  Three years ago, I bought a Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop. Never met a problem until I tried to install Windows Vista Service Pack 2.   I tried to follow your steps as carefully as I could.  I'm sorry to report that it did not work.  What I finally had to do was to make a back up and restore.  I backed up before 3 days, which was a bunch of Windows updates.  I probably lost all updates but guess what - the warning box has disappeared.
