Impossible to start only on the desktop, bootable device error - please restart

Original title: windows startup problems 8

I have a Toshiba satellite laptop that came from the factory with windows 8.  I just can't get started.    It stops at the toshiba leading innovation which is the first screen after power to the screen on.  the function keys that product screen blank screen except at the top where a line doesn't read bootable device - please reboot of the system, which can do to solve this problem

Hi Ericmadison,

This problem may occur if your hard drive is not set as your first boot or because of defective hard drive device.

What is the exact full model of your PC Toshiba satellite laptop?

Make sure that your hard drive is set us your first boot in the BIOS device. See your manual for your Toshiba satellite computer to check the key to enter the BIOS. Once you get into the BIOS, check if your hard drive is selected as the first boot device.

Warning of the BIOS: BIOS change / semiconductor (CMOS) to complementary metal oxide settings can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly.

Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the configuration of the BIOS/CMOS settings can be solved. Changes to settings are at your own risk.

If the hard disk is already selected as first boot device, I suggest you to run the check disk from the Windows recovery environment using the installation media. CHKDSK (Chkdsk.exe) is a command-line tool that checks volumes on your hard disk for problems. The tool will attempt to repair problems it encounters. For example, Chkdsk can repair problems related to bad sectors, lost clusters, reticulate files and directory errors.

As Windows came pre-installed, try to create an installation of Windows 8 media (DVD/USB). Check out the following link.

How to create an installation media for a PC refresh or reset

http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-8/create-reset-refresh-media

Try to go to BIOS option to change the priority of boot on CD/DVD (first boot device). See your manual for your Toshiba satellite computer to check the key to enter the BIOS.

Once you change the boot priority, follow the steps mentioned below.

Check the drive of the Windows recovery environment (RE Win) and check. Follow these steps:

  1. Insert the Windows 8 (DVD/USB) installation media, and then restart the computer.
  2. Hit F12 key (usually it's F12, but it may differ between computer manufacturers) and choose the drive in which you inserted into the installation media.
  3. Once the Windows Setup window appears, follow these steps:
  4. Then drag and select repair your computer.
  5. You will then see a blue screen and an option to choose.
  6. Choose the Troubleshooting option and select Advanced options.
  7. Select prompt to start the Advanced startup option.
  8. Computer will restart automatically.
  9. Once restarted, choose an account with administrative privileges.
  10. In the next screen, enter the appropriate password and press the button continue to access command prompt.
  11. In the command prompt window, type the following command:

CHKDSK /F /R

12. Once complete, restart the computer and check.

Important: the data available on bad sectors may be lost when chkdsk attempts to repair your hard drive.

Please answer us on the State of the question to help you further.

    Hi guys,.

Need your help on this one... .my computer runs windows 7 Home premium 64-bit, I just installed VMware workstation 7.1. Problem is this

Before installation of VMware, when I turn on my computer, it starts directly on the desktop but now it starts until the windows login screen where I choose me as the user (Administrator) after having chosen only then it opens a session on the desktop. Please, keep in mind, there is only 1 user account created for this computer and it's me... what could be the problem? I don't want that... I want windows to load directly on my desk after turning on my computer.

I didn't mingle with the settings under VMware before asking you guys... as I am a first time user of VMware.

Would appreciate any help a little. Thank you

Workstation creates a user account for its own use. Even if this account is hidden (that is why you don't see on the login screen), it always results in that there is more than one account is activated, which in turn disables the automatic connect feature. You can reactivate autologinby following the instructions here:

  • Computer starts normally but the desktop icons/Dowes/all are unclickable and cannot do something with them?

My brother has recently installed FireFox on its Windows XP (the only recent change on this laptop). Last night my mother crashed the computer (the only thing she did apparently was click on volume control panel too often making it appear several times, and then go away, she then tried to open the shortcut on the desktop "internet explore", who then tried to load FireFox instead, as it has become the default value). From there on, the computer did not respond, and I could not close normally, so I had put out of service. Today, we have tried several times to use this laptop, but although it loads normally and the Mouse/touchpad moves correctly, we cannot click on any icons or the dowes or whatever it is is completely insensitive.

Could someone tell me what to do?

    Ok

Yes, it's more than enough RAM.

Boot mode safe again and check all entries in msconfig to see from evry time you start.

    Start/run and type

    Msconfig

    Ok

    Startup tab

Keep the page open, then click on the link below with your other machine. It will tell you what are all the entries and see if you can disable them or not. It will also identify malicious programs.  Turn off everything that is not necessary to run at startup

    http://www.SysInfo.org/StartupList.php

Read the key at the top of page. Use the search box to check all your entries

When you restart, you will get a message saying that you have begun in "Selective startup" click "don't show this message again" and then click OK

Also check if there is a yellow speckles in Device Manager

    Right click on my computer/properties/hardware/Manager

  • Windows 7 64 bit, start slowing down, the desktop icons and taskbar of loading very slowly since last week!

so first, I'll start with my system features:

    Reference Dell Xps15z
    Intel Core i7 - 2640M to 2.8 ghz
    NVIDIA GT525M 2 GB
    8 GB RAM
Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1 64-bit
    Samsung PM830 SSD 2.5 "7 GB 218, 42 GB of free
My laptop is now just a year and plays well outside some blue screen errors that have been fixed. The question now is time to start being significantly slower, especially the loading of the office. It takes 15 seconds to the password screen, to 45 seconds to reach the office and another 45 seconds to the taskbar, icons and things on the desktop to load. What is unusual is that during this black screen, my mouse is displayed, as well as for Advanced System Care 6 performance monitor (I doubt that this is the problem as I had installed for some time). I did the troubleshooting on mine and removed about half of my program without success. I also checked the health and performance of my SSD with SSD and SSD life and both seem to be very positive. I did not any changes to the Bios because I don't want to reinstall my OS and I'm not really sure on workarounds.
I tried also to the difficulty of the task of explorer.exe, by checking the value of shell in the registry and it is correct, that it just load slowly at the start and each time I kill and then open it again in the Task Manager. Therefore, I think that my main problem is with explorer.exe loading slowly for some reason, I also removed some desktop icons and taskbar, although I doubt that it makes much difference.
I've also done many scans with malware bytes pro and hitman pro, there is no virus on my computer.
I appreciate any help, as it is very inconvenient for my more than 90 seconds start time, when he was about 20 when the laptop was new.
Thank you very much for your help!
P.S. I have about 60 GB of games installed on my pc via steam, if it makes a difference to delete some

When my Windows 7 is slow to start, I do the following:

Start, then in the search box, type of race. In run, type "msconfig"(sans guillemets), and then click OK. ""
In the general tab, make sure that selective startup is selected.
Under Selective startup, clear the check box load startup items.
Then go to the Startup tab and disable everything except software antivirus and important such as the microsoft. In addition, DO NOT disable any program that you do not recognize.
This will disable any unnecessary background programs and prevent to launch at startup.
NOTE: you can still start programs even if they do not start at startup. For example, your favorite game is one of them, and you the disabled. Now, the game does not start at startup, but if you click on the game icon later, it will always start, except maybe a bit slower when it starts. Basically, you are delaying the start of programmes which does not need to start at startup, you move a part of the start-up BACK period. The only programs that you do not disable is programs that actually need to start (like if it starts your computer will blow or something similar).
  • MY POP3 accounts receive emails with lack and truncated attached files. This started only after the most recent update for Thunderbird Version 38.1.0

I recently started having truncated the attachments in the emails to my POP3 accounts. The first I noticed was on 27 July 2015.
I'm running Thunderbird Version 38.1.0 on Windows on Windows 7 Home Premium service pack 1. After the test, I found that this happens on all POP3 accounts only. IMAP accounts do not work properly.
A single file is usually truncated, if I send several files to get a complete file one truncated and more sent are missing completely.

I wanted to send a bug report, but your system is unusable because it asks us to load the daily accumulation and essay on a new account, but the link to the daily version is going nowhere. But it's ok

    Thanks Matt.
I had no luck by disabling addons, and I found that I'm unable to start in SafeMode (another problem to solve), but in research and the elimination of other culprits (malware) this problem stopped.

  • Start Aurora in the desktop computers and modern views?

Is it possible to launch Aurora into the office modern views and at the same time? When Aurora first introduced the modern vision, launch from a shortcut from the taskbar on the desktop Windows always open the desktop view, while the launch of the tile to start screen launched the modern vision.

    Is it still possible?

The office and the app (modern) "Windows 8 Touch" now share the same profile. This means that you now have access to the same Favorites, history, saved passwords, etc. of these two applications. However, due to a limitation of our profile system, you can't run both at the same time while they share a profile.

However, you can run both at the same time if you first create a separate profile for each application:

    1. Start the Profile Manager, create a profile named "desktop", then exit the Profile Manager.
    2. Create a shortcut to start Firefox with these command line arguments: P - Office - no-remote
    3. Use the shortcut to start Firefox using your profile "desktop."
    4. Use the normal icon of Firefox to run a second copy of Firefox using your default profile.
    5. Set up Firefox Sync if you want two profiles to have the same bookmarks and other data. (Treat the two "computers" as two different profiles following the installation instructions).
    6. In the default profile, use the menu item "restart in Windows 8 Touch' to switch to the modern application.

I'm sorry that this process is so complicated! We want to make it easier to use both applications at the same time, but we will have to make some very complicated changes to our code for this purpose, it is not likely to happen quickly.

For more advice and documentation on the use of profiles, see this article from community on the use of multiple profiles.

  • Mid 2012 MacBook Pro starts only with the external hard drive

I have a MacBook 2012 mid Pro and whenever I try to start it only shows the folder with question mark flashing. But, whenever I plug in my external hard drive, it boots. I also tried selecting the boot drive and the interns don't show, but once in the external plug-in, it shows externally as Macintosh HD. I also tried to reinstall OS X but it says I can't you this player.

    Thank you

While in the drive external hard, that I hope has the same operating system, can you go to utilities utilities disk-file and run a repair of the internal drive and repair permissions? You could also do the same thing in starting mode of recovery-command keys R at startup. Using the recovery disk utilities. If you can't get the internal drive to show everyone, most likely the drive is bad. Then, you will need to replace it.
