iMovie 10.1 to 10.0.6 downgrade after opening at 10.1

I am just using iMovie 10.1 after upgrading to El Capitan 10.11 and I cannot work more than 5 minutes without it crashing on me.  It makes no sense for when it crashes.  Simply, it freezes and won't let me not even force quit.  I don't like the new changes that have been made with 10.1 anyway so started in the lane to try to understand how I can get rid of iMovie 10.1 and return to using 10.0.6?  I read that iMovie 10.0.6 is compatible with El Capitan, so it's a step in the right direction for me.  I have iMovie 10.0.6 on my external hard drive that I have backed up before you convert it to El Capitan.  So, I copied to my desktop and tried to open my existing library.  However, I get a pop up screen that basically says there are files/events/projects created with a newer version of iMovie and these files will be ignored.  When I click OK, it will not open at all (instead of opening and ignoring files as shown).  I went back again movie I tried to begin to create in iMovie 10.1 and deleted, but I still have the same error message when you try to open my existing library in the iMovie 10.0.6 which I copied to my desktop.  I can open iMovie 10.0.6 if I create a new library.  And that allows me to work very well for things newly created (without crashing!).  But I can't understand how to access my previous projects/movies/events on my previous library more in the iMovie version 10.0.6.  I'm afraid of uninstalling iMovie 10.1 in the case which will clear all libraries from my previous ones because I can't access these previous libraries on the 10.0.6 version that I copied.  Ultimately, I wish that I never infected my computer with iMovie 10.1 but now I have and I am trying to find a way to get back in time to before I had and its opening.  Any suggestions?

Removal of an iMovie app is not removal of libraries.

The problem is that iMovie 10.1 changes the format of the libraries created in previous versions and it is no longer open in earlier versions and cannot be converted back.  You will need to use the old version of iMovie with a backup or your library taken before its opening at 10.1.

I think it would be better try reinstalling iMovie 10.1.  Since there is obviously something wrong with your installation - 10.1 is stable for most people.

    Hi, Gary.

Go to your movies folder in the Finder, and Ctrl-click on the iMovie icon and click on the contents of the package. In the displayed files, go to resources/iLife sound effects.    Which displays the records for all effects audio, high fidelity. There is also a record of sound effects iMovie in resources.

You will need to open each folder and do a screen shot of the listed audio effects.  Which can be done by command + shift + 4, which will cause your cursor turn into a cross.   Briefly the screen with the cross and then get out of leaning on your mouse or your trackpad.    You will get a JPEG on your desktop, showing the contents of the folder.

    I hope this helps.

  • After the migration to the new sshd, imovie now crashes whenever I try to open a project. All other applications are very good.

Yesterday I installed a new SSD in my MacBook Pro 13 "unibody mid-2012 laptop computer.

After installation, I formatted the drive, install a new copy, El Capitan, then moved the rest of my Time Machine backup.

The computer works great, much more quickly than before. Everything works perfectly except...

After migration, iMovie now blocks whenever I try to open a project. Every time. All other applications are very good. I even opened the original library from my old drive, opens the library of my Time Machine backup and they all down when I double-click on the icon for ANY project!

The files are not corrupt because they have not changed. It doesn't matter which library I use, it crashes whenever I try to open a project.

So far, everything on the Mac works fine. Other applications of Apple, everything! Please someone help me solve this problem because I use iMovie on a regular basis and have SEVERAL projects open that I can't afford to remove.

    Thank you!

    Hello Jon Tompkins,

Thank you for using communities of Apple Support.

If I understand your message that iMovie crashes when you try to open a project. I know the importance of your projects are as I like to use iMovie as well. First of all, I would like to check to see that iMovie will appear in your shopping list in the Mac App Store. If so, delete the app and then reinstall it.

If this isn't the case, so do not delete the app. Instead, follow this link:

OS X El Capitan: If an application crashes or closes unexpectedly

Who also advises to test the problem in safe mode. This article includes the steps to start your MacBook Pro in safe mode:

Try safe mode if your Mac does not end commissioning

After having tested in safe mode, restart your Mac again and allow it to start up as usual. Then test the question again and see if it has not changed.

  • Photos library forgotten intermittently in iMovie

    Hey everybody!

I'm helping a friend with his computer which is having a weird problem where iMovie forget intermittently the computer's default photo library.

I searched the forums and feel a little Google-Fu to no results. Hoping that someone here has heard of him and can help.

    Hardware specifications:

    iMac 21.5 "(retina 4K, end of 2015)"

    3.3 Intel Core i7, 16GB, Iris Pro graphic 6200

    10.11.5 OSX

    Photos Version: 1.5 (370.42.0)

    Version of iMovie: 10.1.2

    Symptom of failure:

When you open iMovie library of Photos may not appear in the sidebar called "libraries."

Friend is then unable to take pictures from Photos to slide directly into the timeline without doing it manually by moving pictures on the desktop, then in iMovie.

    Temporary difficulties (though not ideal):

Opening and closing iMovie has 50-75% likely to appear at the library.

    Notes:

    1. a friend has a large library of Photos (600 GB and more) of his travels and compiles pictures and videos to family and friends.

    2. due to the huge amount of space needed for ALL of its data/backups (not only the pictures), she was sold and configure a Lacie 5big network RAID (20 to total)

    3. the iMac internal 2 TB HDD software account and installed OSX. Its Home folder is located in the 5Big and OSX heading towards it.

    4. the question is extremely intermittent, opening and closing of the application while the photo library is present can remove next time, iMovie is open.

    Things I've tried:

-Creation of a new library of Photos (empty) adding like 20 pictures and then defines it as the default library in preferences. (Question persists)

-Updated all updates of software available.

-Re-install OSX 10.11 and then upgrade to 10.11.5 again.

-Checked to make sure that 5Big is not put the discs "to sleep" after a while, removing the connection to OSX. (It is not)

-Check all the cables and connections to make sure that the drive is connected properly and safely.

-Machine closed down, started 5Big first, he gave 10-15 seconds to establish and then lit iMac to see if OSX has had enough time to 'find' the iMovie library.

-Make sure that the Photos (the application) is closed before opening iMovie, tried also with Photos open before you open iMovie. (Issue still present in both scenarios)

I guess something is in conflict with OSX and RAID 5Big... but I have no idea where to start looking.

Help, please! Please and thank you!

    Aaron.

  • Cannot delete old projects or create a new iMovie 10.1.2

I made about 30 films in iMovie and deleted the first space of 10 or longer to clear some. Now when I try to delete the 'old', nothing happens, no message or anything. And the same thing when I try to start a new project. Someone knows how to solve? I tried to remove and reinstall but that doesn't seem to work, and I have about 50gig of free space. Help, please!

You are to open the view project and deleted from there? Are these old books made in iMovie 10 or upgraded to run in iMovie 10? One thing to try is to open iMovie, hold down the command and option keys and the removal of preferences.

  • My pictures are not appearing in my iMovie

I went to change an old imovie project I did last year. When I open all the images are missing from the video.  they appear in the timeline panel, but they play back in black.  When I click the photo button to import photos, nothing appears as if it is not access my photo library.  I've recently updated to OS X El Capitan's my iMovie 09'.  Is there a way to restore photos on my video and access the photo library. ?

Where are your pictures? Are they in iPhoto or Photos for Mac?

Older versions of iMovie can't access the photo library. To use Photos for Mac for iMovie, you need iMovie 10.1.2. But it's version of iMovie is very different from the one you are currently using.

  • Unable to access iPhoto Library in iMovie!

Since I upgraded my mac computer at the El Captian, I am not able to access the iPhoto library in iMovie where you usually go to import photos after clicking on the camera icon.

    My iMovie is a ' 08 version.

When I clicn the camera icon to import photos or drag my iMovie project, selection of pictures only I have are pictures of my Photo Booth app, but does not have same iPhoto Library in option please more use to!

I tried to go on iPhoto preferences and select "Use as iPhoto Library system", but I can't because it is grayed out. Not sure if this would help.

Can you please help? I have tried everything I can think!

Thank you very much for segments of memory.

You must update iMovie - the latest version is 10.1.2 - El Captain is a new OS and requires the updaes software in many cases

  • IMovie ' 08

    Hello

I currently own an iMac ' 08 running OS X Yosemite. I love making movies then I have been using IMovie ' 08 (Version 7.1.4), but recently discovered I could download a newer version on the Apple site. So I did it, I downloaded IMovie 9.0.9 and when I go to open the package it would read "IMovie 9.0 required for installing this update." Then what should I do to solve this error message or problem?

    Thank you!

You must either buy iMovie for the Mac App Store or get an iLife 11 DVD.

  • iMovie - set audio levels manually extracted

I think remember when I learned to use iMovie for years that there was a way, after extracting audio from a clip, to manually adjust audio levels in the clip. So if there were a few places in the video where the audio to be more or less than I wanted to, I could do by dragging the level a little line upwards or downwards. Is it possible to do it in iMovie ' 09? Or is the only option to change the audio level for the entire clip? I know it's possible discolor or fade out, but I'm looking for more specific control.

You can still do.   Place the cursor on the line of horizontal volume of the audio clip, and then Option/click on it.   That will place a small point on the line

You can go up and down to change the volume.   You can place several points along the line of volume, where you can adjust the

volume at specific locations in the video.

  • IMovie crashed when trying to share a movie at the theater

IMovie crashed when trying to share a movie at the theater.

When you restart it hangs again, a background task seems to try to re - share the movie.

How can I recover the film in order to share this file and to the theatre?

How to stop the background task so that I can use iMovie?

    Hello chattychatty,.

Thank you for using communities of Apple Support.

I understand that iMovie will leave whenever you launch the application after trying to share to the theatre.  To start with this issue where iMovie can not open, I would you please create an iMovie library and see if iMovie opens with this new library:

    Create a new library

    1. Choose file > open library > new.

    2. In the Save dialog box appears, type a name for the new library and navigate to the location where you want to save it.

The default location is the movies folder in your home folder.

    3. Click Save.

A new library is created at the chosen location, and an empty event with the current date is created.

iMovie (2013): work with multiple libraries

If iMovie opens in the new library, we know that there is a problem with your existing library.  The good news is that your information is not lost, since you are able to move your projects and media:

Copy or move projects, events, or the clips between the libraries, or drives

    1. Connect a hard disk that contains the library target to your computer, or copy the library target on your computer.

    2. Choose file > open library and choose an option from the submenu.

You can choose among libraries recently opened at the top of the submenu, locate an existing library on your computer, or create a new library.

    3. The selected library opens in the list of libraries, with the first selected event and its content is displayed in the browser.

    4. In the libraries list, select the event that contains the item you want to move or copy.

    5. In the browser, select the item you want to move or copy.

Note: To select multiple items, hold down the command key when you click the items that you want to select or drag a marquee around the items.

    6. Do one of the following:

      • To move items between events or libraries: drag the clip or the project to another event or a library.

      • To copy items between events or libraries: Option-do drag the clip or project to another event or library first slipping and then by pressing the Option key when you drag.

Please report back with your findings!

    Take care.
