create a virtual machine in VMware workstation 7.  When I turn on the virtual machine, it begins the process of starting windows, shows the boot menu, select normal or mode VGA, goes through the process of NTdetect, display processor and memory but then gives a BSOD with the message inaccessible_boot_device.

I changed the hard to affect the buslogic ddb.adaptertype, but it gave me the same problem.

is there a different driver that I need for an adaptec raid controller or if the typical SCSI drivers should work?  If the typical SCSI drivers should work, so my problem might be in my Boot.ini because it shows that he is supposed to start on the partition (4) and this sata drive may not have scores exactly as they were on the raid configuration.  I tried to mount the volumes not in read-only mode, but the partition that I need to change the boot.ini file is partition (2) what mapping VMware won't let me open mode not readonly.  whenever I have, select it and it opens the partition (1) mode not readonly.

I know this sounds complicated then I hope I described with precision.

    Hello
I live in Germany, but my internal clock seems to be adapted to the New York Times.
Very useful, because most repairs or recovery to the VMware is done the evening or at night.

  • Install the Virtual Machine

    Hi all

I hate to ask such a stupid question...

What is the trick to install a virtual machine? The home screen just goes by so fast and I don't have enough time to connect to my drive to install the operating system. Is there a setting somewhere that slows down, so I have the time to plug my hard drive?

    Thank you

    Hi WJCC.

Access the advanced settings of your virtual machine. You can add a delay to the boot process.

    I restart and no improvement.

Tips, thoughts, suggestions? Thanks a lot for your help.

I do not have the fainest idea why you're engaging again the truncated .vmx file of origin that you posted first however back a review what I said.  The line at the bottom is the .vmx file that I have attached to my last answer should be used to replace your computer in the Virtual Machine "s as package but the Virtual Machine must be stopped, not suspended and merger closed when you replace the truncated by a good I have attached.»  I can't do it, is more obvious or simple then I already have!

Search for files of *.lck in virtual machine directory - delete them all.
Also delete the directories named *.lck

Then try again - if it still does not need more details

  • Slow access to the virtual machine network (Windows 2008 Server 64-bit) Windows 7.

    Hello.

I have a problem when you access files shared on a Windows 2008 Server 64 bits on a client computer to Windows 7. It takes a long time (up to a few minutes) to for example open a Word file from the network share. It is not always, but quite often.

This also happens on two different servers client with almost the same equipment. Which is a basic IBM x 3400 with hard drives in RAID. I disabled the feature of unloading TCP/IP on the network inside the VM card.

Someone has an answer for this? Have I missed something, a configuration perhaps? I'm totally lost here...

    Kind regards

  • URGENT! After installing 6 Fusion and creation of new virtual machine with Windows 7, I get a message "VMware Fusion cannot enter the unit". WHAT SHOULD DO?

After purchase, installation and activation Fusion 6 with the license key, I had a library of VMS showing 2 Boot Camp partitions. It's strange that I only have 1.
I tried to activate them but received a message that it is out of date in 2 cases. (see annex 1)

I started a new virtual machine with a Windows 7 installation disc directly on my HD. I have provided a way to do this and followed the instructions of Fusion to the screen.

Apparently, everything went well and after several restarts, the installation appears to be over (see annex 2) I tried to open and run the installed Windows 7. I had however a window with the following message:

    "Pending the unit.

"VMware Fusion cannot enter the unit. Please wait until the unit starts automatically, or interact with the virtual machine below. ' (see annex 3)

Here Windows 7 seems to start but after a while with the home screen and of the Øresund finishing this window closed and open a new window called library Virtual Machine on the left showing the partitions of Bootcamp and the Virtual Machine Windows 7 x 64 and in the middle gray a representation of what is supposed to be the Windows 7 desktop. (see Exhibit 4). When I opened the settings button a window with different setting options pops up. This mark means to me that Windows is installed but the final opening isn't the case

When you quit Vmware Fusion indeed Windows seems to be close (see part 5)

What is going on? What has gone wrong? What should I do? I don't know how to solve the problem.

I should f.i. remove the virtual machine from Windows 7 and is free automatically made partition on my HD as the reboot with the Windows installation disc? or y at - it another way to enter the UNIT?

    Help, please!

    Thanks in advance

Your virtual machine is running. It is in the unit - which each windows gets its own window of Mac - and you have no application Windows running, there is no visible windows. You can start a Windows application in the start of Fusion menu in the menu bar at the top right, or turn on the Windows task bar on the view menu and start applications from there. Or use the view menu to switch to the Single mode or full-screen, which puts all of your Windows desktop in a window separate from Mac.

You do not have two partitions to Boot Camp on your Mac, you have two virtual machines named "Boot Camp partition".

The message about it being unable to enter the unit arrives while the merger is pending for the tools begin to run, because the tool is necessary for the unit.

  • How to activate the Internet connection on Windows Server 2003 is installed in the virtual machine in VMware Workstation 8?

I have Windows Server 2003 is installed on a virtual machine in VMware Workstation 8. I need it to learn and practice the use of the Active Directory. I've also set up 3 Windows XP workstations connect to it, which means that they can communicate with Server 2003. What is lacking is the Internet connection on all of them. When I run ping 8.8.8.8 in one of these virtual machines, I get, 'Destination host unreachable.'

I'm not sure, what if the problem comes from the settings in Windows or the settings of the virtual machine.

    Can someone help me?

Thank you, guys. I was finally able to put in place. It was quite an ordeal to deal with IP addresses and virtual networks. Here's how I did (in the screenshots) in case someone else needs it.

(I also confess that it is perhaps one of the ways to implement. Maybe there is an easier way to do it with DHCP...)

    1. in your computer where is installed VMware Workstation 8 begin the "Virtual Network Editor." It is located in the folder of installation of VMware Workstation. And implement the network following (VMnet2 in my case):

2 then in VMware Workstation itself in the virtual machine when Windows Server 2003 is installed set up two network as connections:

This one is for external access to the Internet:

And this one for intranet communications AD:

    3. then in the machine virtual de Windows Server 2003 set up what follows for two network adapters:

    For Internet access:

Then, you need allow this connection to share:

And then for the ad access to workstations (ensure that the static IP address is in the range specified in the virtual network over VMnet2 network editor). I've also set up DNS to 127.0.0.1 because I installed on this Windows 2003 DNS server:

    4. from the Windows 2003 VM try ping 8.8.8.8. It should work now.

    5. go to each workstation, in my case, Windows XP, each in its own virtual machine and set up the network in the VMware Workstation as follows:

    6. then in the virtual machine, configure the network connection for Windows XP workstation. Don't forget to assign a new static IP address for each workstation, which not coinside with IP of the domain (this IP address must come from the range specified in the virtual network over VMnet2 network editor):

    7. try first ping the domain, in my case ping 192.168.237.128. And then Internet, ping 8.8.8.8. The two should work!

    Continue with steps [5-7].

  • Oracle installed on the virtual machine

    Hello world!

In one of the server, Oracle is installed on a virtual machine.

I have to make a change in the way I set up the file settings or something else to improve performance?

What a difference, is to have the Oracle in the area directly compared to what in the virtual machine?

    Hope to hear some tips.

There is no difference running Oracle in a virtualized environment or on a box. For the performance gain, the same number of steps are necessary as normally are required. Read the guide to performance optimization of Oracle doc site corresponding to your version of db http://tahiti.oracle.com.
