Impossible to run an .exe file or shortcut unless I have run as administrator.

Hello

Write to you all today because I recently had a virus on my second computer that is running Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit edition and after removing Vista Anti Malware 2010, am unable to run .exe files. Initially, Avast Anti Virus caught the ave.exe file and removed from my system to the program had already himself installed and launched several times. I manually deleted some reg keys that it added to my registry and now I have an error after trying to launch any program file or .exe. I might be accidentally deleted a key "reg" I needed. I tried running SFC in the command prompt and couldn't solve my problem, and everything I've read says to restore from a backup, but my computer is fairly new and I still have my backup files ><. this="" is="" the="" error="" message="" i="" receive="" every="" time="" unless="" i="" right="" click="" and="" hit="" run="" as="">

C:\Program... (header)

This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the set Associations control panel.

I can't find an option to create an association for any .exe in the set Associations control panel...

PLEASE HELP ME!

This is getting very frustrating. Thanks for your time.

Daric

Edit: I tried CHKDSK also now...

  • Administrator privileges, can not uninstall, impossible to run as administrator

    Hello
I try to uninstall a program, and he said 'you must be an administrator to remove this application. To remove this application, you can log on as an administrator or contact your technical support"or else he says"you don't have sufficient access to uninstall x. Please contact your system administrator. I thought that maybe I had no ownership of the file to uninstall so I found the folder of the program, right click Properties, then advanced, security, then the owner tab. My profile name is displayed and I click on edit, but it says in a window of Windows security "cant' open access control editor." access is denied. "

OK, so I'm the administrator as I have only one user account. I then tried to follow this advice, http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/Windows7/Fix-a-corrupted-user-profile, on a corrupt user profile setting, but ran into problems. I notised that anything with the shield symbol reacts when I click it, that is, under user accounts, click on "Add or remove user accounts", but there is no reaction. The same for the change of name of the account, type, manage another account and change user account control settings.

Also, I tried to start in safe mode. He has successfully uninstalled one program (peerblock) but for the other (private tunnel) says it is not accessible in safe mode.

I have just tried to run programs as an administrator and a similar error occurs - "Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You can not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.

I uninstalled some programs a week ago and tried others just a few days back which is when I noticed the problem. So, in general, my problem seems to access anything whatsoever with administrator privileges.

    I am under W7 32-bit.

I hope this is enough information.
    Kind regards.

    Hi again,
so, ok, I have a firewall, which I had eliminated as the cause of the problem by setting it to allow traffic. However, he just informed me blocked traffic even if its set for allow. I stopped and tried what I could not do more high and everything works again. So in short, the problem was me or PrivateFirewall...

  • Impossible to run as administrator. Disabled UAC administrator

I recently changed the name of the account from my computer by running netplwiz on windows 7. After the change has been made, I restarted my computer. I realized that the account had changed to a guest account administrator account. I went to user accounts to change the account back to admin. When I click on "change your account type", a UAC dialog box appeared prompting for the password and the 'Yes' option is greyed out. I tried to run CMD as administrator, but the UAC dialog box does not allow me.

My efforts to use the default Administrator account were unsuccessful. I restarted the computer in safe mode and logged using my account (which is always a guest account). I started cmd and typed the command:

NET user administrator / Active: Yes

but I get a system error 5 access denied.

Is there a way I can access administrator privileges? And return my admin account?

Customers can not activate the hidden admin.  You will need to run a repair of the win 7 dvd installation or a clean install as well.

  • Unable to run .exe files without using runas:administrator

    Original title: Windows Script Profiler?

I recently had a virus on my computer, and it's file, he decided to corrupt. So, naturally, the antivirus got rid of him. Apparently, it was a pretty important, because now shortcuts to executables do work if I run as administrator (otherwise, I must point out the path for the time of EACH shortcut manually) and pitchers for the games that open several executables for the open game (EX: LOTRO) do any work.

  • .exe files does not

I had a problem with spyware earlier today and accidentally deleted files .exe, including rundll32.exe, which is apparently needed to run everything that I need!  Using the available online programs/scans was useless, because of course ironically, an .exe file is necessary for the program works!  I made sure my .exe file is associated with 'applications' but this has not fixed anything whatsoever and I am unable to do a system restore because I don't have the .exe file to make it work.  Whenever I try to run any of these (System Restore, disk cleanup, etc.), I received the box inviting me to choose what program with which to run the file, but I have no idea what to choose.  I work on Windows XP and had not any problems, until the 'XP Internet Security 2012' appeared and I downloaded Spyware Doctor to remove it.  Please help, I'm beyond frustrated!

    This makes no sense...

If the rundll32.exe file is missing, some things will not work and you will see a message like this for example, when you try to open the Control Panel, add / remove programs:

    Control Panel
Windows cannot find 'C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe '.  Make sure you typed the name correctly and then try again.  To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click search.

Cleaning disk and system restore still works fine if the rundll32.exe file is missing, because they don't use it, so it seems that your file associations are not very well.

How can I know it?  I started in the XP Recovery Console (so Windows file protection does not run) and deleted my rundll32.exe file Express, restarted normally with the file 'disappeared' and actually tried.

    I could do this:

Go to this site by Doug WWW:

    http://www.dougknox.com/

On the left, click on the Win XP fixes, file Association fixed and read the instructions at the top of the page.

Download the EXE File Association Fix on your desktop, unzip the file and apply it by following the instructions at the top of the page, and then restart and see if your system restore or disk cleanup will launch now (you must run again - just to see if the launch or not).

No matter what you use for malware protection, follow these steps:

Download, install, update and do a full scan with these free malware detection programs at:

    Malwarebytes (MMFA): http://malwarebytes.org/
    SUPERAntiSpyware: (SAS): http://www.superantispyware.com/

They can be uninstalled later if you wish.

    Restart and fix any problems.

Also note that if the rundll32.exe file is missing in the system32 folder, running sfc/scannow will not replace it because it is not this that sfc/scannow does.

Running sfc/scannow will attempt to replace the rundll32.exe file if it is missing here the dllcache folder, but if you have a genuine XP bootable with the same Service Pack installation CD as your installed SP (most people don't), you won't get away with sfc/scannow.

If your rundll32.exe file is really missing, I have one on my SkyDrive, you can download.

How can I know it?  I actually tried.

  • 2 apparently valid csrss.exe files

I have 2 versions of the csrss. running exe file. I seem to have one different problem than others with this issue. In the Task Manager: show the user as 'System', both under Win32, the two will allow me to complete the process, but I get the BSOD with the two, in the properties they are exactly the same... even the same install date. It uses 1-2 mb while another uses 5-6 mb, shows 0 cpu. Only reason why I checked, is that I have installed a new virus protector that won't start. Their support has called for one is a Trojan horse that weaken their software. Everything else seems OK, no slow downs or software problems. Operating system is Win7 64 bit.

You get a csrss.exe plus one for each connected user. You will also have an another csrss.exe conhost.exe running if you start a command prompt.

  • writing of XML in an .exe file

    Hello

So, is it possible to display PHP in an .exe file instead of a .swf in a browser?

If so, how? I thought that if you just created the .exe on the server with the .php file in the same folder

He would read and work very well.

This doesn't seem to be the case... of ideas? Must always go through a browser page?

    Thank you

It is possible to call a PHP file from an EXE file. Make sure you have th PHP file in the root Web of your Web server (IIS or Apache). Also, make sure you use the path of the server, for example: http://localhost/myapp/myphpfile.php. It should work!

  • Remove "Run as Administrator" from the context menu

I'm locking of the student accounts on our lab computers, and I was wondering if there was a way to remove the "run as Administrator" from the context menu for the Office products?  I already deleted it for all other .exe files and shortcuts on the desktop through the registry after I made a backup.  The registry key that I deleted is:

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\shell\runas
Any help would be appreciated.  Thank you.

I'm probably missing something (maybe to do with the students how creative people can be), but miss me how it helps lock anything down since the use of "Run as administrator" immediately triggers a dialog box asking for the administrator password.  Just curious.

  • When you run McAfee scan in Vista, shows the E:/bin/IA/MdmServ.exe file as a threat, impossible to remove

    Hello
This E:/bin/IA/MdmServ.exe file will appear as a threat to my computer after a scan with McAfee. McAfee says that I have to restart my computer for its removal. After the reboot, for a few days, my scans are normal only and then I get the file as a threat.
McAfee detects it as a Trojan horse. I tried to access the file to try to remove it manually, but a window pops up saying "Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You can not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.
This could really be a threat and if so how to remove?

    1. Restart your computer.

  • When you try to run an .exe file, windows will appear with a warning saying I don't have permission to use the file... and yet I used it earlier that day and no changes have been made on the computer

I'm a gamer, I play world of Warcraft. A week ago, the shortcut of this game that was created through disk began to have a popup alert indicating * Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You can not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.* thing is, it was working fine a few weeks ago and no changes to the computer or the security settings. So I created a shortcut using the .exe directly instead of that the game gives us. Now yesterday I've played, got off, went to practice, returned, and it was blocked. There are no other files (that I know) have this problem, it's the unique. I am running vista Home Premium service pack 2 of the of the window on a relatively new dell 32-bit processor. I have absolutely no idea as to what caused this... anyone have an idea? Thank you.

    Justanotheridiot,
If you uninstall Norton, you can reinstall and your subscription will remain current.  Just make sure that you are using the Norton removal tool to uninstall.  You can find on their Web site.  You also mentioned McAfee on your system.  If you have not used the removal tool they provide that I suggest to go to get it and run it before removing Norton.  I heard about problems caused by one of these programs being not entirely removed by using only the normal uninstall option.

Also if you have not already done, right click on the file that you run and choose "Run as Administrator" and see if that makes a difference. Mike - Engineer Support Microsoft Answers

  • problem running programs and .exe files

computer has been corrupted (by clicking on kids')-tried malwarebytes' anti-malware scan, when I rebooted, nothing works.  I tried microsoft security, but could not access the program.  I tried the system restore, but that no longer works.  If I try to download a program, do not automatically work .exe files and my computer asks me what kind of program to run it - nothing done!  I am missing shortcuts, applications, and system files.  I can't go to the Help Center to try a new date of system restore because application helpctr.exe is not found.  Any help?

It is likely that your .exe and other extensions have changed my virus/malware.

There is a simple fix as long as you can open regedit from the start > run box.

As long as you can then go (I hope I'm not breaking rules here - url not mine but very helpful)

    http://www.dougknox.com/XP/file_assoc.htm

Download the .reg and .exe association fixes. Use ' file > import ' option in regedit for each of the downloaded files. This should solve your problems. Best regards, Dave.

  • Shortcuts to programs, EXE files does not open (you will be asked which program I want to use to open the file)

My system has developed a strange (and annoying) issue that no longer allows me to double click on the shortcuts of programs or EXE files.  When I do, I give myself a menu asks me what program I want to use to open the file, as if I was trying to open a file with an extension that is not associated with.

The only way to get all the programs to run more is to right click on the shortcut and select "Run as Administrator".

Right click on the shortcut also reveals a new 'momentum' (Yes, spelled with one S tiny) option in the menu.  I have not tried it works, in my view, it could be related to some false recently-removed security software that appeared out of nowhere last night.

Any help to remedy this situation and get back to normal functionality would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

If program shortcuts are not no longer works, you will need to use a procedure special difficulty fo files .lnk (similar to the one used above with .exe files).

Go to http://www.mydigitallife.info/2008/06/22/reset-and-fix-broken-windows-vista-file-ext-and-type-associations-include-exe-com-sys-zip-lnk-folder-drive/ and select the .lnk and run it.  That should fix your shortcuts.  Or you can use the link provided above by Michael Murphy - it does essentially the same thing.

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!
