Install win 7 existing SSD (sorta) - to be duplicated more SSD, not "clean reinstall. Possible?

So, I have a computer that I built at the time when Win7 was new, OEM license.  At the time I was the first SSD so I got a 1 TB HARD drive and a 40 GB SSD (actually about 36-37 GB, but whatever) (Intel).  The Windows installation, I did way back then seems to have created a very small partition 'System reserved' on the HARD drive, all 100 MB or more, which has even not a drive letter and shows only in the view of disk Partion/Manager (the rest of the HARD is my main media storage drive E :) drive.  Most of the time the real Windows w folder / system files are all on the SSD (C: /) drive, as are all my programs installed (with the exception of my library of steam ginormous but that is another story...)

Naturally over the years with the isntalls program and patches of OS, even with cleaning of disc classic, including the elimination of restore points and everything, I like maximum without ~ 37 GB SSD 4 GB, and I'm getting a little paranoid, I'm running out of time before the killing for good wear upgrade.  So I bought a bigger (256GB) SSD I would move the program files and the OS to.

The problem is, I think my "boot record" is on this "System reserved" partition on the HARD drive.  That little 'hidden' partition is marked 'Active system' then the SSD partition is marked 'Boot, Active' (or at least, it of now, don't remember not before...)

I tried a copy of disk-to-disk of old SSD to the new SSD while started light windows to a customer (not a ' clone' in itself, because drive sizes are different) and try a reboot later, he failed and suggested to I try the product DVD.  Well, can't find that (of course... I'll dig up eventually) but I had a system restore disk, I had created.  With the help of this CD it let me "repair" and did start using the files on the new SSD... but then after he did a restart full he went blackscreen and told me (down in the corner) was not a valid copy of Windows.

I could just plug my old SSD, repeating the redirection of startup repair by using the system restore disk and am back where I started from.  Question is... can I do what I want?  I'm really NOT trying to 'steal' another copy of Windows (the old 40 GB SSD will go to the trash can after be wiped) and also, I don't want to do a clean reinstall for the new SSD and have to fix all the facilities program.  If it's going to be this kind of work I would upgrade rather just the entire machine (but I won't do that this time is that I'm waiting for W10 to officially publish for my next build).

Should I try to perform a sector by sector "clone" of the c: / cross 36 GB partition for the new SSD, then use a partitioning tool to increase the partition size to cover the rest of the disk and try the system restore disk to point to this new?  Any other advice?  (give up this machine and just build my new?)

Thanks in advance.

I recently bought an SSD to improve performance a little, I of course want to install Windows on this.

The problem is that the laptop recognizes that the SSD is here, it tries only to start from what he can of course because it is empty.

Announces 'Check media [fail]' as well as ' no. Bootable Devices Found '.

I went into the start menu and tried booting from CD and USB, none of these options work, and again, the system attempts to boot from the Virgin SSD.

I've set both the USB and the DVD drive as the first boot device. Yet once, none of them work and you guessed it, the system attempts to boot from the empty unit.

What Miss me? There must be a way to get the system to boot something other than the Virgin SSD.

Out of curiosity, but what version of Windows you trying to install?

  • Install Win 7 on a new disc

The problem: windows fails when starting a new drive.

    I have T430 with Win 7 pro 64-bit.
The hard drive (hitachi 320 GB 7200 RPM) has the recovery partition. Boot from this drive is very good, and the pc works. The pc CAME preinstalled with the operating system and no DVD has been provided.

Now I want to install the OS for a new SSD 120 GB drive (for the same pc)
With the help of tools Lenovo, I created a USB recovery.
Removed the original drive and installed the new SSD.
Booted from the USB and the recovery application to install Win on the SSD.
At the start of the SSD, I get the error
"Unable to start Windows. A recent hardware... »
    'Not found Winload.exe.

Of course, the hardware has been changed, but I can't use the advice - use of the ERD - if Lenovo does not provide it.

I already searched the forums and has not found a solution.

Is there a formal solution of Lenovo, or I have to take my chances?
    Any ideas will be appreciated.

You must perform a 'custom' / pure install the 64-bit version because there is no "Upgrade" path

This means that you must back up all your important data (Documents, music, photos, video, Etc.) to external media. In addition, you will have to reinstall your applications once installed the 64 bit version of Windows, so round up all the media application you and product keys before you start.

Also create an image backup of your version of 32-bit as a fallback option just in case there are questions.

Then, download the device drivers 64-bit on the web support site you PC from the manufacturer and burn them on a CD.

Now you are ready to start the 64-bit installation.

  • G62 225 NR. I need remove Win7 and install Win XP. How?

My daughter has worked in America and he bought a laptop HP G62 225 NR. Then she returned to Russia and he brought with him. Now, I need to change the OS with Win 7 on Win XP because my program does not run in Windows 7. I can't install Win XP even if I install a new HARD drive. How to remove information from BIOS on previously installed Win 7? Unfortunately this model HP in Russia is not supported.

    Hello

Have you changed the boot order?

You need to change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order and boot from the Windows 7 DVD:

How to change the Boot order in BIOS:

  • Install Win 7 on new SSD, DV7t-3000

    Hi all

I just bought a new SSD 60 GB for my Pavilion dv7t.  I would like to install Windows 7 on SSD for fast loading times, etc.  However, the player is only 60 GB, and not the drive of 300 GB the OS is currently on.

Because these computers were not shipped with the OS installation disc, it seems that I have to make a recovery disk.  I read that for these to work, the drive that you get should be of equal size or larger than the original drive.

I'm near the top of the proverbial Creek on that?  I can't imagine that HP would limit it like that.  No way I can afford a 300 GB HDD anyway!  Is it possible to install the OS I paid on my new drive?

Thanks for all the help.  Enjoy your week.

    -Matt

Laptop recovery disks does not require the same hard drive (size), however, there may be minimum hard disk size requirement.

Why not do a set of recovery discs anyway (might be useful in case of any problem hard drive). Replace the hardware with the new SSD and try the system with the disk recovery? Keep the original for a while hard disk, however, may use it as the 2nd drive.

  • Cannot install Win 8 - Satellite Pro C660 does not detect HARD drive

    Hello

My HARD drive died, so I decided to upgrade my Satellite Pro C660 - 1 9 to an SSD.
I made a USB bootable with Win8 and starts very well.

The problem is that it does not detect my SSD, so I can proceed with the installation.
SSD appears in BIOS but not in Windows Installer.
He said that there is a missing driver.

I downloaded the AHCI drivers (XP, only ones available) and even in this case, after you have selected the only rider that appears, it says no new device found.

I tried to change the SATA from AHCI mode to compatibility mode and it's the same thing...

    What can I do?

    Thanks for the help.
    Best regards
    Bruno Moreira

More old Windows XP need a driver AHCI Intel's but I think this isn't a problem with SATA driver missing because as far as I know Windows 8 as well as Win 8.1 already contains the drivers to recognize the SSD or HARD disk drive.
In addition, the installation of the OS should be possible even if the driver would be added for this procedure, you must use the "compatibility" mode
As you say, the compatibility mode is not working too, so I think there is another problem.

However, page driver Toshiba also provides a driver Intel RST (Intel Rapid Storage Technology) (Windows 8 - updated) you can try to add during the installation of the OS.

But I m wondering if you would be able to install this Win 8 on common SATA HDD.
Have you tried to format the SSD using a different computer, then install Win 8?
    Give it a try.

  • Satellite L300 - clean install Win 7 SP1 64 bit

I just did a clean install of Windows 7 64-bit, replacing the normal 32-bit Vista that comes with the laptop.

The facility has been good, but I have a few questions about the following:

I adjusted the automatic run settings to ask every time for all selections. The problem is that when the game DVD in WMP or VLC disk reads but is noisy. It is very good for the s CD without excessive noise. The acoustic silencer on the download site is for 32-bit, but can be used in this laptop. In the original Vista there is no noise at all, so I wonder if there is other parameters that can sort this point, otherwise I'll have to keep changing things manually with the acoustic silencer.

I noticed a very low noise coming from laptop (like a lighter version of a business when you're boarding Jet it). I ran a video memory Stress Test CE and he showed a few errors. If I reduce the brightness of the screen there is less noise so I wonder if it's something to do with the Panel of inverter of screen I'm sure that's not the HARD drive or the cooling fan, but it could be something on the motherboard.

On the backup plan Acronis will slow down my system or are Win 7 OK backup options?

Thanks a lot for all the possible solutions to these problems.

A long time ago I've installed Win7 32 bit on friends Satellite L300. It worked perfectly. Much better than original Vista.
    > I still don't know what is the best test for the screen.
I put t understand what kind of test do you mean. I hope that you have installed the right display driver and LCD works perfectly with a native resolution.

Win7 recovery with Acronis image creation is, generally, the right decision. With this disc, you can install Win7 again and again very rapidly and you should not install every single driver separately.

If you want to keep this laptop any longer I think it is worth to buy it. One last thing: you will buy it once and you can use it in the future too if you decide to buy the new laptop or PC.

This isn't a question but a RESPONSE to all those who are not able to install Win 7 on Hp Spectra because you get the notice "a required CD/DVD device driver is missing."

I JUST BOUGHT a brand new 360 4165 x spectrum.  No USB 2.0 at all.  No CD player.

Engineer network, that sort of thing just is not solved with me so I solved it!

DO NOT download drivers intel but RST download the Extensible software USB 3.0 host controller.  RST is 'Rapid Storage Technology' and has nothing to do with the inability of the system to load the drivers of USB 3.0

    = Found HERE =.

    https://Downloadcenter.Intel.com/download/22824/USB-3-0-driver-Intel-USB-3-0-Extensible-host-control...

Extract the files to a folder on the C: drive of your laptop.

Install Win 7 and WHEN IT REQUEST the drivers, just point to the folder (Browse) you just extract files.

You need to install BOTH the driver of the ROOT and the main driver of USB 3.0, so choose one and install, and then select the other and install.

DON'T BOTHER with removing USB and move to another location!  Here are the lucky results!

You will now be able to quickly install Windows 7 according to MY INSTRUCTIONS.

It came preloaded with win 7, but the DVD of restoration to win 8.1 does not pick up the 128 GB samsung ssd.

do I need to change the bios settings? or is it a driver I need?

    Thank you

It's the solution that I have seems to work.

In such a situation, you can clean the whole SSD by using diskpart and this will ensure that the system reserved partition is also cleaned and the boot sector. Try to use the following method to clean the SSD and use the automatic partitioning of windows to create the partition for the installation of the operating system.

    1. Insert the DVD of windows in the DVD player.
    2. on the disk selection screen, press SHIFT + F10. A command prompt window opens.
    3. type diskpart and press ENTER to open the diskpart tool.
    4. Type list disk and press ENTER. A list of available hard disks.
    5. type the number of disk of salt and then press ENTER. number is the number of the hard drive you want to clean. The hard drive is now selected.
    6. type det disk, and then press ENTER. A list of partitions on the hard disk. This information is used to verify that the correct drive is selected.
    7. make sure that the disk does not contain required data, type clean all, and then press ENTER to clean the disk.

All partitions and all data on the disc is removed entirely.
8 type exit and press ENTER to close

    9. continue the installation of the Windows operating system using automatic mΘthodes partitioning recommandΘes rather than create partitions yourself.

I tried each individually - how know one gives what error.

Run Update Readiness Tool and it says everything is OK. You run MS Baseline Security analyze and downloaded packages individual but can not understand the correct syntax to invoke manually by hand using pkgmgr. I'm stuck with a new installation of Vista precarious missing 4 critical fixes :(

I could go back and start from scratch, but I think I'll finish exactly in the same place again. Have also tried AV scans of bootable CD made on another system of trust and found no evidence of malicious software with three different products.

Is it possible to get the best diagnosis of update of windows beyond "failed with unknown cryptic error."

Any ideas what these patches have in common, which causes them to fail on my kit?

    Thank you

    Martin Brown

Thank you very much! These well made the case.

I had not had as much as to put on an AV so that it was not to blame. I have no idea why Windows Update had taken against these specific fixes - they work OK on the hard drive.

They all performed successfully, according to the newspaper.  But I came to be stuck with a 'respect' in the automatic mode of updates for the last KB2536275 tag applied. He thinks that the patch should always be applied (and running it still does not work).

Correction - it takes the system a heck of a lot of time to notice that the patch is applied and removed from the list (at least 2 reboots and the time it took me to write this letter) to do. Now, everything is good on the SSD and a nice green checkmark shows that there are no outstanding update!

Thanks again it was exactly what I need.

BTW How did you find these .msu files? When I went before all I could find were cryptic and opaque. CAB files with names absolutely inpenetrable, my question at the beginning was to know how to apply them as pkgmgr syntax is not really obvious from the help page.

They are much more user friendly they are autonomous and run after the download.
