iMac boot

My Imac will boot 50% was last started.  Screen is white with the apple logo begins to start, gets about 50% through the commissioning of the Black goes and seems to stop.   This all started when I started to install again the dates.

Thank you, Jesse

When it starts up - you can press Cmd + R - and boot into safe mode?

If so - then run disk utility and first aid and see if something turns out to be the cause

  • How fast your imac boots?

    Hi guys!

Just interested in how fast your iMac boots (as the minutes and seconds) until your first open application is fully sensitive? I end 2013 iMac 21.5 "2.7 GHz intel core i5, 8 GB of RAM, running El Capitan and it feels long enough. Also after the commissioning of the applications such as Chrome and utorrent open very slowly. After that, everything works fine.

I am curious and just started my Mac, a little old 21.5 inches mid-2010 i - Mac. I was curious because she feels slow to start sometimes, however, I was pleasantly surprised with the Dell laptop, my employer has provided me with (but it is bogged down with a lot of security software). The Mac has a 3.06 GHz core i3, 12 GB of RAM and runs OS X 10.11.6. It is a standard unit of an Apple store close to November 2010.  It took 88 seconds to load the office then another 8 seconds to load a web page. Then I opened the mail and I was 1 min 43 seconds by the mail of synchronized time. It doesn't have a HD 7200 RPM, which helps, but an SSD would be probably faster (I thought to start from an external SSD but the processor is getting pretty old, I can be close to need/want of a new machine). The Dell takes a little more than twice as long. Up to what speed (slow?) your machine starts?

  • iMac, boots on the desk and then immediately crashes on the color wheel

Thanks for taking a peek at my question.

When I boot my iMac, everything starts up fine in the beginning - he's going right on the desktop, the mouse moves around and, if I'm quick, I can even click on 1 maybe 2 things until the computer completely locks the spinning wheel of death color.  I can still move the wheel on the screen with no latency, but I can't do anything in fact.  Typing on the keyboard does nothing, although the caps lock key will light up.  Boot in safe mode produces exactly the same results, except that it asks me to log in first.

Something must be start I need to get rid of, although I not much to install on this computer and rarely changes (it is a demo machine that lives in a small computer lab that I managed, off-grid). I never had any problems with it, then one day, this problem started.  Maybe I ran an update of the OS and that caused his crash?

I am very familiar with troubleshooting a Windows computer, but Mac does not really offer many intuitive troubleshooting options, IMO.  This seems to be a fairly simple matter to reslolve, but my research online have not produced results - people seem to suggest the safe mode and command line solutions, but safe mode doesn't change anything and I can obviously not open a command line to type anything.

The iMac was bought to 2010 and I'm 99% sure there Yosemite installed, but unfortunately I have no way to be able to check at the moment.

    Any help welcome, thanks!

Start of recovery volume (command - R on a restart, or hold down the option/Alt during a restart and select the Volume of recovery). Run the check/repair disk utility and repair permissions until you get no error. Then re-install the operating system.

  • iMac boot and graphics board malfunction

Some time after the latest updates my iMac early 2009 (now declared obsolete) refuses to restart.

At startup, the screen showed several neatly arranged the vertical yellow lines. Arriving halfway through the loading with the Apple logo bar it will turn to a good white screen and stop start.

I tried all combinations of keys start and initially the only work was the Terminal and secure boot (with shift). Once he passes to halfway to the loadingscreen yellow lines are four major who will remain in yellow on a white background and turns deep blue on a black background. Except for the lines, everything works normally. On restart however the problem comes back: not a normal startup.

After a while the recovery itself made a recovery (cmd + R). I tried safe formatting of the disk and reinstall a fresh MacOS, but also without success.

Diagnosis does not start (in re or option + D), so I can't do a system health check...

Overall: If a start Diggin ' a pit for my iMac, or someone at - it other ideas to try?

Fix the GPU or replacing is expensive. It will cost you about half the cost of the iMac new lowest price. A grave would be a good thing for her, unless you want to try to fix it yourself.

    9. -Recovery at inoperative startup procedure.

    Issues related to the:

    • What drives me GEN it pour out of this impasse (USB2, Thunderbolt) preferably available France
    • What alternatives do I have?

    -An attempt to translation-

    1. I can't use the latest version of the app EtreCheck (crash)
    2. I can't read/copy/past utility used to Apple on the system details.
    3. I have on my iMac 12.2 (see my Apple hardware, if you can) 3 different partitions, 1 only on the SSD drive that contain the system disordered with probably not enough free space.
    4. No matter what backup process Time machine on a Time capsule (3) ends (or needs more of a week)

    10. Same thing with starting secure, or new admin account...
    11. But I have no malware, for the moment. but had one before. Don't remember his name.

In this case, my questions are:

    • How to find a cleaning method in order to make a sort of cleaning and installation safe and successful if possible, without losing my data partitions

    • Large hard drive you can advise me to buy (able to boot) USB2/USB3 or Thunderbold... SDS are are too expensive, unfortunately.

One more thing... (lol) I have a Macbook Pro already on El Capitan with no use of the iMac to MacBook Pro Migration Tools

  • Fusion drive: files on HDD or SSD?

    Hello

I added an SSD for my iMac mid-2011 (12.2) and "merged" into a fusion drive. iMac, boots in 20 seconds, instead of 4 minutes or more. Safari, mail etc work very quickly, so drive merger works well. BUT for example InDesign CS 6 works always 'normally', so he has not transferred to the SSD, which (as I read on the internet) is supposed to happen with programs that are widely used.

I've had the drive of fusion for 2 weeks now: whatever it is maybe wrong or I just wait the programs often used to switch the SSD? Is there someone who can shed some light on this?

What do you mean by "merged"? You use CoreStorage commands to create a real fusion drive.

  • Boot camp install Win 7 on iMac 27 "(ultimo 2009)"

    Hello

I am experiencing a problem installing Win 7 on my iMac 27 "(ultimo 2009)." I got this version installed two years without a problem, but now it concerns me.

When you create the partition, bootcamp and starting from the Win 7 DVD I am able to install it without problem. When the PC reboots after you download windows support on my USB, install windows and is about to start Windows for the first time, it freezes and the screen is all black.

I read on the support site you need to create and image of the Win 7 dvd which should be used in conjunction with boot camp, but I can't choose this option (it simply is not here) "disk image", when using boot camp.

    So what to do?

  • 8.1 Windows via Boot Camp on El Capitan, iMac mid 2011

I am desperately trying for a while now to do an installation of bootcamp Windows 8.1 on my iMac 2011 mid 21.5 ' with El Capitan.

Many solutions exist for the older iMac like mine, but nothing seems to work for me. I have already applied the BCA 'hack' to edit the info.plist to make the option to generate a setup available disk, I also tried the 'old fashioned' way of installing via burn the iso image to a dvd.

I already tried several USB sticks (8 and 32 GB).

The result is always the same: "no boot device found; "Insert one and press any".

If theres no suggestion on how to get windows on my Mac, I would be really happy. I don't mind which way, as mentioned previously, I still have an internal optical drive.

    Concerning

You cannot use a USB on Mac 2011 Installer. A physical DVD will work. If the Microsoft ISO is not burned properly, it will not start.

Please describe the method that you used to create the DVD ISO.

  • If I install 10.11.6 on my iMac I will be able to boot from an external hard drive with and OS earlier?

If I install 10.11.6 on my iMac (model identifier: iMac12, 2 name of the processor: Intel Core i5 speed processor: 3.1 GHz)

will I be able to boot from a drive external firewire with and the older operating system? Or El Capitan will not allow this as I said can occur. Can't risk a "pourrait".

    Thank you

There should be no problem. Your iMac is come with Snow Leopard as well as or any subsequent OS should work. Note however, that once started from SL, your interior with El Capitan would be is no longer recognized as a boot device in the preferences > startup disk because Snow Leopard does not have logical volume by car Group organization. You need to restart with the Option key pressed down, calling the Boot Manager.

If you have problems, you might consider to make the connection via the USB port.

  • My iMac can boot from an external drive?

    Hello

I have an iMac 21.5 "Mid 2010 which starts to show its age with slowness. However, I plan to upgrade the Basic 4 GB of Ram either 8 GB or 16 GB of Ram, depending on price... and my main question.  I know that the Mac came initially with a 500 GB hard drive and I would also like to upgrade to an SSD because they make a world of difference from what I've heard, but I don't have the level of skill tech to do the steps together 20-30. I wonder, as I have a 1 TB USB SSD externally, if I could install a new version of Mac OS X on the SSD USB and then set it as my boot drive and just keep still plugged. Would this work or startup disk must be internal rather than external via USB?

Your iMac can be set to boot from an external drive. Just install OS X on the SSD and SSD drive as your boot disk in System-> startup disk Preferences.

  • Windows 10 free update (until July 29, 2016) for Boot Camp on end of 2015 iMac?

    Hello

Today, I noticed that this free update of Windows 10 is available until July 29, 2016.

I didn't need to date, but will probably have to Windows soon.

Is it possible to install this upgrade for my new iMac (retina 5K, 27 inches, end of 2015)?

I learned that I can install only 10 Windows with Boot Camp, but none of the previous versions.

I have a full version of Windows 7 Home Premium (DVD set & key)

and later I bought an upgrade of Windows 8 pro (download and key).

This help and how would it use?

I never had the Boot Camp on this iMac.

For now, I download the ISO from here.

    Thank you very much.

If you are running OS 10.11 then Windows 7 is no longer an option to install through bootcamp. MS stopped support of the operating system, and therefore Apple.

If you don't install window 10 by July 29 deadline you don't perhaps more power get it for free or to install on any device for free even if you downloaded and saved before that time. Windows 10 must be installed, so it can bind to a system configuration and report this configuration for Member States qualify for free use. After that this time, he has not stated by MS so the program will remain free or will be a purchase (once or monthly) MS said they will not charge for Windows 10, if it was installed before that deadline, the exceptions are 10 Windows for the use of the company.

If you want to use a version of Windows on a Mac before winning 10 eye in VMWare or Parallels for Mac, or a previous instance of Mac OS X, where the old versions are supported under bootcamp.

    An urgent need to help!

I've been running Windows 10 on my iMac via Boot Camp. I just upgraded to El Capitan 10.11 to 10.11.5. Command-r does not work on a 10.6.8 system, you would need 10.7 Lion or better to do. If you try to install a new system and that you have already downloaded, then go to your Applications folder and double-click "install OS X...". »
