IM in Firefox on Windows and every time I turn off my concection my Firefox home page internet loses its settings.

I have reset Firefox several times but each time I have shut down my computer or disable the internet connection, the problem recurs. When I open Firefox, the search bar on the upper right side of the screen has Amazon.co.uk and the Firefox search bar in the middle of the screen has no search engine and Im unable to use it for research.

I typed in browser.search.defaultenginename

 and it found

Browser.Search.defaultenginename; Google

Browser.Search.defaultenginename, S; Google

SweetIM. ToolBar.Previous.Browser.Search.defaultenginename; Google

I changed all 3 to Google and now everything works fine. Thank you for your help

  • Proxy server in Win 8.1 automates on every time I turn off

    Hello

My laptop is new today, my WiFi network is open but I can't access the internet. My Proxy Server automatically turns on, I turn it off and I'll be back on the internet, when I surfed on my proxy server is back on the next page. My software installs to date have been, office 2013 (online installation), the Cavs Karaoke Player (online installation), the VLC media player (online installation) and you Tube Downloader (online installation). All programs were on my previous laptop Win 7 without the drama.

If someone could advise on how to disable this proxy server, HP support by phone will be my next call.

I found a solution on Microsoft, I performed a clean boot and removed a (supposed) free cloud based backup utility (provided with the hp preinstalled software, so boring) start-up program and problem is now solved.

    Hello

Click Start > right click on computer > left click on properties > see if you have Vista 32 bit or Vista 64-bit installed.

It will also tell you here what Service Packs, if any, are already installed.

Then, choose the download of 'bit' OK to use to install Service Packs, first of all the installation of SP1.

    Vista SP1 32-bit (x 86): http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30

    Vista SP1 64-bit: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=21299

Attempt to delete pictures in my pictures and every time you send to trash, it makes a duplicate copy.  How can I remove it without the computer by creating all these copies.  Pls help.  TKS.

    original title: remove duplicate photos

Unwanted copies have file names with
    copy "prefix of"?

    Example: Copy of IMG_1455.JPG

If_yes_maybe the following tutorial, I wrote
for XP offers a few ideas:

Here's how to reproduce the unwanted
    copy of...

Hold down your CTRL key and select multiple files...

Place your pointer over the selected group
(holding the key ctrl) and left click / drag
the group even just the slightest bit... now
    release the mouse button.

    Oooops... multiple copies...

    Maybe the following will help:

Sometimes most of the person who
trying to select multiple by holding the CTRL
or the SHIFT key down while clicking on the left to select the
    image files.

Copies are created when you are unable to
completely release the mouse button before
you move the pointer to another file. When a group
the selected file is dragged... even the slightest
release the mouse button will produce a bit...
copies of all the files previously highlighted.

It's a little easier if you have your folder
Options set at single click... that way you can
select/deselect a file with just a mouse more
and you don't have to click. For multiples you
I have to keep... CTRL or Shift.

Do not click on... no slip... no copy... maybe that of
your solution. To adjust the click...
Open a folder and go... Tools / folder
Options / General tab... Check... 'single click '.
To open an item"/ apply / OK.

If you want to delete all the files in a folder
    You can try the following:

Reach... Edition / select all... or type... CTRL / has...

With all of the files selected... go... Drop / delete...
or press your delete key... or... click on the
    Group and choose 'delete '.

How do I find and remove unwanted 'copies '.
    of your image files.

Open the folder that the images are saved in and
on the left, click on the button 'Search' in your toolbar.

(If you view the files from a montage
program and do not know where the record is... right
Click on one of the image files and the menu...
choose... Properties. The path to the folder will be
in the tab 'General' to 'Place').

In the research pane select... "All files and folders".

In the "All or part of the file name" field. Come in...

    a copy of

Now... on the left, click on the search"" button.

When the search is complete... go to... Edition / select all...

Then go to... Remove / delete.

You will see a dialog box asking if you are sure
you want to delete the files, click Yes.

Now... on the left, click on the 'Back' button in your toolbar.

Now the remaining files should be your originals.

If you delete the wrong files... recover from
    your basket now.

my computer wouldn't let me download lime wire... and every time I try a security alert appears.

    Hi juannfallen,

Welcome to the Microsoft community newsgroups. I suggest you try these options:

The question can be caused also by your security program such an antivirus or a firewall of Windows /Defender that can have conflicting parameters as to not not to perform certain tasks. I suggest you temporary disable antivirus and firewall and check the result again. You must activate new security that you was disabled programs.

For more information, visit the Microsoft Web sites at the following address and check if the Windows or Windows Defender firewall is causing this problem. It is suggested to make changes and to allow certain applications to run through these by the use of exceptions rather than turn them which can cause serious problems for the security of the computer:

1 explore the features: Windows Firewall

    2. turn Windows Firewall on or off

    3. Understanding Windows Firewall settings

4 explore the features: Windows Security Center

    5. using Windows Defender

    6. turn Windows Defender on or off

7 Windows Vista: antispyware software - Microsoft Security

8 real-time protection real turn Windows Defender or disable

If the problem persists, return with the following details:

1: name of the security of the software

    2: exact security alert

Let me know if it works. Good luck!

    Hope this information is useful.

    Thank you and best regards,

    KKS Vijay
