  Thanks for your suggestions...  Under Program Files (C drive), I traced the supply of the software Norton 360 under "Setup my PC" and deleted these files.  However, looking at the Norton Removal tool seemed a trifle compkicated and may have caused other problems. So instead, I downloaded the FREE Avast internet security software on my Vista PC and no problem.  Also, prevoiusly, I had successfully installed VIPRE on my other two PC running XP., on a trial period of 15 days.    My idea is to keep things works fine without hassle.

  Running Windows 7 and Norton Security with backup. Upgrade to Firefox 39.0. Notice that Norton toolbar would be handicapped because is is not compatible. Tried to update by these instructions and still Norton toolbar has not been updated to compatible version.
