Impossible to apply an ICC profile to display. can not understand instructions for color management

I just upgraded again own computer with Windows7 from my old XP machine.  I have icc profiles for my two monitors.  Under XP, I had nothing wrong with 'apply' or 'associate' or 'use' of these profiles by using the MS color, and both monitors would change appearance when starting a State fully calibrated and profiled.

Now, in Win7, I followed fairly confusing instructions, go to the color management / devices / select one of the screens / click "use my settings for this device" / add a profile box "Profiles associated with this device" using the add"" button.  Then I click on the correct profile in this box and click "Set as default profile".  Nothing happens.  I can put any weird profile as a default, and nothing happens.

I don't even know instructions during the effective application of this profile is supposed to happen, but guess it is when you click on "set as default profile."

"It may be a clue that the color management dialog box fails to identify my poster other than in the form ' generic PnP monitor - NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT" while the control panel NVIDIA and Windows 'Screen Resolution' box both manage to identify the poster correctly and use their own name i, e, Eizo L768 and Samsung SyncMaster.

In addition, 'Identify display' in the dialogue box CM works exactly the opposite of how it works in the other two boxes that is Samsung (left) is number 1 in color Mgmt, but number 2 in the control panel Nvidia and Windows 'Screen Resolution' box.

I'm stuck until I can address this issue, so would be very grateful for any help.

Thank you

Thanks the geek for your help.  No thank you somehow to anyone from Microsoft.  None of this reflects well on Microsoft; No to the current Windows 7 CM interface design, not the fact that after years of complaints and messing around with color management that they could have finally gotten the mechanics in place, but still cannot explain, or make it possible for mortals to use it, and certainly not the fact that they create these monsters and offer no support to any well-founded None.  Not a response to a MS person here, not a good answer to similar questions scattered throughout the Web, no after sales support during any period after the purchase of a new operating system of MS qualified (it's supposed to be provided by the OEM, but of course, none of them knows this kind of thing, how can you keep waiting if Microsoft don't?).  So - NO support.

I can't believe I fell for the hype and purchased a new Windows System.  I swear to you that this is my LAST purchase of windows.  Microsoft, despite the amazing improvements in Win7, still do not understand.

Here's the answer to my problem, thanks to some photographers and no thanks to Microsoft...

1 ASSOCIATE YOUR PROFILES WITH DISPLAY AND SET as a DEFAULT value

To apply an existing ICC profile (ICM file created by any process of calibration), follow these steps.

Control panel / display / change display settings / advanced settings / color management / color (new!)  / Devices / select one of your displays * 1 / click "use my settings for this device" * 2 / if necessary adds profile applicable to the area of "Profiles associated with this device" using the "Add" button (if your profile is not already listed but is available somewhere on the network or the computer) / click on the correct profile in this box and click "set as default profile."

* 1 the dialog boxes CM do not label your displays just like the other dialog boxes, they seem to lose the manufacturer and the model number information that is available elsewhere, so your display ABC model nn appears as display: 1. Generic PnP monitor .  Also note that at least on my system, display "1" was in fact display '2' in the other dialogs settings display and vice versa.

* 2 that could think by selecting 'Use my settings for this device' would mean the Windows using your settings for this device (screen), but apparently it isn't.  That means... Well, I don't know what that means.  Perhaps it means that if you do select not her, even the next step (see below) will not help you.

Good work so far - unnecessarily complex - and tortuous, but has a certain logic.  Unfortunately it is not nothing at all, until you train the secret key.  Well it seems that the above should do what you want, you need to do something that is quite obvious and not mentioned at all in the General discussion of the help and apparently not known by the 67 people who have read my question.  In fact, it is listed in the section to help Ms... at the bottom of the "Description of the color management settings" and after a largely incomprehensible mass of things that appear not to be relevant, there is a link that is not listed in the content at the top and almost impossible to see... To enable or disable calibration loading Windows

2 ACTIVATE THE CALIBRATION BY WINDOWS LOADING

Here's the little hidden from the help file...

  1. To enable or disable calibration loading of Windows, you must be logged in with an account of a user with administrator privileges.

  2. Click to open color management.

  3. Click the Advanced tab, and then click change system default values.

  4. Click on the Advanced tab in the color - default system, dialog management, and do one of the following:

    • To allow Windows to load and display calibrations, check the box use Windows display calibration.

    • To prevent Windows from loading screen calibration, clear use Windows display calibration check box.

  5. Click Close in the color management - default settings dialog box of the system.

  6. Click Close in the color management dialog box.

Not only it obscure, it confounds even by the fact that you are in the same dialog twice, but the second time is the reference color - default system management instead of the color management as it was the first two times.   But only on the second time is the required box enabled to allow you to check or do a system wide setting.  Easy to miss.

Experts of either MS doesn't know about it and can not find in the help files or the other, or that they couldn't be bothered to answer my question.  In any case a) I hope this helps someone else, and b) I hope that Mrs. lift their game to support and actually meets the future to frustrated and powerless people that I was.  Thanks Microsoft for losing a day of my life.

  • How to have different color profiles on screens cloned with color management

    Hello

I have calibrated two monitors (in fact, one is a standard monitor and the other is a projector that is connected to my computer) using the third-party program. I'm so done with ICC profiles two different, one for my monitor and the other for my image to the projector.

These two are connected to a card double head (Quadro 4000).

I am able to use my two different color ICC profiles with an extented of office using the color management settings in Win7 without problem. I can't disable them without problem also.

But I can't do it with a clone view (dual display). Even if I am able to select two different profiles for each of them in windows color management settings. Alone can apply for each of them. In fact, when I'm in an office clone, even when I tried to deactivate the profile of each color, nothing changed. Color management doesn't seem to update more as soon as I'm in a clone desktop mode.

Anyone know if there is a way to apply TWO different colors on monitors CLONED profiles? In my case, I can not use extended desktop and I really need to apply the calibration profile two different.

    Thank you very much!

  • U2413 - factory Color Calibration and ICC profiles

Hi, I just bought a U2413. I need for photography. There is nothing on profiles ICC U2413 DELL that was installed with the software in the documentation. And please note that I have not (yet!) a calibrator. I need to configure the best without calibrator... using the factory calibration.

I hope you can make it clear, to me, how it works.

The monitor has different MODES BUILT-IN, such as:
    -Color space sRGB
    -Color space ARGB
    -Standard
    -Game, etc.

Which mode is the one that has been calibrated at the factory?
What mode should I use in order to have the results of color?
I see that there is no DELL U2413 color profile, D6500, which is associated with the monitor (I can see it in the control panel). I think it is good to have this setting. Can you please confirm?

Do I set up the U2313 DELL ICC profile also to programs like Canon Digital Photo Professional, or as long as it is in Windows, it is not necessary? [Item 3 of this screenshot]. I see that if I put profile DELL in Canon DPP the colors of the photos appear much colder.

    Thank you

If you do not have access to an i1DisplayPro/Color munki display a yo do not have the possibility to calibrate (not even in GPU with the munki:)

    factory calibrated
-sRGB: 50 50 brightness contrast. You can use standard sRGB.icm, once lower you it up to 120cd/m (20-25% brightness) you will lose the white point calibration.

-AdobeRGB: contrast 50 50 brightness. You can use standard AdobeRGB1998.icm (complatible or ones like Clay1998.icm), once lower you it up to 120cd/m (20-25% brightness) you will lose the white point calibration but less than sRGB. For color management programs and without perhaps a colorimeter its your safest choice, do not forget to assign and activate an Adobe1998.icm/Clay1998.icm in Control Panel of Windows to your monitor while you're in this preset OSDdevice.

The other preset OSD are not calibrated at the factory.

-standard is delivered with the native range (as described in U2413.icm of pilots) and native white (whie 6700-7000K with a strong green tint)

-Custom is delivered with the native range (as described in U2413.icm of pilots) and native white (whie 6700-7000K with a strong green tint), but you have access to the parameters of "custom colors". 20-25% brightness, contrast 50%, and R = 100, G = 91 = 97 peut give you near D65 white and 2.26 "grow" gamma (cose to 2.2 or sRGB but I guess it comes with a ramp to a same gray except calibrated). Try these setings and activate U2413.icm in this preset custom of the OSD.

And get an i1DisplayPro, you really need.

    Canon DPP regarding:

2 refers to the "default" image profile
3 to view the profile (so the DPP can distort the RGB values in the image to represent this color in what that is the range to your screen). Once you set a dile icm as 'default' in the control panel-> color management-> your device it shoud check the option "use operating system settings" (I think, I don't have any owm a canon camera)
5 a your printer profile, a profile for each combination of inkjet paper
    6. keep this, perceptual is generally more 'alive' than the actual image
7 I think takes forever with Canon programs (but I am not a canon camera, so I have not tried their meaning), keep the same as 6

  • U2413, Confused about ICC profiles and sRGB/ARGB modes

    Hello

I have a question for the calibrated modes (sRGB/ARGB) of U2413.
-I guess that there's no ICC profiles are delivered with the driver for these because they are focused on the LUT calibrations?
-However, when the driver is installed, it installs the native ICC profile. This profile still apply in the calibrated LUT modes? I guess it shouldn't because it is for native mode only, but is it? Or I'll remove it?

    Thank you.

The sRGB and AdobeRGB modes use hardware for calibration LUT in the monitor. If you use these modes you must set at least the standard sRGB or AdobeRGB ICC profiles in your operating system to correctly define color space, in which you are working.

You could actually make calibrations of LUT of additional software stored in a custom ICC profile, and they would act on top of equipment calibration LUT in the monitor.

The 'DELL U2413, D6500 color profile' native ICC profile defines the color space of the monitor, which is actually a bit larger than AdobeRGB in certain colors. Do not use it if you set the monitor the sRGB or AdobeRGB modes. According to me, the native ICC profile corresponds to the color space used in preset 'Standard' of the monitor, but there is not LUT stored in the ICC profile to calibrate the colors accurately.

  • How to set the ICC profile in LR to be identical to PS?

    Hey Adobe,

. Why my images look much more dark and contrasting in LR (4.3) then they do on PS (CS6) where they have much more of the tonal range? I'm looking at side by side on the same screen. I know this has to do with the ICC profiles, but I can't find how you set that in LR. Any help would be appreciated. An example can be found here: http://mikedodd.co.uk/other/temp/Screen%20shot%202013-01-22%20at%2023.06.52.jpg you can see how much better the upper part (PS) image is

    Thank you

    Mike

This, again, I have the impression is a problem with the monitor profile, and a new calibration is in order.

Lightroom and Photoshop must display like any profile you send to Photoshop. They are both fully color managed and will convert any profile of the source on the appropriate monitor profile. In Lightroom, the source profile is its internal workspace (linear Prophoto), in Photoshop everything you set in Lr preferences under external editing.

In this case the PS version is obviously good. But if the monitor profile has a problem may arise in different ways in different applications.

  • ICC-profile for images

I have a fundamental question about color profiles.

I put the color profile Adobe RGB (1998) for the default PS.

I'm working on images for most and my question is how to save JPG and other files, if with added ICC Adobe RGB (1998) or not?

    For example:
My edited image will be published on the web. Added influence of color profile on the colors displayed on the websites? Or computer screens will display default sRGB and color profile added do not effect displayed colors?

And for the laboratory should be OK Adobe RGB (1998), but I should inform me by laboratory personnel, is not it?

    Thanks for the explanation.

Do not use Adobe RGB for the web. Most web browsers accept only sRGB images so make sure you convert your images to sRGB before putting them on the web (file-> save for Web & devices done automatically for you)

  • Not appearing ICC profiles do not

Hello!   Totally frustrated here...   I'm doing my first event in LR 6 but it does not find the printer icc profile.  I did that the printer driver is installed, and my printer is working, so I have to assume that it is installed.

    I have a HP Photosmart 7525.

I'm not really intending to print on this printer, but I am experimenting with using the icc profile in event before as I have called my photo lab I have a small idea of what I do when I talk with them.

My books of LR, I should have an option to specify the two printer icc profiles and the paper icc profiles. But there is no option for me specify the paper anywhere.

I've been both HP.com and InternationalPaper.com and don't have neither icc profiles available for download.  Grrr.

Not much hair left on my head.

    Thanks for your help!

Insert a text container on the slide of results (legend or form) and insert this variable by using the X key in accordion Format of the properties panel for the text container. The variable is displayed like this:

  • Display Dell Feature Request Manager: ability to associate an ICC profile preset and automatically switch

I have a Dell U3014 and I love this monitor. I also like the display Manager software that allows me to quickly change the presets to monitor without messing around with the OSD or completely automatic based on the application that I use. The problem: many people, including that using end monitors need to render accurate colors and for this reason they calibrate/profile their monitors. Each preset needs that we present independently and has an associated ICC profile. Especially in windows, it is necessary to use an sRGB preset based for color unmanaged applications, while a wide range of predefined such as Adobe RGB is used on applications such as photoshop color management, lightroom etc. Manager display Dell offer a quick and elegant solution for the preselections, either by selecting a quick menu, either by automatically associating a preset for a given application (i.e. photoshop is enabled, go to Adobe RGB). It works very well, however the selection of the appropriate profile must be done manually and it's quite tedious (open the resolution of the screen change applet, click Advanced setting, open the color management applet, select the appropriate monitor and finally load the profile ICC proper). It's a lot of time and pain that could be completely and painlessly by DDM the automated solution: a small improvement to DDM may be in the form of a tab in color management, where an existing ICC profile may be associated with a given preset. If a preset has an associated ICC profile, DDM will load the appropriate corresponding ICC profile when it switches preset. Windows has API to load ICC profiles that are easy to use. I even tried to write my own software. Switching profiles is not complicated. What is difficult is to SDC/DI allows you to change the presets on the monitor. There is no free library to do that I could find. The company that makes this software to display for Dell Manager, EnTech sells libraries which SDC/DI but are more expensive that I can afford. I think to add such a device to DDM, would be an effort across very minor EnTech part, but the benefits for users would be great. If such a device would be helpful for you, or if you have any other suggestions please post them here. I hope that if there is an important need for it, Dell can ask EnTech to incorporate it into a future version of the MDD. Thank you.

Thank you very much. It worked! Now, on the display manager, I have a small ICM button where I can link a CIM profile in a "Preset". It works beautifully. As a suggestion, it would be nicer to display in the ICM selection menu the name of the profile from its metadata rather than the file name of the profile itself as many profiling rather than application of the colour profile human-readable name in metadata and use a hex hash to force the user to open the applet from color correction to match the name of the file which is which. Also, the list is completed by the name of old profiles that have already been deleted. Whence the list?  These files are not in my windows/system32/spool/pilot/color directory more, are in the registry and also do not appear in the applet of color correction.

Would be very happy to beta-test report and new updates.

Thanks again for adding this feature. It is very useful
