  Hi Mike.   I think that 2.5 D is the parallax effect where the angle of the camera moves in 3D space?  By separating the elements and doing well the bottom are a process of Photoshop, the animation should be done with After Effects as far ss I know.

  Try Google with "Dave Hill Parallax Animation".  Hers was the first example of the effect that I've seen, and it has lots of information on how to do it online.   The answer to your question depends entirely on what camera Canon photo come from your CR2 files.
