iMac is painfully slow startup

It is has been a problem for a while, but seems to have slightly worsened with El Capitan. After start-up or a restart, it is a good 6-8 minutes - without exaggeration - until my computer can begin to open programs without huge lag. About 10 minutes until it is at full speed.
iMac (27 inch, end of 2013), 3.4 GHz Intel Core i5, 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Any ideas, or is this normal? I repaired disk permissions, flushed trash and generally keep the machine running as clean as possible without being an expert.

It is not normal, not even remotely.
Backup everything then check your hard drive. Slow start ups can be a symptom of a failing drive.

There are a few things you can try to improve the speed of your A40 - I guess you're talking about the speed (or lack thereof!) to which your laptop seems to be tasks such as opening new windows, programs etc.?
The first thing to do is to look at the list of all programs start; Uninstall anything you don't need really or use is a good way of clutches back disk space (Windows uses hard disk as 'virtual memory' space to supplement the RAM mounted inside).
The next thing to do is look at what programs are started in the background when you start Windows. To do this, click Start, then run and type msconfig. In the window that opens, click on the start right tab and you will see a drop-down list of all the programs that start with Windows. Without recognition program names, it may be best to leave them because they can be processes required by Windows. Uncheck all the programs you want to start automatically the next time you turn on the computer. When you are done, click on save and you will be prompted to restart the A40 for the changes to take effect.
It is perhaps that a new installation of Windows is needed to delete all the temporary files and the old registry entries that have accumulated to over time, in which case backup all your data before running the recovery disc.
One last thing to consider is the weather you may qualify for an upgrade memory HDD largest capacity, which are both reasonably good solutions worked for a slow running computer.

Webcam Live mail 2011 slow startup
Since the upgrade to windows live essentials 2011 I'm having a lot of problems with the direct mail and messenger, start up times are very long 2-3 minutes before programs start up, no problem, but when the program began, but it works correctly.
The computer is clean and free of viruses, Trojan horses, spyware, etc.
I uninstalled live essentials and cleaned prior to relocation and have also option I tried to fix it but the slow startup problem still remains.
Anti virus that is used is to combine with antimalwarebytes Kapersky.
Vista sp2, ram 4 GB, amd 64 dual operating system.
No other problems with other software
Live icon in the lower right corner turns on immediately, but then the system hangs for 2-3 minutes before the start of the program, thought that it may be to do with the live sign in so disabled that but no difference.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, otherwise I'll try to go back to a previous version of live mail if possible.

Please go to start and Panel and Windows updates
On the top left click on change settings update.
Switch to never look for updates,
After the above, restart your machine.
After reboot see if these updates are installed if not install it.

The question is more exacerbated when spotting, how it is almost impossible to do the work.
Yes, it's a drawback known spot removal/adjustment Brush tool, if you do a lot of spotting or adjustment of brush, Lightroom slows down.
Some things you can try
- If Lightroom 6 or Lightroom CC, disable the GPU acceleration
- Do all your spot healing/brushing as the next ╔diter last step
- The final stage of editing, turn on the calibration of the lens (if desired)
- Get a faster processor
If none of that works, make room and healing brush in Photoshop or Photoshop Elements.
NOTICE: I speak for myself only (and certainly not for Adobe, I have does not work and never worked for), but this non-destructive editing technology they built in Lightroom is a fantastic technology. except in the case where you do a lot of brushing or healing spot, in which case the technology requires have a lot more power than most computers, and so for a lot of brushing or healing spot, technology fails.

Have you tried to reboot the machine.
otherwise try to disable the GPU in the Lightroom preferences.
Go to the menu of Lightroom
Click on Preferences
Go to the performance tab
Uncheck the GPU
Restart the Lightroom.

AE painfully slow and prone to crashes
Despite a new computer powerful legacy is painfully slow and prone to accidents, often with 'sorry' messages about this duty planting now. some tips to make it faster and more stable? 8 GB of RAM could be considered "a bit high" for Windows if you are just in MS Word or Internet Explorer, but for the AE, you're barely satisfying the minimum requirements. I have 48 GB and it's barely enough for draft resolutions (4K) more complicated or higher.

Try to reduce the RAM reserved for other applications (preferences > memory & multiprocessing > RAM for other applications), using an SSD for your OS/programs and using an SSD for your caches.

iMac became very slow and unresponsive

I have an iMac which, in the last two days, suddenly became unusably slow. Almost every click brings up the spinning beachball even just after a reboot. iTunes cannot play a melody without pausing every minute or two. Same Safari is really slow, so I have still not tried more demanding such as Lightroom.
Its an iMac mid 2010, 8 GB RAM, 1 TB HD with 305 GB free. Im running El captain, 10.11.6
Any ideas what could be causing this or what I could do to remedy the situation? IM thinking I have to go through the pain of wiping the hard drive and reinstall everything. But I'd really rather avoid because I was planning on getting a new iMac when they release then them and I don't want to go through all that process again.
I hope someone has an idea of something I could try before doing this?

2011 27 "iMac running very slow - please help
Hello, I know it's an old computer, but it makes no sense as to why it is slow. When I got it, it was fast as lightning, now he struggles to keep Chrome and Photoshop open at the same time. I have reset the PRAM and SMC a couple of times, no results. The fans do not run particularly fast, and it's never really too hot. It's very slow start as well, and most of the time that I hesitate to open anything at startup for 5-10 minutes for fear of this gel horribly.

iMac running ridiculously slow
Everything on my iMac 2012/2013 is slow stupid. To start, the opening of applications, new windows/tabs and same type is delayed.
I tried a few cleaners free antivirus with nothing as a problem and no help.
Help / a decent (willing to pay) antivirus recommendation would be very appreciated!
You might have a little worn on the RAM sticks. Either replace them or get an upgrade. I had the same problem with my iMac to mid-2011 and it has 4 GB of ram I upgraded to 12 GB and it works perfectly now.

Any imac still crashes at startup
I have just recived an OBS iMac (20-inch early 2008). It has never been connected to the internet, so it has never been updated. The hard disk is almost full, and it was constantly freezing upwards. After the previous owner bought a new computer, they gave the old one to me. I was counting on factory reset it, but when I push the power button it seems to freeze instantly after hearing the chime. Occasionally, he displays the folder with a question mark or apple, but hangs soon after. I tried to hold 'shift' on start-up, but also ('command' + 'R') and 'option', but it freezes on a white screen.
I was wondering if there is anything else I could try to reset. If this isn't the case, I was counting on the attempt to start using an external hard drive, then reset the HDD internal. It's the first mac I owned, so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Command + R (recovery of the Internet) does not work on a Mac running 10.5.2.
The problems go beyond freezes at startup, considering it's a Mac of opportunity > Changing owner of a Mac of opportunity | Communities
The question mark at startup folder means that the Mac cannot locate a system folder to boot from and there that most likely the drive has failed on a Mac in early 2008

iMac 27 "2010 slow after that latest operating system upgraded
Updated my 2010 27 "iMac with the updated OS X El Capitan. Since I can't get anything done without the minutes of spinning beach ball, making it practically useless computer. Started in safe mode, removed all points under my user account logs, no change. Also ran utility disk several times without any problems.
Last night ran the being and the ratio is lower.

To be honest, your systems is a complete mess with what has been installed on it. My recommendation would be to do a wipe and install and only install applications to update and do not install ANY antivirus, cleaning or ANY third party maintenance utility.
Manually restore your data files after reinstalling OS X and then choose which applications you really need.

I recently bought an iMac 21 "with the following specifications.
21.5 "iMac 4K 2015 retina
Intel Core i7 3.3GHz
16 GB 1867 MHz DDR3
Intel Pro Iris Graphics 6200 1536 MB
Since the first day it worked remarkably slow. Even during the opening of things such as the finder and system preferences.
I currently own a macbook pro so that works 5 times faster than my iMac.
You have any suggestions of why this could be?
