In Vista, Diskcheck fails at step 4 of 5

Diskcheck fails at step 4 of the way through 5 part... any ideas as to why?

My computer began to crash suddenly tonight. After a check for malware, virus scan and audit of memory, I tried to reboot to check the disc.

It is not on step 4 of 5 75925 audited files. I can't understand what is wrong... not a lot techhead but know my way to keep me going :)

Please help, I also tried to restore the system and to repair windows... all to nothing done :(

Jane

PS Just ask if you want to find another anyting.

Yes - the second way are:

You must have the disk bootable CD (for example Windows PE) - boot from the CD drive. Connect flashdisk, another external hard drive via USB or connect the second internal HDD.

Then you can use the command 'xcopy' or run "Windows Commander"and copy your data from your drive hard defective flashdisk, external hard drive or second internal HARD drive. "

Something Windows PE:

http://en.Wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Preinstallation_Environment

But this is more for the technician. If you are end user, take your computer to the service.

Any other attempt to boot from a probability of decreases of faulty of your data recoverydisk.

  • 800736B 2 of error Code woes. Windows Update (Vista SP2) fails to install a bunch of updates

    I know that this problem was posted a lot everywhere on the internet (even here), but I would like to explain a little better than everyone else and maybe I can somehow get to the bottom of this.

    The problem:

    I am trying to update my acer 4/5 years, grandfathers aspire running Windows Vista. Whenever I try to install the following updates:

    http://i.imgur.com/SBxv8.jpg

    I get 6 updates installation failed with error code 800736B 2. When I turn the computer off, he pretended to go through the process of 'completion' facilities update 6 (you know what I mean, it says after that windows has disconnected the user is installing updates). It takes about 15 minutes, then when I re - turn on the computer and check the updates again the exact same updates are always listed.

    The attempts of a solution:

    I downloaded and used the update tool for Windows Vista (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821) system. It shows the exact symptoms of the same as the rest of the updates. It "installs" (which lasts about an hour. Said it was successful. Then I restart the computer, it 'full' Update 1 on 1 which have been installed, when I opened the tool (after reboot), it says that I have to reinstall the same update (KB947821). So obviously it cannot be installed but for some reason any thought that he didn't.

    I also tried to run this tool in safe mode and had an error that says that I can't run it in safe mode. Sweet.

    I wanted to download the updates manually (I was hoping that they would be in the form of some .exe or something) then run their safe mode, since you can't use windows update in safe mode. I looked around online a lot, but could not find a way to download the updates manually. I found a bunch of guides tell me how to do, but non of them work. My guess is that they removed the support for it.

    If anyone has any ideas as to what I can do without having to reinstall windows it would be awesome. My grandfather is really exhausted all of this current vista installation so wipe everying is probably a bad idea. I would like to avoid it at all costs.

    Hi HeshamEtaby,

    Thanks for posting your query in the Microsoft Community Forums!

    Of after the description of problem that I understand that you can not install windows update on the windows vista computer, and it's back to the desktop.

    -What do you mean "I have in the start menu of note pad, calculator and backup and Restore Center"?

    This give a try.

    Method 1

    Run the fix of the article.
    The problem with Microsoft Windows Update is not working

    Method 2
    Try to install the update in a clean boot state.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929135
    Note: After a repair, be sure to set the computer to start as usual as mentioned in step 3 in the Knowledge Base article.

    Method 3
    The problem can also be caused by your security such as anti-virus program that can have conflicting parameters as to not not to perform certain tasks. I suggest you temporary disable the anti-virus and check the result again. You must activate new security that you was disabled programs.
    Disable the antivirus software:
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/disable-antivirus-software

    Once we install the updates, please turn on the firewall.

    Important note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you need to disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network, while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

    Method 4

    Refer to the help article and check if that helps.

    I started the computer, still had to make choices to complete the installation and then power went. If the Vista installation has failed. It says 'install again', but since I don't have any DVD, what can I do?

    I agree with sascha. To be honest is none other than the first option. Just try to start the HARD drive recovery process. I hope that the next time you're lucky and also able to install and start Vista.

I installed the latest version of Windows Update, I renamed directories distribution Catroot2 and software. Alan,
    You execute all stages of this link as Halima provided: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947366
    Specifically have you tried 3 and 4 of the resolution?  If this isn't the case, then try them.
    If so, then try this:
    Disconnect all external devices (except keyboard and mouse)
    Perform a clean boot , and then download the stand-alone SP1 (which looks like you already have it).
    Disconnect from the internet, and then try to install SP1.

    If this still fails, check the error code and after that you have achieved.  You can also consider the possibility that you have a virus\malware infection.  Take a look at these links.

  • Upgrade Vista SP2 stops at step 3-0%

    Hello
    My Dell XPS M1330 laptop is running Vista and I've updated with SP2. All went well until it restarted and began to step 3. It says 0% and nothing happens. After a minute or two, the computer restarts and returns to the same step it over again and again...
    I can't get this thing. I tried F8 on the start menu to the top and select all the alternatives, but everyone leads to step 3-0%... and restart. What can I do? I'm furious.

    Try typing F8 at startup and in the list of Boot selections, select Mode safe using ARROW top to go there > and then press ENTER.

    Try a restore of the system once, to choose a Restore Point prior to your problem...

    Click Start > programs > Accessories > system tools > system restore > choose another time > next > etc.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    If the above does not work, try to make a Bootable ERD to do a Startup Repair:
    As is the case with most computers/laptops these days, they do not come with good Vista disc to repair only the recovery disks.
    As your grave in the category above, download the ISO on the provided link and do a repair of the disc.
    Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.
    At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu.
    When you have changed that, insert the Bootable disk you did in the drive and reboot.
    You can make a tool to restart system, System Restore, etc. with it.
    Read all the info on the website on how to create and use it.
