Install a VSA on the esxi who already has virtual machine running host

Hi all

I have install VSA if my esxi has already running virtual machine host, I read some post saying that before the VSA, the esxi Server installation must be clean without any host virtual machine created, is - it true?

Hello

I already answered you on a previous post.

  • the back and are not virtual machines running on Isilon

    Hello vExperts.

    Could someone please share the details of the back and to not execution of virtual machines on EMC Isilon...

    We have a problem of IOPS / serious storage s, don't have just enough time zones and no money in the budget for more, but we have an Isilon with certain capabilities, I don't have all the details in front of me that I write this message about what nodes and others look like but soon as I have them I will add them in the post.

    For now, if someone wants to throw me some knowledge around deployment of virtual machines on Isilon before blindly go us in that direction that would be great

    Thanks for you input in advance!

    In short: not to run virtual machines on Isilon.  Been there, done that, didn't like it much at all.  You will cause you grief.

    We tried with KVM and ESXi and neither works well. EMC has tried to run, but even their its saying not to.

    I love Isilon but not not for hosting virtual machines.

    Hello

    Please see the FAQ section of this link: download and install Adobe Creative Cloud applications

    NOTE: We suggest to install the application on the primary drive however, you can configure the destination of installation of in creative cloud application preferences. Please note that there will always be shared resources stored on your primary drive. In addition when installing temporary process files will also be created on your main drive.

    If you have already installed Photoshop and Lightroom, you will need to uninstall and do location changes to Creative Cloud Desktop app after that, restart the machine and now install Photoshop again once and it should install on you new chosen location.

    I would like stable windows in a virtual machine running from linux and run my VI labview and make the acquisition from there.  I tried once using Windows XP 32 - bit virtualized on ubuntu 64-bit, with Virtualbox, but windows setup does not recognize my card PCI-MIO-16-4.  Maybe its because I had not installed the linux drivers... I do not know.  Soon I will start using an FPGA 7853R with the PXI-1036 chassis and would prefer if my Windows installation virutalized could see this material.

  • Can I use the same windows on my virtual machine?

    I had windows pre-installed in my dell laptop (Latitude E6420). I did not have the cd key but I extracted using a program called Magical jelly bean key finder. Now, I have the following information on my windows installation

    Windows 7 Professional Service Pack 1
    Product no.: XXXXXXXX
    Installed from media "OEM."
    Product ID: XXXXX-OEM-XXXXXXXX
    CD Key: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
    Computer name: XXXXX
    Registered owner: XXXXX
    Registered organization: Microsoft
    Now, I want to install linux on my machine and use the current windows in a virtual machine inside the linux host. Is is possible if I completely uninstall this windows of my computer and reinstall the virtual machine with the same key?
    I'm not very familiar with this also can someone guide me what are the steps I have to take if this is possible.

    Hi Andre,

    Thank you for your answer, but this does not completely answer my question. I also read that OEM installation does not install the same windows on another machine (virtual machine is like different machine even if I do this on the same machine) and installation of the mine is OEM type.

    More important still, how install windows in the virtual environment? If I format the computer and install linux, in addition to this install virualbox and install inside windows that use the cd - key and it will work. ? I doubt it because the windows is already activated in this machine.

    The extract of the contract (EULA) for Windows 7 and applies to the retail and OEM of Windows 7 versions. So, Yes, you can reinstall it in a Virtual Machine.

    Yes, you will need to format the machine under Linux, then reinstall Windows 7 in a computer program virtual suitable as Oracle Virtual Box 4.2, VMWare Player 5.0 or VMWare Workstation. You can then use the product key located on the COA sticker to reactivate the license.

  • What is the best way to restore virtual machines after a refresh of the server

    Hi all

    First time poster here. A group of people at my work have their own VMWare environment which they install later. It has 3 virtual machines running on it, and they want to set up a fourth. Unfortunately the new machine, they want to put in place is going to be almost 1 TB in size, and they initially setup the VMFS datastore to 1 MB, which means that a machine can be as large as 256GB.

    Research, it seems that there is absolutely no way to work around this problem, except to redo the data store. Is this correct? If this is the case, I was looking at a way to save the three current machines and to reload them after it is updated. A way that I thought was to go browse the data store and copy all the files on my local machine to the virtual machine (.nvram, hard, .vmx etx... all the files), wipeout and redo the ESXi host with the correct setting of data store, build the machines VMS in vSphere, and then replace the files with those copied. This works perfectly? I don't see a lot of information out there about it and I want to make sure that I have not to spoil the VMs. This environment consists of 1 ESXi host with all the local storage (2 TB).

    Also, if anyone knows a better way to do this, please feel free to give your comments. I would really appreciate it.

    Thank you

    Hello

    Welcome to the community!

    Research, it seems that there is absolutely no way to work around this problem, except to redo the data store. Is this correct?

    Yes, unfortunately there no way to change the block size of the datastore to vmfs without reformatting.

    Yes, it will work. You have just to copy all files in this VMFS datastore to a place safe and download once the block size has increased. Once the download is complete, navigate to the virtual machine, the virtual machine folder right click and save the VMX.

    You can find the steps to change the size of the block VMFS in this KB. VMware KB: block the size of a VMFS data store limitations

    Here's the situation:

    I create a Site Recovery Manager using Workstation 7.1 laboratory the problem that I am running is that I can not create a virtual machine inside the ESXi 4.1 VM that runs as a virtual machine inside the 64-bit workstation.  The physical host has active VT and Workstation 7.1 has no problem with 64 bit installed just fine as the ESXi 4.1 virtual computer.  I want to run the vCenter / SRM VM inside VM ESXi, but it seems that I might have to return to the vCenter 4.0 so / SRM can be 32-bit?

  • Virtual machines, run extremely slow when the console is consulted 2 virtual machines Windows Server 2008 64-bit, Windows Server 2003 32-bit, 2 VMWare for virtual machine

    I'm in a difficult situtaition here.  I am the daily contact with a new client.  My linux guy, who is also my boss who is very busy, asked me to do some research trying to find answers for what's not on this server. We have a dual Quad Core 2.5 Ghz Lenovo server with 10 GB of ram.  2 500 GB hard drives are Raid 1.  We run Virtual Server VMWare 2 on a Debian with Gnome installation as a user interface for the side of things Linux.  Grub is the boot loader. There are two virtual machines running on the server.  The one machine that serves as a domain controller is a Windows SBS 2008 Server 64 bit, and the secondary machine has no responsibility domain.  The second machine is a Windows Server 2003 32-bit.  the 10 GB of ram 6 GB is allocated to the SBS server and 4 GB to the 2003 server.

    The problem I am running into is that everything is so slow, especially if I connect remotely to do any sort of administration on the network.  Some examples of issues I've noticed is that as soon as I log on the server via Remote Desktop SBS console management Windows Server spike to 80-95% CPU usage and it will not stop unless I close the management console.  Another instance is that if I open Backup Exec 12.5 on the SBS server it will kill the speed of the processor as well.  Long story short, there are a lot of machine to do what we need to do, but something is not configured right and non of us know what it is.  Another point to note is that the server has been in production for about 3 weeks, and the server seemed to have locked up just twice.  My professional guess is that over time, some chose thing is eating causing the crash of the memory.

    Sorry I do not have much technical insight on this topic, but this is the best I have to offer.  Any questions you all have, I'll ask my people and see if I can answer, but I could really use your help here.

    Thank you in advance,

    Heath

    2 things:

    1 you really need hard drives more than 2 in a RAID 1 for proper performance under load. More disks the better. Although I don't think that's what your problem is, he'll probably be the problem Next you will do.

    2. I don't know exactly where the configuration file is on your box of Debian for VMware Server, but you should consider adding the following options in the configuration file (on windows, it's the vmware 'config.ini'):

    prefvmx.minVmMemPct = "100".

    MemTrimRate = 0

    sched.mem.pshare.Enable = "FALSE".

    mainMem.useNamedFile = "FALSE".

    If you do some research, you can read about what these options (the largest is the memory page sharing - it should only be left on if you have a bunch of similar virtual machines running on the same box, that you don't have.) I honestly know why this is on by default, he kills the CPU when virtual machines are running different operating systems). These are the options that I now use standard in VMware Server deployments, with huge performance increases after you have added the. Just give a try.

    Edit: Also make sure that you have installed in your virtual machines VMware tools.

  • Virtual machine running on snapshot but there are no spanpshot on the Snapshot Manager.

    Hi all,

    After a backup with VMware Data Recovery failure (error-3960 cannot suspend virtual machine), I have a virtual machine running on snapshot (see attachment) but there is no snapshot on the Snapshot Manager. Is the command to "consolidate" (I have never used this feature) the solution?

    Thank you.

    Marco.

    OK let me explain.

    As the chain of snapshot is not displayed in snapshot Manager, you can correct this problem in two ways.

    1 engage the snapshot command line. If you are uncomfortable in the command line, follow this KB KB VMware: commit snapshots on ESXi host command line if you are not comfortable follow step 2.

    2. create a new snapshot for this virtual machine (this will create a chain of snapshot, and you can see the snapshot in the Snapshot Manager), once the snapshot is created successfully. You can remove the snapshot in the Snapshot Manager.

    Hope this is clear. Let me know if not

  • Large SQL virtual machines running on ESXi

    Hello

    When you decide to run or do not run large SQL VMs on ESXi, what are the points that you take into consideration?

    -How much memory physical RAM more should the ESXi host at least have in relation to the virtual machine? If I have a Go 96 VM on a host of 144 GB, you would use this room for other virtual machines as well? Would you go to bigger hosts? Or that you would a one-VM-host?

    -In a "a virtual machine by host" scenario, is there still a sufficient reasons to virtualize the VM? VMotion, the portability of the virtual machine, adding disks, disks, resizing easy resize memory still reason enough to virtualize this VM?

    -When I add now Microsoft clustering in the equation, killing VMotion and flexibility, it is always possible to virtualize this SQL Server?

    I know how capable ESXi is the delivery of this workload. I have the white papers of performance on HOW to virtualize SQL successfully. My question is above all on: If you...

    It is like arguing about policy; There are people with all kinds of views and a large part of it boils down to personal opinions. Some things to consider;

    (1) you do not mention how CRITICISM (aversion to downtime) is the database. If it is super important, certainly looking to HA or even fault tolerance. This increases considerably resources on a virtual machine.

    (2) even if you use one approach "a virtual machine by host", you must make sure that the availability on OTHER hosts in the case where HA is triggered.  So you have basically two hosts per VM

    (3) in view of the above, and how this intensifies that you get in redundancy, HA and FT, you can compare the cost a cluster HA environment.

    We personally, it is facing a prior work. We went with material in the physical server cluster.  In my opinion, if the server is simply great, but didn't need to HA or FT, then I would consider virtualization it. If she needs these features, the fresh material support worsen significantly. Size alone is not a huge problem, assuming you have the SAN space or storage. I am currently supports environments with virtual machines that are more than 1 TB and will work perfectly.

    I hope this helps.
