Importing photos from older iPod Nano(Gen 5)

Photos has been synched to the iPod using a PC/iTunes.

The PC was stolen later and now iTunes doesn't want to replace iPod everytime I try to sync.

Ideally I would simply copy photos on PC/laptop(outside iTunes-for fear of deleting the photos which now only exist on the iPod Nano)

The search for solutions, but all seem to be involde 3rd purchase third-party software solutions.

Apple/iTunes/iPod really allows for export/transfer of photos of the Apple device without installing iTunes-origin?

Photos of the iPod are stored in a special way.  During synchronization, iTunes converts photos to fit small iPod screen and stores the data in a special database format.  He comes to optimizing works iPod displaying the photos and save the storage space on the iPod.  As with other types of media, iTunes sync in generally in one direction, from iTunes to iPod library.  You can't use iTunes to retrieve the photos on the iPod.

NOTE: The exception is IF you had a setting is enabled during the synchronization of photos to the iPod.  There is a setting on the display of pictures of the iPod settings in iTunes (where configure you synchronization for photos) to photos full resolution Include.  IF this parameter is enabled when Sync you photos to iPod, you can find and recover the original files of the image in the folder of Photos on the iPod (with disk use enabled) storage, using the file manager of your computer.

There may be third-party utilities that can recover individual photos of the iPod.  However, the photos are generally lower resolution versions of the photos full original resolution, because they have been converted during the synchronization for the small screen of the iPod.

  • How to recover photos from my Ipod nano?

So about a year back my computer crashed and I had to import my entire Ipod library on my new computer to keep all the songs. And all the songs and the videos were all imported except for the pictures. Theres just all about 10 or 12, but I really wanted these pictures and no matter what I do, I really can't get it on my computer. Now, I thought to restore my ipod and I think that these pictures (which I have on my ipod now) will be lost?

So, how to get these pictures?

Just to let you know, I have an Ipod nano (7th generation)

You should not use 3rd party software to recover these pictures, and unless you manually copied to the Nano using the manual synchronization you go just to get a small thumbnail of each photo.

  • remove my photos from the ipod

I have an old Ipod Nano that I give to someone.  How can I delete all the photos of this unit?  Thank you!

    Hey dafhfdhgfgh,

I understand that you want to remove photos from your iPod nano before giving it away. It's something I can help you with that.

The first thing to do is to connect your iPod to your computer and open iTunes. The next thing to do is to create a folder on your computer and then in iTunes, you will want to select this folder. Then it comes to synchronization and the photos will be deleted. Take a look at the first article below for more details.

  • How can I use iPhoto importing photos from card reader?

Aloha all, I really prefer to use iPhoto, or opening when importing photos from card, but Photos opens whenever I put in my camera card. In the preferences of the Photo, the choice to select what app to use when importing is gray. How can I make iPhoto, or even simply to capture Image open rather than Photos? I put iPhoto preferences to do this, but it seems pictures somehow overrides it. Tips, tips out there? Mahalo

Try to set the default application to open the General preferences in iPhoto window:

Do you know that iPhoto is no longer supported by Apple print shops so that all projects must be created and controls through Photos?  Just a heads-up.

If the above does not work, you can kill all apps to open when a camera is connected with the following command in the Terminal application, posted by JadedEye:

Re: Prevent DEFINITELY the Photos to open automatically

    in response to leonie

OK, it worked for me on El Cap

    Open a terminal window

Type the following in the terminal and press enter

defaults write currentHost - com.apple.ImageCapture disableHotPlug - bool YES

(followed by the return key or enter - ed)

    The exit of the terminal.

Photos will run if you run, but it will not autolaunch on each connection to a camera or the card or reformatted the card.

If you want to return Photos auto-launch almost everything, use the same command change YES no

This correction has set my workflow back to normal without Photos of gd lance all the time.

You must then manually run the application that you want to use with the memory card or camera.
