  • Merger of converter for workstation or ESX

    Hello!

Is it possible to do a Fusion converter for workstation or ESX?

Anyone know of any option or howto?

    Thank you.

When you create the virtual machine in workstation, you just place the vmdk file in the virtual machine folder and point to it (use an existing hard disk) disk.

I'm trying to move the entire folder from mac to windows in order to verify if the virtual machine still works or not, but I think the .vmx file mac file must be different from the .vmx file in windows, because they use different types of partion, disk, system files and files speaking.

Yes, you can use the converter to convert your VM workstation or Fusion to the ESX format. (see this link)

  • Can I access physical disks inside VMware Workstation?

    Hey there,

I'm curious to know if it is possible to access the physical hard drives within a real operating system.  Lets say I am running Windows XP inside VMware workstation and I have an additional physical hard drive installed in my computer (we'll call it E drive in the operating system of the host that is Windows Vista).

I want to access drive E in the virtual Windows XP for storage space.  Is it possible to do?

    Now suppose another scenerio,

I have drive G in my host OS and it contains all sorts of delicious data I want to see the inside of my virtual Windows XP and maybe even add some other delicious from within the virutal OS files.  Is this also possible?

Thanks in advance, I did a lot of research and could not find anything regarding these issues.

The answer is Yes.  Under the parameters of the virtual machine, you can add, and then select the physical disk, and choose the drive to mount.  It's good if you have a physical drive side that does not use the computer itself.

Now if you want to just copy or move files 1-2 here and there in your physical machine to the virtual, you can still drag and drop between two desktop computers.  Another great way to transfer files is to do it via network shares.  I wouldn't ride the host o/s of hard disk to the virtual machine to a few files and then just pull...

  • Run 64-bit VM 7 Workstation in ESX 4 VM

I've been scratching my head for the past few hours to see if it was possible to run VMware workstation within an ESX 4 VM. Our desktop deployment team wants to create their basic images to deploy outside (as Ghost) within the server that is virtualized. So far, I found the guide to enable vmware workstation in a machine virtual esx - http://communities.vmware.com/docs/DOC-8970

Are there tricks to allow 64-bit workstation vms in this scenario?

I also noticed that if you run a CPU checker, it reports that the CPU is not VT enabled inside the virtual machine, but the external host is enabled. ESX removes access VT of the guest OS? I'm sure we can come to a workaround, but I'm just curious of my knowledge... Thank you!

Simply create your golden VM image directly into a virtual ESX (i) machine. You can use vCenter converter 4.2 to convert the VM ESXi virtual Workstation machine, if necessary. The project I support is likely going to go that route... master VM on ESXi, convert VM Workstation, then capture/deploy with SmartDeploy.

I think the answer is that you cannot import SUSE 11 VM to ESX 3.5 but I hope that this is NOT the case that I really really really need this virtual machine published in our ESX infrastructure. If this method will not work is there other options?

Do not use the plugin.  It does not yet support Linux.  Although this error may occur, the import process should work again as the previous system was a virtual machine.

If you are using the standalone version, treat the source like other / workstation, point to the VMX.  You can get an error, that's fine.  It must still allow you to process the import of ESX.

Last solution... Turn on the virtual machine and use the stand-alone converter to target IP address of the SUSE operating system inside the guest.  It treats like physics (step 1) and imports to ESX as usual.

    Kind regards

  • Running under Workstation 7 ESX 3.5

I know you can run vSphere under my computer, but I would like to run ESX 3.5. Can I use the same process used to load it on the old 6.0 versions or is there a better way?

Open the create new virtual machine Wizard and create an ESX 4 VM - you can then reduce the amount of RAM virtual in case it's needed / wanted.

  • Students who need assistance for a virtual machine to run on hyper-v inside vmware workstation 12

OK sorry first time here. I am currently a student and I have windows running R2 server 2008 as a Workstation VM. I activated the Hyper-v technology and got of no problem, the question I meet is that when I go to start a virtual machine, hyper v, I get the error failed to initialize. Initially, I had a mistake before, who told me he failed because he would not score, I think I've fixed this error by changing the. VMX file. I need to be able to start these machines virtual hyper-v because I am doing some laboratories for a class. Ideas, suggestions or help would be appreciated.

Thank you for taking the time to read. I have attached a few screenshots of the error.

Your processor is a Haswell, that supports AVX.  This problem occurs because Windows Server 2008 R2 does not support the AVX feature. See https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2517374 for a fix or a workaround.

  • How to import a VM from workstation to esx 4

I have a win 2008 server that I set up in my computer, and I'd like to import into ESX 4... is there a specific way to do it, or just pretty much copy all the folder with the vm for the data store

I would like to use VMware vCenter Converter to enter the guest in your ESX4 host.

  • Inside the VM, determine if it is ESX or workstation

    Hello

Is it possible by program within a virtual machine if it runs from WMWare Workstation or ESX?

I'm not really familiar with Visual Studio, and I understand that only the 32-bit Windows C compiler supports inline assembly.  If you use the Windows 64-bit compiler, you may need to use a stand-alone assembler.  The basic idea is:

load the register eax with 0x564D5868%

    load with 10% ecx register

    load the registry % edx with 0 x 5658

Run the statement 'in %EAX, dx.

Then watch % ecx register.  A value of 2 indicates ESX and a value of 4 indicates the workstation.

  • Best Linux for host? ... and ESX vs. Workstation

I've been running VM Workstation since 1999.  I just built a physical machine for my lab at home I want to only run on VMS.  I have two questions.

What is the best linux for VM Workstation 8 host?

I went the compatitibility guide at:

    http://PartnerWeb.VMware.com/comp_guide2/search.php?deviceCategory=software & testConfig = 17

    and put:

    Workstation

    8.0

    all the

    all the

    Linux

    Desktop

    64

and it happens with Mandriva and SUSE.  It's weird.  No Red Hat?  No Ubuntu?  No Debian?  Mandriva is a French company funded by the Russians, which hurts me a little inside, and SUSE is not free.  It makes me wonder if this page is current.

Which leads to my next question. ... Are there not some hypervisor product that does not even need a host operating system?  What ESX?  I can get all the features of Workstation (snapshots, etc.) with this hypervisor product? ... and of course, I can't spend $2,000 for a lab at home.   It seems to me that to remember that one of these products is free,... was it ESXi?  Can someone explain the differences between the workstation and ESX in a few sentences.  But if I need the version ESX is $2000, then too bad.

I suppose that, ideally, I would like to install Workstation as a hypervisor (no host operating system).  Is there anyway to achieve this?  What do you suggest me?

ESXi uses a very minimal video driver - a computer display virtual itself is not possible
This is why you must use a second physical machine to view virtual machines

inside the virtual machines, you get only a virtual video card - playing the latest games inside a virtual machine is not possible

    > or that, it cannot run on an i7? ... once again, really?

This is not correct - do not know who told you that...
ESXi is very picky when it comes to disk controllers - fake Raids and cheap stuff is not supported - but it will work with normal SATA drives
