IMac drive

What is the difference between the hard drive and the fusion drive on a 27 inch I Mac

The fuser unit is a combination of a hard and a flash drive in one volume, with files that are accessible are more often on the flash drive.

My 27 "mid 2011 iMac drive solid state drive is dead and must be replaced. The SSD originally came with the computer and not a subsequent update. I understand that a SSD replacing a HARD drive is quite complex, but would be more simple replacement of a dead with a new SSD SSD? I hope I could make myself.

Even as the replacement of a HARD drive. However, go to OWC buy the connector of the special drive that has the necessary temperature control that is not part of the SSD, because it is for the stock of HARD drive.

  • Use iMac drive HARD internal for storage only.

I initialize my iMac to an external SSD. It makes my computer run faster. How can I completely wipe the drive HARD internal of my iMac and use it as a storage only?

This isn't a big problem, except one. Apple does not support this method as a permanent solution. However, you have an iMac of 2012. I have a Mac Mini from 2012. I used a 1 to LaCie Thunderbolt Rugged HD to do this thing very via the Thunderbolt port. It worked very well for a while. Personally, I started my primary internal HD for OS X and the LaCie Thunderbolt as external storage. For reasons of registration and so on. Recovery of the Internet, as well. I have not found any major difference in the "boot speed" between internal or external HD. I upgraded the RAM of 4 GB to 16 GB all. and BAM!

My HD Thunderbolt is partitioned as a time Capsule (1st partition bootable) and Mac Storage (2nd partition). The choice is yours, of course.

    Bravo!

  • The boot on my iMac drive is full for the docking station does not,.

My boot drive is full, so will not show the dock, I can't see the files to delete and make more space. Safari works well, and the files on the drop down menu Apple I have opened recently, always open, so I don't think that the iMac is broken - full. How can I get files to delete and make more room?

Start safe mode and delete or move files and applications is no longer, you need or use ff of the drive up you jave enough space. DO NOT delete system files or you could end up with a very unstable system. You can move large libraries like your music, pictures and videos on an external drive.

  • Merger of iMac Drive need defrag?

    Hello

I have a question for a long time I use windows and os x, and when I was on windows I analyze my hard and when I delete a large file I see Create a lot of distance between the files, so that was delay to read some files and use the defragmentation and which is really helping quick access my files and less pressure on my hard drive

There's my basic question ' Mac think about it? How? " because there is no program for mac except IDefrag, which is not yet in the App Store

    Thanks for listening

Defragmentation or erase free space accomplishes nothing. Apple moved space disk on the fly, so that all the big files are overwritten and the smallest are copied during the first. It may even be dangerous to do any of these procedures on an SSD.

  • Migrating to SATA drive to iMac

Four days ago my MacPro (2010) died. I have four 3 "SATA drives from 1 to 2 to each of Mac Pro. The computer was for business and personal use. Absolutely everything (including financial information) I have is on these four discs, including redundant copies of some files, but also my Time Machine backup.

I will have an envelope coming tomorrow which is a RAID box but will be executed in the independent drive with four drives Mode. My 'new' computer is an iMac (2013), that was given to me.  The iMac and the main SATA drive running the same version of the operating system. I need to resolve this issue quickly so I can return to work. In the immediate future, I intend to operate out of the primary SATA drive to catch up, and then transfer when I'll have a good time to transfer.

My question is the best way to get the entire contents of the primary SATA drive on the iMac's hard drive. I want everything that is on the main SATA drive to put to be on the iMac (including the prefs and hidden folders) of Mac Pro and it would be the same when I booted the Mac Pro.

Can I use migration utility, clone the drive SATA main to the iMac or even use the Time Machine backup?

If I clone the drive, I know that I would have to boot from one disk other than the iMac drive to clone to the iMac. When the primary SATA drive is attached, I need to boot from it by holding down the option key at startup key to select the startup disk.

If I use the Migration utility, it seems I start the iMac, and then run the utility to the iMac of the SATA drive range, which would be connected to the iMac. This would replace all the information on the iMac even though it was the boot drive?

I printed the information on the Migration of Apple Mac help when transferring to another storage device, but it's not quite clear to me.

  • My imac (El Capitan 10.11.6 - 2 Terabyts) complete and FCPX disk will not work. I moved a few fcpxbundles library to an external hard drive (seagate 2 trabyte) and erased from the iMac. NowFCPX said that missing data as effects therefore can not shar

Help!  My FCPX (v - 10.2.3) does not work because my iMac drive is full (iMac 21.5 inch has 2 terabyte w / v OS El Capitan 10.11.6) I had tried to free up space by moving tons of files on a usb disk Seagate (2 terabyte) speedboat that barely made a dent. then on the advice of a friend I found (in movies) a file called Final Cut backups. There were 4 files with extension, ".fcpbundle" I have three of them moved to another drive to Seagate usb - they had 2.82 GB, 21.6 GB and GB 68,21 that I thought should be enough and them removed from my iMac drive - bad! It says I have only 13.46 GB free on my 2 terabyte iMac total!

The fourth fcpbundle it's TB 1.72! But before leaving that I returned and opened FCPX and found the warning triangle around my library... While my last project looked OK I couldn't / the share of exports because the pop-up says FCPX has no data for efx etc (the media looked at and display fine) and cannot be taken out.

FCPX can work with the "beams" moved to another drive? How the detectable in a new place? Or how to put them back?
How can I make sure that future packages clutter my iMac again?

Do I need a RAID disks? If yes which?

I found other folders in folders 'Make files' and records backup for projects with the .fcpbundle inside files

How can I get this sucker working again?... and what should I do to keep him from doing the same thing in the future?

    Thank you

    John

The backup files are only the database files (no media) and must be low, not gigabytes, do not know what is happening there.

Media libraries stored in the bundle of FCP X library or stored outside?

If stored at the breast, called managed media, simply copy and paste the library to a different location.

Make sure that library books newly located correctly before you remove what either.

Perhaps check your settings of the library.

Click the library icon in the browser and it appears in the Inspector:

By clicking on change settings shows this:

Move the mouse over the media and it will reveal the path where things are sent.

Then you might be able to track down what goes where.

From you description, it seems that most of the media files and rendered is not be moved successfully.

Some screenshots would be useful if you can't find where stuff is.

  • PSE 8 fails to run on the new drive hard iMac after Time Machine backup

I had to have my iMac drive replaced the week last in the replacement of the Apple program. After installing the new drive, I restored the whole Machine on the new drive Time backup. Most things work perfectly, but I get an error message when I try to run PSE 8. The error is 150:30 of error indicating "license has stopped working". I tried a number of things to correct this as described in http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/error-licensing-stopped-mac-os.html, but found that most of the FlexNet referring to article data does not exist on my machine, so I am unable to complete the recommended steps (I did the hidden files visible). Also the Flexnet files do not appear on the backup volume. When I try to reload the software with the original disks I have just the player to make some noise and then eject it. All the other CD/DVD to work as usual. Very welcome ideas

  • Back to my mac: get the files from hard drive

Background: I tried to copy files from an external hard drive to iCloud. I didn't have no idea of back to my Mac has been verified (or even existed). When I dragged the files to iCloud it copied but it fills my iMac's hard drive. I need this 70 GB of available disk space.

I disabled the back to my Mac and free memory in the iMac icon box is up GB 0.01 every 15 minutes. At this rate, I'll get an answer to this question before I know if it is significant or not.

Question: Where are these files on my iMac drive? Are these files on my iMac drive? I can not find them. If they are there, they disappear or I have their garbage?

    Thank you.

If their trash, they will be deleted to iCloud. Check your document mobile/library username.

Go to Finder and select your user folder. With this Finder window as the windshield, select Finder/display/display options for presenting or order - J.  When the display options opens, check "show the library folder. This should make your visible user library folder in your user folder.  Select the library.

I have my LR catalog on an external drive. My boot on my iMac drive recently crashed and I had to completely reinstall El Capitan from scratch. I moved from LR preferences to the new installation of El Capitan and then open LR. I got this error message:

"The Lightroom catalog cannot be used because the parent folder" / Volumes/Master/Lightroom "does not allow the files contained in it." "

I guess it's a permissions problem that occurred when I reinstalled the OS X on my iMac, but I don't know how to fix it?

I can open more cd drives in my Win XP commentsapplications instead they appear in the host. I was trying to backup Quicken in the comments on a cd as I've always done on the cd rom drivedrive D, but kept to error message "Please choose another location. This drive is read-only. When I put in a new blank disc, my host found iMac drive instead - a popup window said that I inserted a blank disc and he asked me what I wanted to do with him (open I-Tunes, etc.). When I went on the D drive in my computer and double click on the D drive icon, it says: "Please insert a disc into drive D" if she does not see the blank disc that was still in the drive. Instead, I found the icon of blank disk on the desktop of the host and may open in the host. So it seems that the cd rom in the guest drive is be outstripped by the host. I tried to uninstall the cd rom drive in the comments Device Manager and rebooted the prompt. He finds the "new hardware" and reinstalled the drive, but I still having the same problem accessing it. • DVD Studio Pro DVD "supported disc not available".

    Hello Forum,

I am trying to burn a DVD again an already existing DVD Studio, already registered and created the file pro with all the menus related to the video file.  Another company created the DVD Studio pro menu and queue in front of me, I replace the newly edited video and try to burn a DVD with the new video and audio files.

I compressed the file Compressor 3.5 using the button create DVD in the compressor, I created a file DVD SD Mpeg2, audio and video.  Imported in the pro Studio already created DVD file, I have the burned DVD, but appears to "Support disc not available" when I try to play the DVD on my Imac drive (also not tried in a standard DVD player no chance)... I tried this twice now, the first time that I realized I had created a HD DVD, I also created a separate folder on the external drive as well.  When I click on the DVD that was burned it shows as: HVDVD_TS and no audio file.

Can you please help me, I watched the video of youtube after another, but I'm not create from scratch, I know not at all unfortunately the program, but I use a DVD already created Studio, file with many menus already linked to the video and don't want to not recreate from scratch... I think this should not be so difficult, and definitely miss me something.

Thank you very much for your help!

  • Photo library becomes corrupted transferring to NTFS?

My iMac has been slow, so I decided to clear some memory.  I bought a Toshiba 1 TB hard drive, and the file format is NTFS.  I had to use the Tuxera NTFS converter to be able to copy files...  So I basically copied all my files on the hard disk without problem (including the photo library).  After that all copies were complete, I've completely cleaned of my hard drive and reinstalled Mac OS x iMac.  And my library of Photos on the hard drive.  When I tried to open the pictures library, that's when I realized that NTFS is not compatible for applications such as the library of Photos Mac...

My general question is photo library become corrupted when converted to NTFS?  All my photos are now on the NTFS hard drive, and I don't know if I'll be able to convert it to the Format HFS + Mac on my iMac drive... (Without losing my precious photos)?  Would the software (Tuxera) corrupt Library of Photos when converting to NTFS hard disk format?  I'll be able to convert in HFS + without problem?

    Yes

The photo library must only be on a volume formatted Mac OS extended (logged) - any other format does not work

You might or might not be able to copy it to the correct format - if you're lucky, it will work, but he can't - put the library on an inclrredcly format drive can corrupt permanently

as for support to Tuxera or other third party software, that you will need to contact their support team-, which means no pictures somehow
