  All addresses is not a real address book. It is a virtual address, a composite of all the books in your real address book and is provided for research purposes. Simply choose address book personal or any that you have used in the past.

  Oh absolutely contacts newly added to show correctly when you're looking for them. Good not tried until now! Let's check out a few things.

  If you use iCloud for contacts, going on iCloud.com and signing, see if the new contacts appear in iCloud. This resource can be useful: get help using iCloud Contacts, calendars, or reminders - Apple Support

  Check the settings > Mail, Contacts, calendar, scroll to the Contacts section and see what is listed as your default account.  This is the account where to save new contacts to.  After checking that, go to the phone application, press Contacts in the middle and then gathers at the top left.  Make sure that all the default account has a check mark next to it, as well as other groups of contact you want.

  Once those who are all checked, see if the new contacts as you type.  If not, also check the settings > general > Spotlight search and make sure Contacts is switched on (green) in this menu, too.

  I hope this helps.  If not, the answer comes back with what accounts allows you to backup and synchronize your contacts.
