If I'm upgrading to an ssd will be my current windows product key book 7?

I recently bought a new ssd to speed up my computer. Will the product key supplied with my PC work? Can I still activate?

Yes, you will need to reactivate by phone as recommend it however:

How to activate Windows 7 manually (activate by phone)

1) click Start and in the search for box type: slui.exe 4

(2) press the ENTER"" key.

(3) select your "country" in the list.

(4) choose the option "activate phone".

(5) stay on the phone (do not select/press all options) and wait for a person to help you with the activation.

(6) explain your problem clearly to the support person.

  • How will I know that my Windows product key is if one on the sticker that is located on the computer does not seem to work?

You want more details. For two hours I answered all the questions that ask you that. And still no support. You up to the date of this laptop, every day at 03:00, so don't tell me the product key, which is on the back of this box is incorrect. Or that it is not the country I say. Just send me what is on the back of this box, which I paid too much for in the first place.

We are not Microsoft. We are volunteers who give of our spare time to help people. Complain about Microsoft is a waste of time. We are in the same boat as you when it comes to most of the problems and not more control or access that you have to do.

A product key is not in the box where everyone can see.  It is a sequence of alphanumeric 25 digit of 5 sets of 5 digits separated by dashes for the operating system.  If this is the original installation, the key will be on a label on the underside of the laptop.  It has been upgraded or purchased as a product of the retail (suggested by saying you that you have a box), then the product key for the product to the retail sales would have been on a piece of paper inside the box.  The product key on the label of the laptop would have been crushed (which would have been in the computer would have been product key from the manufacturer that could not be used to enable or provide proof) by installing the retail or upgrade.  Microsoft has no idea what is your product key regardless of the case - even if you bought them (unless it was by a download and then you should have an email from their share with the product key to this topic).

If this is not a problem of activation or re-installing and that you have installed and activated the product yourself, try of Belarc Advisor http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html and see if the product key, it reveals work best of all what you use now.

  • Pavilion x 2: Windows product key Validation after hardware change (new SSD)

I have a Pavilion laptop x 2 with a 64 GB SSD.  It came with Windows 8.1 but he now works Windows 10 - of course.  I decided to upgrade the 256 GB SSD.  I bought the appropriate module (a Sandisk).  I recently contacted Windows support to inquire about the procedure to validate the OS once I did the material exchange.  I wasn't sure how it would work since my x 2 Pavilion has incorporated into BIOS product key.  Microsoft told me that because I was going to do a hardware change I would need a new product key (in other words my laptop current product key would be 'blocked').  I was able to recover the product key of my Pavilion x 2 (OEM and installed keys - what is the difference?).

Does anyone have experience in this field?  Once I have replace the SSD and perform a clean install Windows 10, will be the key to product embedded BIOS validate operating system or it will reject?  Since I'm NOT buying a HP SSD (with preloaded operating system) and that my x 2 Pavilion is now long out of warranty?  I really have to pay over a hundred dollars for a new Windows operating system license?

Thanks in advance for any advice/help.

    Francis

Parameters indicate that I have a digital right so with a bit of luck when I change the SSD and install Windows 10, the machine must validate without a qualm.  I tried to see if I could link my Validation of my Microsoft account but I did not have this option on my settings (although in the past when I re-install Windows 10, link validation of my Microsoft account operating system so I guess it works.)  Also, I guess I have the anniversary edition from my machine updated automatically.

If all else fails, I'll see how it goes after the SSD upgrade and if I have to deal with Microsoft.  I also agree with you that change the SSD (essentially the ' drive') is NOT a significant change in equipment and shall not impose a new product key, but then, nothing surprises me more.

Your tips were helpful and I thank you.

  • Installation of upgrade or clean! Can I get a replacement product key?

I bought an upgrade to vista for my pc after that I tried to reformat from the original disc that came with the pc. My pc says that the"NTLDR is compressed" I tried many suggestions but nothing worked I learned that I needed to upgrade. I installed the update from XP to vista, but now it says that my product key is not valid, because it isn't an upgrade a clean install. I was not asked what kind of facility, I held at the beginning of the installation.

    Can anyone help?

If the system does not detect an operating system (as for a startup problem), he made a clean installation - if an upgrade was possible, he would have given you this option (there not because he has not seen this option).

You must reiinstall the operating system of origin and then activate, then install the upgrade and then enable that.  That you run under Vista.  You cannot use an upgrade disk to do a full install - it willl allow you to do, but it will not activate the product.

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!

  • Upgrade Vista Basic Vista Home Premium with the old product key.

When I bought my laptop, it came with Vista Home Premium installed. I had to wipe my HD and reinstalled Vista using the diskette provided me by Dell, but the version they gave me was Vista Home Basic. Is there a way to upgrade to Home Premium with pay them for it because I bought the license when I first bought my computer?

Contact Dell on them giving you the wrong recovery disk...

Or borrow a good Microsoft Vista DVD (not Dell, HP, etc).
A good Vista DVD contains all versions of Vista.
The product key determines which version of Vista is installed.

There are 2 disks of Vista: one for 32-bit operating system, and one for 64-bit operating system.

If install a cleaning is required with a good DVD of Vista (not HP, Dell recovery disks):

Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu

  • HP Envy 15-q: I have to disable my Windows product key before moving on to the SSD? (New beginning)

Was thinking of switching 5400 RPM for the SSD because I feel its too slow way. I was wondering if I need to disable my Windows 10 key before making a new start?

    CasualRisk

    Hello;

Let me welcome you on the HP forums!

I read your post on your question of activation of Win10 and wanted to help.

In Win10, the product key is stored in the motherboard UEFI firmware.  Because you're not change that, you risk to disable.

In addition, the activation key is stored on servers for Activation of MS, and that information are NOT linked to the HARD or SDD drive you are using.  I can say this because once I got Win10 works as I wanted, I migrated there a disk HARD of a DDI and nothing has changed - except the performance is much improved!

    Good luck

  • How will I know if a product key for xp has been activated yet

Hi I recently bought a copy of windows xp pro and what he was going to install on my laptop that I'm on vista, it is an authentic copy from what I understand, but before starting the installation, I need to know if the product key has been activated yet, is it possible to tell? Thank you all

Simply call Microsoft on the toll free number: 1800-936-5700.

Give them the product key, and they will tell you if it has been used for activation aldready and if it has been blocked.

Also give them the part number of the Windows XP disk and they will tell you if what drive it is. (OEM, retail). and they can also tell you if the product key will match and work with the disk.

Do that before you start the installation, train them if the disk and product key do not match, you will be stuck.

  • How will I know if a product key is still valid?

I bought a windows 7 and wanted to know if the product key is valid.

If you bought on eBay or an affiliate of Amazon Marketplace, return it.  Most copies of Windows 7 for sale on eBay are fakes.  These are most of the copies very reduced on different websites around the internet.

  • How will I know that my product key is if I can't read the label

I need to clean and reload Windows XP Home Edition on my netbook because of spyware and viruses., but I can't read the product key on the label

because it is worn off the coast or rub off from sweat or use. Is there a way to find this key else where?

Which might be good now that you mention it!

Mike - contact your manufacturer!  No your netbook came with an XP installation CD authentic?

It can also have a built recovery partition that would set your system to an out of the box condition.

  • Windows activation - new hard drive and reinstalled Windows, but will not work with the product key

    Hi all

My hard drive died so I put a new in and installed Windows on a drive, but when I have just activated and put my product key does not work. In fact, I get this day by putting in and then it says character not aloud.

Please can someone help? All I've done is put a new hard drive in but guess that Windows detects that the product key has been used on the old, which explains why it won't work on the new. What should I do to activate the key?

    Thank you

Thanks a lot for your useful replies. I've got in contact with Microsoft and they gave me a key and it worked!

    Thank you

  • Do I need a product key after that I will be upgrading my Windows 7 Home Basic to Windows 7 Home Premium using Windows Anytime Upgrade?

I am running Windows 7 Home Basic Edition on Dell Inspiron 660 s and want to update my version of Windows to Windows 7 Home Premium and then to Windows 7 Ultimate using Windows Anytime Upgrade.I'm confused that when I will enter the Windows Anytime Upgrade key, do I need to enter after my Windows product key updated?
Another question which gives me a voltage, it is that I lose all my data on the hard drive, after that I will be upgrading my Windows?
    Looking forward to your response.

There is no Windows 7 Home Basic to Windows 7 Ultimate Anytime Upgrade package.

You have either buy an upgrade level or full version Windows 7 Ultimate retail package and use the product key as well as the Express in Windows 7 Home Edition Upgrade Wizard basic upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate.

If you use the upgrade wizard level Express with a touch of detail, your personal files, settings and installed applications will be kept.
