In the DC series models starting from the IDE hard disk?

In addition to above question - are you able to use sata cd rom on machines that have the ide and sata connectors and boot from the drive hard ide?

Thanks in advance

cpu201

Hello:

The last model that came standard with a HDD IDE was the d530. From the dc7100, primary hard drives are SATA, and starting with the dc7800 is not an IDE connector on the motherboard at all.

You may be able to boot from an IDE hard drive in a dc7700 and earlier versions, but you will need to remove the optical drive to the primary IDE cable position and place it in a secondary position, and that's if you can get the cable to fit. Otherwise, a SATA optical drive must be connected to the SATA 2 port.

The d530 starts natively on the IDE HDD and you can add a SATA optical drive to the sata port 1 and always start from the HARD disk.

  • Move the physical hard disks to new server

First of all, before I have offend anyone wrong, yes there is a back-up. The "Extend reasons" why would I be willing to do this style of rough house upgrade are given below

    Simple explanation of the problem

I have moved the physical hard disks (6 discs in the 0 + 1 array) in a HP Proliant ML350 G6 low for HP DL360 G5.

The hard start and loading VMware 4.0 disks but no network connection. It shows the assigned static IP but no connection to the network.

Also tested network cables. ;-) Firmware update on both boxes

I have improved the VMware ESXi 4.0 to HP VMware hypervisor 5.1(1??) Edition, still no IP connection.

Any Suggestions to get this NETWORK card IP address running?

The drive in the array goes back to the system original and boots with work IP (and upgrading VMware 5.1 too)

    Extent of the reasons

It is a small business with a single physical server, we borrowed a temporary server (used) from our supplier

The current table (6 x 136 GB drives 0 + 1 array) has 408 GB of usable space. The person who made the initial VMware/OS load charge did not increase the block size for the Server Windows Small Business 2008 has a maximum of 320 GB volume

    Which is now max out.

The goal is to have the production server upgraded to (8 x 450 GB drives 0 + 1 array) to 1.8 TB of usable space. Ideally the SBS 2008 will be migrated from the temporary server on the production server with sizes of block appropriate for larger volumes. The intensity of the current SBS has VMware unrelated corruption that would also give reason why we do not want the original charge on the new drives in the production box.

It is also an Exchange Server which is critical for the company, I can't bring down the server for more information, then 1 hour without impact 7 x 24.

The Back-up exists but isn't something suitable like a Veeam but is Microsoft Backup to disk iSCSI

Hi, what I would say to access this server esxi through DCUI and access network configuration. If you can't see the network cards then you can also assign IP address from there for the management and you can also select NIC, you want only for management purposes.

    Thank you

  • Location of the bookmarks on an old hardrive that is not Windows, running but the old hard disk files are accessed through another hard drive.

The old hard disk does not run Windows, so access to the usual file through Windows Explorer or Firefox has not worked for me. The old hard drive is now a slave drive and all files are intact and accessible via the new Windows 7 64-bit operating system.

You have Windows configured to display the hidden files and folders? If not, do it as soon as the first. http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/show-hidden-files#show-hidden-files=Windows-7

Then, what version of Windows do you have on the old drive? Your profile folder must be on the way there:

    Windows XP and earlier versions:

    \Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles

    Windows Vista and later:

    \Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles

If you find multiple profile folders, see the recent order. You find a subfolder named bookmarkbackups. This article describes how to restore the .json files, you will find: restore bookmarks from a backup or move them to another computer.

  • Satellite l.660-12 q - would the recovery disk rebuild the new HARD disk with a new recovery partition

Talk about confusion. Does anyone know how to get a Toshiba C660 work after the HARD drive failed and the owner has stupidly NOT followed the instructions to make a recovery disk. Will be the recovery disk (if buy you one from Toshiba) rebuild the new HARD disk with a new recovery partition and install windows 7 (original OS) and accept the product key printed on the Windows license, attached to the base of the laptop. I have read a number of suggestions, but these have been considered incorrect by others.

Surely, Toshiba must have a way to sort this problem.

    They read these messages?

    Hey Buddy

I don't think it's really complicated, that I could find all the information about the recovery procedure in the user's manual

The recovery disk must be created on the first day of purchase its recommended to create one in case something would be wrong with the HARD drive.

The recovery disk contains an image. The image is a package containing Win system, drivers, tools and all the stuff pre-installed on the notebook.
You bought the laptop and the system has already been activated so that you have need of t the key placed at the bottom of the unit.
In addition, the use of the recovery disc formats the drive HARD integer (partitions too) and set the laptop in the same condition as at the first day of the purchase.

There is also another option to recover the notebook called HARD drive recovery. This HARD drive recovery requires no recovery disk. The recovery disc HARD would be to use format ONLY partition C (System).

  • Is anyway to create fifth partition and keep the basic hard disk?

Hi, my laptop is g7 1207se Pavilion and the and HP has made 4 partitions (C for windows) and the other 3 for system files and recovery, I want to create a new partition for my files (so I can recover my system without losing them) or install other operating systems, but apparently if I want to create fifth partition I have to convert my hard drive in Dynamics by the practice that I won't be able to boot from any partition but the C, which means no recovery and no other operating system.

You could add the second hard disk of 500 GB as a slave and copy your files on the hard disk of 2 TB if its startup. If its not bootable, try to load Windows on it and install the 500 GB drive as a slave and copy your files:

  • The virtual hard disk size

For worker Analyzer IO VM, it is recommended to create a larger second virtual hard disk that serves as a target IOmeter.

Is the size of the virtual hard drive exactly the same workload working set size, which means that all data in the virtual disk is read from or written to storage during the race?

Do you have other recommendations to decide what size the second virtual hard disk should be a VM worker?

    Thank you

    Rebecca

Hi RS_1, it's useful, but I was looking for some additional tips for the user guide.

I received responses from some of the developers of IO parser and also ran a few tests of my own.

Iometer generates its I/O based on the number of blocks of target disc (i.e. the manually added virtual hard disk on the worker VM).  The size of the disk hard virtual will be be equivalent to e/s working set size.

For a virtual hard drive that strikes only cache, a rule would be its size to 100 MB.

For a virtual hard drive that hits the disk, the virtual hard disk could be sized anywhere from 10 GB to the top. The drive, / o most actually hits disc rather than cache.

To do this, I created a 200 GB thin provisioned virtual hard disk for my e/s VM Analyzer worker. As I ran the Iometer workload, I could see the thin disc quickly increase from almost nothing to its size fully provisioned. This means that the new virtual hard disk sectors were continually being read and written by Iometer. Interestingly, it only took about 5 minutes to flesh out a whole 200 GB drive. Obviously, this speed would depend on the type of I/O profile used.

I also tested a 20 GB disk Iometer vs virtual a virtual drive of 200 GB. Average latency, IOPS / s and flow were all better for 20 GB disk - because a greater proportion of e/s in this case was hit the cache, tilt the numbers positively.

So, even at the drive hard virtual, sizes last 10 GB, size of the VHD will affect yet observed performance to Iometer.

  • Read the last sector of the virtual hard disk

    Hello

I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium VM inside VMWare Workstation image. I want to access the last sector of this Virtual Hard Drive. However, I do not within Windows 7 itself.

Instead, I want to start this virtual system using a bootable Livecd. To this end, I can create an ISO using the Windows XP Installation CD and Bart PE Builder.

Now my question is, how do I boot under VmWare Workstation Livecd Bootable using Bart PE created so that I can access the virtual hard disk.

And also, once I started the new system, I want to read this last sector of the virtual hard disk. This is for testing purposes. I know, it could be done on a running system as well however, I want to be able to do this in VmWare Workstation.

I searched the net for a solution. I came across the Disk Explorer utility, which is available here:

    www.Runtime.org/DiskExplorer.htm

In my view, this will allow me to read the last sector and thus copy. It is however an expensive software. They have even a plugin developed to work with BartPE, which is available online here:

    http://www.Runtime.org/diskexplorer_for_ntfs.cab

But we need to provide the license key in the .inf for this file to work.

In any case, I know how to prepare the Windows Bootable Live CD using BartPE.

    Issues related to the:

How to get started in using a windows live CD VMWare?

How to access the virtual hard disk of the Windows 7 operating system?

And finally, are there other alternatives that are easier to explore this disk that would allow me to read the last sector of this virtual hard disk and copy another medium?

    Thank you.

You can try to temporarily adjust the Type of guest OS Linux or edit the .vmx to have these parameters/values or temporarily remove the USB controller.

    usb:0.deviceType = "mouse"
    usb:0.present = "FALSE"

  • Fusion is stopped because the virtual hard disk capacity is reached

I run Windows XP Pro in a virtual machine with the German Fusion 3.1.1 on my MacBook 13 "with Mac OS X 10.6.2.

When I try to start Windows the VM said: "VMware Fusion has the virtual machine is stopped, because the capacity of the hard drive (40 GB) is almost reached."

But this Windows disk management in the first partition 'Win XP Pro' 15 GB to 30 GB are free. And on the second partition 'Install' 8 GB to 10 GB are free.

I took the snapshot on the virtual machine and have managed hard disk cleanup. But it does not help. Fusion said I do free 1.2 MB capacity of the virtual hard disk. How can I do this, when the merger does not start?

The opportunity to make more the virtual hard disk of 40 GB to 50 or 60 GB is blocked, I first have to delete the snapshot. But the snapshot is deleted.

What can I make Fusion work again?

I doubt that what you quoted is the message itself, so it would be more useful if you attach the .log files.  See information for VMware Fusion to help with that.  Howevere...

I bet that the message is more like "VMware Fusion has suspended this virtual machine because the disk on which the virtual machine is stored is almost full. To continue, free at least MB of disk space. "and as such, you must do exactly what means the message and that is free space hard disk Macintosh not space inside the VHD.  After all, it's the Mackintosh HD stored on the Virtual Machine, isn't?

  • How to change the letter on the external HARD disk

My drive external hard was originally on drive F, and with that, I got all my music iTunes also. However, for some reason, my computer stopped recognizing the F drive; the following message appears when you try to open this drive:

"The drive or network connection that designates the shortcut 'F Drive.ink' is not available. Make sure that the disk is properly inserted or the network resource is available and then try again. »

The problem I have now is that the external hard drive is now the G disk and iTunes does not recognize the path (G:\iTunes), I say to use, for example, my music is not loading properly and that a fraction is playable.

Can someone help me with this?

    Hello

I would recommend to change the external drive (g) to F letter.
Do you know how to do this?

After the external HARD disk is connected, you need to access the disk management and you will see the HARD drive (unique partitions) and other readers.
Then you must mark the external HARD disk and should change the letter F.

Perhaps the letter F was reserved for another drive.
In this case, you need to unlock the letter F by assigning another letter to the reader that uses the letter F.

What is raid? A large number of people I know use raids.

RAID 1 (mirroring) is not a backup solution. RAID 1 uses two or
Several readers, each one duplicate of the other, to provide redundancy,
no backup. It is used in situations (almost always inside)
companies, not in homes) where any city cannot be tolerated.
because the way it works is that if a disk fails the other takes
    more seamlessly.

Although some people thing of RAID 1 as a backup technique, it is
what it is, because it is subject to a simultaneous loss of the
original and many of the main dangers facing the mirror
your data - serious power, close to the lightning seeds, virus
attacks, stolen computer, etc. Most companies that use RAID 1
also have a solid plan of external backup in place.

  • Is there a way to increase the size of the virtual hard disk? in the VM? ESXI 4.1

    HelloW to all.

I created VM with the size of the hard drive of 80 GB and now I want to increase the size of the 80 GB to 150 GB drive does not add whit extra 70 GB partition but to increase the patitionn of 80 GB.

Is there a way to increase the size of 150 GB of the virtual hard disk? in the VM? ESXI 4.1

    Thanks in advance.

If the guest operating system is windows, then follow below process-

Scenario-1 his drive is not the boot partition.

    1. click on the settings of the virtual machine

    2. Select the hard drive to increase and give the size you want (don't forget that you should have a free space available on the data store).

    3. go to disk to the virtual machine management, and then rescan disk (you will see the unused space)

    4. open the cmd/command prompt, then run diskpart by using the diskpart command

5 then... the drive... After this list give the command "select disk 1" (1 is the disk you want to expand)

    6. After selecting the disk, type extend (extend order will extend the drive)

    7. exit diskpart.

Scenario-2 If the drive is the boot partition.

    1. power of the virtual machine. (go on change settings of ==> click on the drive you want to extend ==> copy the path of the disc)

    2. go to any other test VM and add disk--> disk existing use ==> give the drive path that you want to extend ==> Assistant to finish.

    3. Select the hard drive to increase and give the size you want (don't forget that you should have a free space available on the data store).

    4. select disk of the virtual machine management, and then rescan disk (you will see the unused space)

    5. open / cmd command prompt, then run diskpart by using the diskpart command

    6. then... the drive... After this list give the command "select disk 1" (1 is the disk you want to expand)

    7. After selecting the disk, type extend (extend order will extend the drive)

    8 exit diskpart.

    9. go to change the setting of this test VM and select the hard drive... ==> click on remove virtual machine. (do not drive delete)

  • Windows 2003 fails to start after the conversion from a virtual hard disk with vSphere Standalone Converter 4.0.1

    Hello

I've recently updated my host to vSphere 4. I've also upgraded to vSphere Converter 4.0.1. However, when I convert a Microsoft Windows 2003 virtual hard drive in vSphere, the resulting virtual machine does not start. He gets just after the BIOS screen, then turns black with only a white line in the upper left corner of the console.

I tried the hot and cold conversions. I tried changing the different settings of default conversion. I tried to remove the source machine and recreate.

It worked well under ESX3.5, so I wonder what I'm doing wrong on vSphere.

    Any help appreciated.

    Thank you.

In v4 disk are in SCSI format only.

Probably also the source was in the SCSI format... so v7 to the IDE format give you not configured in the bootloader of the disks.

I already changed the boot order, but it shows the blue screen and then goes out... help me if you think you have the solution for me...

    Hello

You can not install Windows vista on a USB hard drive. The reason is that manager (Bootmgr) boot will always be on the internal hard drive and will not read the USB drive letter properly and it continues to change.
However, you can install the two HDD internally, and then you can have a dual boot option by adding the entries in startup of the operating system Windows Vista, Startup Manager (boot mgr).
