Incomplete restore of the backup bookmark

Save my Firefox bookmarks in the correct way to "import and backup" button in Firefox. He created a JSON file. But when I tried to restore my Firefox (same version) in another computer, nearly half of my bookmarks (links and folders) are missing.

I checked the JSON file and I see of course that all is there since the original browser. But the feature of "restore" (NOT "import") in Firefox does not recover all of the data in the JSON file.

In any way that the JSON file has been modified. Why?

Try to delete or rename the places.sqlite file run and see if it works better with a soft places.sqlite that Firefox will create.

You can also check the JSON backup content to see what text is in the position where the import stops.

You can open the file in Notepad (Firefox/tools > Web Developer) and click on the "Pretty Print" button for easier inspection.

I use Firefox in Swedish, but I think that these English terms:

I did a back-up of my bookmarks in Firefox before I formated my PC, which resulted in this file: "bookmarks-2013-03-31". It's not an HTML-file and I think neither an JSON-file. When I'm now trying to "recover" the bookmarks from this file, it say's that the file-type isn't supported. What the heck?!? A back-up file that isn't supported by it's own program??!?
(I just did a quick and simple back-up, and am now trying to restore it. It shouldn't be any problem, as I see it).

Make sure that the bookmarks backup file has the correct file extension:

    • .html for HTML backup
    • . JSON for JSON backup

You can check the type via the context menu of that file and open properties.

If you are unsure of the type of file, then you can open the file in Firefox via "file > open a file.
A JSON backup will appear as a single line of text without line breaks and one backup HTML in a web page with clickable links.

    A JSON backup begins with: {"title": "","id": 1, "dateAdded": }

An HTML backup begins with: <! DOCTYPE NETSCAPE-Bookmark-leader-1 >

Add quotation marks ("" ") around the name to rename the file with the correct file extension if the current file extension is hidden, or if she does not work otherwise.

Check the file type in the properties using the context menu to make sure that the change was successful.

  • I used the backup and restore of the backup C on pc. Then tried to open saved files with IE and started acting weird.

I used the backup and restore of the backup C on pc.  Then tried to open the files saved with IE.  IE went into free fall.  ???

I have no idea what opened the backup files when you have double-clicked, or if you will not quote you took after doing this...  However, the official way to 'Browse' the content of the backup...

You can view the contents of your backup by opening the wizard to restore files.

    1. Open backup and restore by clicking on the button start , clicking Control Panel, clicking system and Maintenance and then click Backup and restore.

    2. Do one of the following:

      • To view your files, click Restore my files.

      • To display files all the, click on restore files for all users. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

    3. Do one of the following:

      • To browse the contents of the backup, click Browse for files or click Browse for folders.

When you browse folders, you will not be able to see the files in a folder. To view individual files, use her browse for files option.

      • To search the contents of the backup, click search, type all or part of a file name, and then click search.

With regard to the rate of success vs. failure rate of backup - it is difficult to measure.  Indeed most of the people backs up incorrectly.  It's really * not * enough to set a backup and forget about it.  If you test ever that your backups work/glance to see if you are backing up the good thing - it's just not wise.  Although most people expect that it is essential that the backups were working properly (not a test, a real emergency) to be discovered.  Most individuals who report failures, unfortunately, fall into this category "when my aircraft crashed and I went to my backups - it turns out _ backup _ does not and never told me...» ».

A question... If you manually create a ZIP file (not a backup) - can you still Explorer in it as a folder?

To test... Create a folder on your desktop.  Copy some files into it - of different types.  I say COPY and not MOVE on the goal here - because you can just blow this folder and all that results from this folder later if it was all fair copies of things.

Make a right click on this folder and choose "send to" and "compress (ZIP) file and give a name to the new 'folder '.  (It's really a file.)  On your desktop, you should have the original folder you created and copied some stuff in, and a new "folder" with the name you just gave.  If you open the 'new' folder - you should see the name of the folder that is still on the desktop and go to this folder, you should see the files.  You literally use Windows Vista to the 'discovery' inside a ZIP file as if it were a folder.

  • A few bookmarks do not show so I asked to restore (in the menu bookmark)-now all disappeared. What files are stored bookmarks in (in the system) so I can use time machine to restore from an earlier date?

I do a lot of work on the web and I have a ton of bookmarks that I use to maintain sites. I lost all!

I tried to install a new copy of the program and restore the file Mozilla from the library to the user (in time machine), but all I have is a white space where was the bookmarks bar! I also have a problem trying to re-enter manually all bookmarks. I can open the bookmark drop down, but I can't save all bookmarks. Firefox don't mark all new pages. I still all the passwords in the preferences if I don't want to install a new copy of the program and lose these.

Are there other system files that Firefox uses that I can restore the backup to solve the problem?
I have a Mac Pro and I am OSX 10.6.4
I have used Firefox for years and never had a problem before.
    Can anyone help - please?

This may be a problem with the places.sqlite file that stores the bookmarks and history.

  • Restore, recover the backup hot inevitably will be OPEN RESETLOGS

    DB version: 11.2
    Platform: Solaris / AIX

Cold backup is performed when the DB is in editing mode, and when no recovery is generated during the backup.
So when you restore this backup, you can open the database with
    alter database open;
But when we take the backup hot of a DB, we will never be able to redo backup generated in restoration online logs when the hot backup. Thus, during recovery, we can apply only archived redo logs from the source DB and we are obliged to skip applying entries online to the DB of the Source again.
Thus, hot backup recovery will inevitably end up by in OPEN RESETLOGS.
    alter database open resetlogs
    These assumptions are good?

If you restore and recover to the same server with the current controlfile and remake online still present newspapers, you would be able to make a full recovery. In such a case it is not necessary to OPEN RESETLOGS.
All other cases of hot backup are incomplete recoveries and require an OPEN RESETLOGS.

In the case of a cold backup taken by RMAN, you should always an OPEN RESETLOGS because RMAN does not include online of Redo Log files.

  • I backed up my iPhone 3GS on iTunes. Back up seemed to go OK. iTunes then prompted me to update the iOS that I did. The phone then crashed. I did a factory restore. The backup that I did was not there. Can I recover the loss upward in anyway?

I backed up my iPhone 3GS on iTunes. Back up seemed to go OK. ITunes then prompted me to update the iOS that I did. The update failed. My phone broke. The only option available was to restore to factory settings I've done. The back up I had made was not available for restore. It contains precious family photos and videos. Is anyway to recover the lost or any part of it from my PC Backup? Any help would be appreciated. Best wishes Giles

If you go to iTunes and watch your backups, you don't see one that was made today? Did you see an indication of the backup was not successful? What version of iOS is the device that you have been asked to update? It was not an iOS for the iPhone 3GS update in a while. Regarding the photos and videos, you had never taken the time to import them on the computer?

Microsoft window came up with message that my HD was 'BAD', and I have to back up the files and replace HD.  I chose the option to back up all the files on a flash drive.

I have now replaced the HD and run the recovery discs.

When I insert the flash drive it contains a file 'OWNER-PC.'

Open this file, there is another file: "Backup Set 2010-11-01..."

Open this file, I find: "backup files 2010-11-0.

This file contains 19 files: "Save files 1" by "backup Files19".

Each of these files contain files and each of them contain files.

  • How to restore with the restoration of the backup?

Had a problem with my system.  So I had to restore.  He asked me if I wanted to do a backup before I restored it. I said yes.  The computer has been restored to factory settings.  I put the backup drive to get all the info I had before.  He made a shortcut of the restoration.  So what I do NOW?

If this backup was part of the process of recovering back to settings factory, contact the manufacturer of your computer.

It is the process of recovering from the manufacturer, not Microsoft.

  • My Favorites are lost and Firefox can not restore from backup with this error msg "Unable to deal with the backup file.". Someone please help.

I use Firefox 12 on my Macbook Pro, it crashed and when I rebooted, all my favorites have disappeared. When I tried to restore from the backup files, he returns with "Failed to process the backup file." Someone help please I would have lost years of bookmarks.

    Thank you

    Hi guys,.
I also experienced this problem and based on the previous explanation in one of the threads here I got the following article - http://kb.mozillazine.org/Unable_to_process_the_backup_file_-_Firefox

I myself have deleted only the file places.sqlite and places.sqlite.corrupt from the profile directory and was able to import my favorites since the backup file successfully.

  • All my favorites lost their URLs. You try to restore a backup has failed with "failed to process the backup file". It's beta channel 10 of Firefox. Does anyone have a solution?

Initially, the list of bookmarks included all my favorites, but they had an empty box for their icon and clicking the Properties window showed no name or URL. Click on the bookmark itself was simply ignored. I went to restore from a backup bookmarks - backups are displayed for each day, but choose one gives an error. It has also removed from the list of bookmarks.

One possible cause is a problem with the places.sqlite file that stores the bookmarks and history.

  • Restore the backup after using a temporary machine for 2 months?

I had a problem with my MBP that had a new motherboard fitted.

Before he went to the interview, I did a full backup and for the 6 weeks have used a temporary MBAir.  When I started to use Air, I have a full restore from backup that I thought that I would need only there for about 1 week.  I copied all my work files needed overall, but don't mind not upload any music, photos, etc.

I now have my MBP back and need to restore from the backup, BUT I also want to be able to synchronize all my work files, so that new files, I added to my working directories or keep the files that I have updated in the last 6 weeks.

Any advice on how to do this, please?

Very difficult. Above all, it should only be done manually.

On the laptop with clean OS... assistant migration allows to recover your files in the backup.

The MBA, copy the files to the MBP... easy enough for documents etc... hard work with emails... etc.

  • Cannot open the program after you restore the backup of the files.

original title: problems of recovery program

I had to do a system recovery. When the files have been restored from the backup made on to the DVD-they do not repopulate the original sites, that is to say the restoration has created a section of program in the C drive, but it had only the value default ones that came with the computer since the store - as it was supposed to, given was a cover. However, all of the programs I've added over the years are stuck in the restore file called "Program Files" as most have been downloaded since the ' net, I have no disks. not only that most is time sensitive and have many improvements. How can the Backed files program, now residing in 'My Documents', developed by the backup process located in the C drive program area? When I try to open the program in the restore file, the content and details are listed, but the program does not work. Thanks for any information.

    Hey Dave to Campbell River.

I'm a bit confused between your question and the answer. Have you already restored your system or if you are trying to implement and obtain information?
In response to the original question, you can back up your entire hard drive, back up is called a System Image, it will be, as it is said, back up your system.
A system backup / full copying data files, but not everything on the drive. You cannot use it to restore the entire system.
I hope that sheds some light on it for you. And fear what (I'm trying to follow the number two of the answer now) you created a backup system, and are now trying to re access to your program files, I'm afraid, you're out of luck. I had to learn the hard way, too, so I hope you are getting information and are not in this situation.
Hope this has been useful, if you have any other questions, feel free to keep coming them.
    Thanks for posting of answers!
