Hi, for some reason my son decided to install Linus mint on a borrowed laptop computer that had Windows Vista installed. Is it possible to regain the Widows Vista laptop and the removal of Linux Mint. Unfortunately, we do not have a startup disk or one for Vista recovery disk. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

The first thing you'll need to do is to contact the manufacturer of your laptop and
see if there is a recovery mode which can be used without the DVD.

Their web site can also have details on this process and will be easier and
    faster access.

It is possible, there is one but when your son installed the second operating
system, he deleted this ability, so you will need to order a replacement set
the installation discs for the manufacturer.

  • HP3521: HPLIP install not on Linux Mint 18 with XFCE

I try to install HPLIP on a laptop Dell Latitude D510 with Linux MInt 18 with freshly installed XFCE.  Towards the end of the HPLIP installation, I get the following error message:

Printer driver HP HPLIP installs not entirely:

error: a required dependency "libtool (libtool - library support services building)" is still missing.

How 'manually install' this dependence and continue installing HPLIP?  The printer will print with the usb cord but I can't print or scan wireless. The hp-setup 192.168.1.117 command no longer works...

    Thank you.

    apt - get install libtool-bin

It worked.  HPLIP now installs fine.  The problem is perhaps hplip - 3.16.7.run.  You can check...

  • How to install check speller of the Serbian language in Linux Mint

Hello, I use Thunderbird 31.6.0 on my Linux Mint 17. I tried to follow the instructions that are on this web site to install dictionaries new Auditors of spelling, but it does not work. It is said that it is not available for my platform. However on my Windows computer it says that this version is not supported. In the comments of this page in someone explained workaround. You need to download the add-on, rename the .zip extension, unzip it and copy the files unpacked in C:/Program Files/Mozilla Thunderbird/dictionaries. I did and it worked!

Is it possible to do a similar thing with Thunderbird for Linux Mint?

I wanted to do the same trick but I didn't know where is the Linux dictionaries folder.
I did some research on Google and understand. So here's how to do it:

    1. go on here https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/%D1%81%D1%80%D0%BF%D1%81%D0%BA%D0%B8-%D1%80%D0%B5%D1%87%D0%BD%D0%B8%D0%BA-serbian-dictiona/

    2. right click > save link as
    3. you will get a file as, rename the file and be sure to make it .zip
    4. unzip the
    5. in this new folder as you open dictionaries folder and copy all the files you have there
6 open your file manager and go to/usr/lib/firefox/dictionaries
7 stick y files you just cope, you do need to root premison to do so then right click in the window > open as root and then paste it

That's it, you'll have dictionaries for Firefox and Thunderbird.

  • Installing Oracle 12 c in Linux Mint 17.1

    Hello world

I try to install Oracle 12 c on Linux mint 17.1. I get a lot of questions of RPM during installation. Someone has Setup on this operating system or any documentation associated with it?

    Thanks in advance.

If you do not go with OEL (as suggests) installs Oracle is cleaner on a derivation of RHEL, CentOS / something on the same stream. Installation on other distributions can get difficult, if need be reason see about hosting on a VM in the Mint, unless there is a specific you operational need it. Mint is mainly for the user interface, or is there another reason you use?

  • How to install VMware tools correctly on Linux Mint 15 cinnamon on Fusion 5.0.3

    Hello

First of all, I understand that Linux Mint is not supported (side: anyone know if this will change?), so I appreciate any help.  My main problem is with the folders shared

    Dead ends

So far, I've run into some dead ends:

    1. I watched install VMware Tools in Linux Mint 15 cinnamon (Olivia) - YouTube - but this facility has been the "'VMware Workstation 9.0.2 ' and the author admits"I don't know if it works or not with the fusion." "

2 I downloaded a a copy of the latest vmwaretools for linux of deposit of CDS - /www/stage/session-32/cds/vmw-desktop/fusion/5.0.3/1040386/packages only to find it was exactly the same as the package vmwaretools this merger gives me at least VMwareTools - 9.2.2 - 893383

    Some success

I had some mild success by running the following commands before installing - it seems to stop error messages:

    apt-get update

    sudo apt-get install build-essential

    sudo apt-get install linux-headers-`uname -r`

    sudo apt-get install xinetd

    But my MAJOR PROBLEM IS...

When I try to activate the shared folders while the guest is running, I see a message:

    VMware folder sharing failure.jpg

Or if I turn on shared folders when the guest does NOT work, I don't get an error message - but I don't see either record hgfs under/MNT

    Other research

I read can't see the shared folders in Linux guest (Windows host) and Re: sharing files on drive betw host and the guest does not work on Ubuntu 13.04 and even tried to run the script vmtoolspatch of WoodyZ of this post - with the following result:

    user@GNS3WB62 /tmp/vmware-tools-distrib $ ./vmtoolspatch

To install VMware Tools type the following

    commands, pressing Enter after each:

    cd /tmp/vmware-tools-distrib

    sudo ./vmware-install.pl

But after the installation of the VMware shared folders tools has not always worked.

    My plea

Someone has successfully shared folder with Linux Mint 15 cinnamon (32 bit - no codecs) invited 5.0.3 fusion and if so could you share the steps that you used?

    My system Details

I tried this using VMware Fusion 5.0.3 in both a

MacMini running Lion Server (OS X 10.7.5) 2 GHz Intel Core i7 16 GB of DDR3 memory and a

MacBook Pro running 2.8 GHz Intel Core Duo 8 GB DDR3 (OS X 10.8.4) Mountain Lion

I have only this tried using Linux Mint 15 cinnamon (32 bit - no codecs)

Well, starting with the basic installation created by using the linuxmint-15-cinnamon-dvd-nocodecs-32bit.iso image under VMware Fusion 5.0.3 I did the following.

sudo apt - get install linux-headers-$(uname-r)

    sudo ln-s/usr/src/linux-headers-$ (uname-r)/include/generated/uapi/linux/version.h /usr/src/linux-headers-$(uname-r)/include/linux/version.h

Excerpt from vmtoolspatch.zip in my Home Directory.

Excerpt from the VMware Tools VMwareTools - 9.2.2 - 893683.tar.gz to: / tmp

Open a Terminal, by default, the base directory, then:

    wkz@linuxmint15x86nc ~ $. / vmtoolspatch

    patch the file driver.c

    patching file inode.c

To install VMware Tools, type the following command

    commands, pressing ENTER after each:

    CD/tmp/vmware-tools-distrib

    sudo./VMware-install.pl

    wkz@linuxmint15x86nc ~ $ cd/tmp/vmware-tools-distrib

    wkz@linuxmint15x86nc/tmp/vmware-tools-distrib $ sudo./vmware-install.pl

Once VMware Tools have been installed, I rebooted and had access to the VMware shared folders.

So it works with the basic install however I do not run apt - get update then apt - get upgrade or use one kernel other then the default.  So once the changes then the scrip may not work and I don't have time to test each variable and am just trying to give some automated solution just to make it easier to patch based on what is said in the Notes section in the script.  Really don't want to maintain it and others can build on this and or do something similar.

Make sure that the stamp of Date/time on the file vmtoolspatch is Jul 15 00:04:00 2013 as who has worked with this test.

XP worked for years and has a lot of history and documents in folders of Thunderbird. Linux Mint has been installed on a different physical drive. Can I point the Linux of Thunderbird version to the XP data directory and use both XP and Linux versions of Thunderbird with a set of data files?

I propose instead the full profile of Linux.

  • topic: Home Search does not work in Linux Mint 15

I recently installed a new copy of Linux Mint 15 (Cinnemon). It comes pre-packaged with Firefox, but after setting the homepage back to the default (subject: House), I noticed that the search bar on this page did not work. By this I mean that the form has not provided or by pressing Enter or clicking on the ' search ' button.

I deleted all the Add-ons, removed and reinstalled Firefox several times, tried the Reset, and deleted, then recreated function profiles manually reset the options of configuration by default and any other thing I could think of. Nothing did.

Some users of a similar question mentioned that helped chromeappsstore.sqlite deleted, but this file is never created for me. In addition, localStorage ["search-engine"] is not defined according to the console, but Google is defined as the defaultenginename.

Any ideas on what else to try?

See you again all search engines in manage search engines?

You can check if you have the XML files including Google's default search engine in the browser/searchplugins folder in the Firefox program folder.

If this isn't the case, then you need to reinstall Firefox.
