  Hello

  This is the first time I see that the windows firewall is disabled and when I try to turn the action center it shows like below. then when I click on manual settings it shows as the second screen.

  I tried to install the updates from HP, but it shows again a red alert in the Security State, see below.

  Currently, using Quick heal Total security and it is valid for 3 years.

  4 HP ENVY laptop - operating system: Windows 7 Home Basic 64 - bit Service Pack 1

  As you have difficulties to turn the firewall please find the steps below to resolve this issue.

  Perform the following steps and install automatic updates and then try to turn on the firewall.

  Run an online scan to check any virus or any other malicious software:
  http://OneCare.live.com/site/en-us/default.htm

  Run as Administrator Security Center;
  http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/understanding-security-and-safe-computing

  Perform the following steps and update the computer:

  1. click on start, type Notepad in the start search box, and then click Notepad in the list programs.

  2 copy the following text, and then paste the text into Notepad:

  start wuauserv sc config = auto

  SC config bits start = auto

  SC config start = auto DcomLaunch

  net stop wuauserv

  net start wuauserv

  net stop bits

  net start bits

  net start DcomLaunch

  Click file, click Save as, and then type Repair.bat.

  3. in the file type box, click all files (*. *).

  4. in the save box, click Desktop, and then click Save.

  5. in the file menu, click on exit.

  6. right - click on the Repair.bat file that you saved in step 5, and then click Run as administrator. This action starts the required services. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click on continue.

  7. try again to install updates. If you install the updates, delete the file Repair.bat. To remove the file Repair.bat, right-click Repair.bat, click on remove and then click Yes.

  ·         Try to activate the firewall after these steps.

  1. don't you get an error when you try to turn it on?
  2. hell on Windows Firewall?
  3. which edition of Windows Vista you are using?

  Check the status of the Windows Firewall service.

  Follow these steps:
  a. click on start and type services.msc in the search box and press on enter.
  b. Locate the Windows Firewall service.
  c. make sure that the service is started and set to automatic.

  If you get an error during the startup of the service, then post the error here so that we can move forward more troubleshooting.

When I go into my firewall settings in the Control Panel, it is not yet allow me to click the option "Turn Windows Firewall on or off" to the left. So I thought that maybe my Norton firewall interfering with it, so I turned off its smart firewall. But I can not turn on my windows firewall.   You can choose between Norton Firewall and the integrated firewall of Windows 7. Frankly, I don't recommend Norton/McAfee product then I would completely uninstall that came with your laptop and use the firewall built Windows instead. For antivirus protection, I recommend MS Security Essentials or Avast, Avira or NOD32 (commercial) If you need a free antivirus software. MS - MVP - Elephant Boy computers - don't panic!

  I'm not able to activate my wireless network on Windows 7 laptop connection. I have Atheros AR928X Wireless Network Adapter and I am unable to connect wireless. I was able to connect a few weeks previously, but now my Wireless Network Connection is still "NOT CONNECTED", I called my local router support and they said that everything is good on both sides and that my settings of the adapter or the driver must be on off somehwere.   You have KMS license in effect for your Windows 7 Machines.  If this isn't the case, that is the question.

  You have 4 options:

  Option 1: Get KMS licenses in place for Microsoft Win7. -by far the easiest.

  Option 2: Use SYSPREP instead of QuickPrep

  Option 3: Add 1 at a time and activate the link manually clones b4 customization finishes - pain in the rear. Or be creative if it's your test env.

  Option 4: Hack the key "reg" activate this supossedly a composer. Here is the info:

  HKLMsystem/CurrentControlSet/services/vmware-viewcomposer-ga/SkipLicenseActivation to '1'.

  Of course the Win7 Office will be up to the period-eval evaluation mode expires but can be useful in a temporary unit or POC.

  The foregoing is not tested I tried it in my environment but do not know if it works because I don't want to mess with my installing any further until my POC is complete.  But it seems to work.  I found no key but went ahead and created.  Seems to work.
