Install Windows 7 and I already have Vista

I now have windows vista on my computer and when I bought my computer, they said I could get windows 7 for free, when it came out.  I was wondering if I had windows 7 if I redownload the things like microsoft word and Itunes or if they will still be on my computer?

Thank you!

Hi snowglobe22,

Welcome to Microsoft Answers Forum. We appreciate your interest in Windows 7.

Upgrading Vista to Windows 7 will affect any of your programs. But it is recommended to backup your data before you begin the installation.

How to backup a PC

http://www.Microsoft.com/Windows/Windows-7/get/PC-Backup.aspx

However, because Microsoft is not a technical support for the RC version, it is strongly recommended to leave only known computer users sign up. I recommend you to wait for the RTM and install it instead.

Here's how to upgrade Vista to Windows 7.

Before you begin the upgrade:

  • Back to the top of your files on an external hard drive, DVD or CD, USB flash, or network drive.
  • Check the Windows package to make sure that your computer meets the system requirements, you will need Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) installed and also 8.5 GB of free space on your hard drive.
  • Find your 25-character Windows product key. You can find your product key on your computer or inside the Windows package installer disk-based.

Steps to upgrade vista to windows 7.

1. insert the DVD into the drive and start the upgrade Setup program.
2 click on install now option in the Windows 7 set in place and implementation will begin to copy the files required for installation.
3 on get the updates for installation page, we recommend getting the latest updates to help ensure a successful installation and to help protect your computer against security threats. You will need an Internet connection to get these updates.

4 in the license page, accept the license terms, click I accept the terms of the licenseand then click Next.

5. click on upgrade to aid the which type of installation you want? page if you want to upgrade an existing installation.

6 installation check upgrade compatibility and gives an error report where all installed applications are not compatible with Windows 7. You will need to uninstall the programs before you start the upgrade.

7 once compatibility is checked, it starts the upgrade process and follow the instructions on the screen to configure final Windows 7. The keys to Windows 7 will ask you set up during installation, so keep it ready.

Note: If you upgrade Windows Vista, changes the default task Windows, services and other settings in Windows Vista system can be replaced by the default configuration for Windows 7.

Hope this information answers your query.

Kind regards

    Hey BH32009

Contact the computer manufacturer and ask them to send vista recovery discs

they do it for a nominal cost of $

also ask them if you have a recovery partition on your hard drive to get back to the way you bought

you would normally press F10 or F11 or Alt + F10, 0 at startup to start the recovery process according to the manufacturer

Ask them of the exact key sequence

Save all data, because it will be lost, do the above

  • Just installed Windows 7 and no processor...

I just installed Windows 7 on my computer after Vista, only to find out that there more Microsoft Works on it.  Is there a way to retrieve my disks Vista CPU?  Or it would be a legal second option: my son also had a similar computer that it has installed Linux on (he is recently rid of this computer) but we have a Microsoft Works 8.5 disc bracket provided with this computer. Sorry if this is a stupid question... I'm a little computer not disputed - no surprise, huh!

    Jan

Windows Vista didn't work either, it was delivered without doubt as a bonus to all that the company you bought the computer (either as a special offer, or you paid for it in the comprehensive agreement).  But whatever it is, works is never automatically part of Windows, it is always sold separately.

The works disk that came with another computer is technically only authorized for a computer (in most cases, check to see if there is a sticker that says cases so on the CD).  It's not say specifically, you can install it on your new computer.  Technically, you could probably anyway, but that it would not be "allowed" by the rules... and I can't recommend that you break all the rules :)

But besides that, you may want to consider Office 365.  It has 3 options:

    1. Free web version (go to office.com to use Word, Excel, PowerPoint, all for free, anytime).
    2. Family version (allows you to install the complete programs on up to 5 computers/phones/tablets)
    3. Personal version (allows you to install the complete programs on a single computer)

    Hello

Yes, well part of the problem from the point of view of Dell is the only "acceptable" operating system for the Office of series 4600 XP. So they have no drivers 'official' for any function of Windows 7!

But first I need more information on the video card. Try this (on the Dell site): 4600 system is supplied either with the built-in car video or a dedicated real card video.  You should know that you got.  Right-click of your mouse on the desktop, click on Properties in the next area, you see.  This will bring you into the display properties.  Now click on settings at the top right of this next area, click Next on the advance .  Now, click on the adapter on the top.  Just below the upper on this last box, you will see your listed video adapter.

You will need this information, regardless of where you get help. My best recommendation is that you go to the community of Dell and after a question here. Someone may have already found one, but there is nothing official since the operating system is not officially supported.

I'm sorry, there is nothing more I can do.

    Kind regards

I installed windows 7 and webcam has never worked since. What is the solution for this problem?

    Hello

Since you upgraded to Windows 7 have you run Upgrade Advisor and verify with the
Compatibility Center (for the compatibility of the device)?

    Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor <-- please="" run="" this=""> http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/get/upgrade-advisor.aspx

Also check the Compatibility Center (for the compatibility of the device)?
    http://www.Microsoft.com/Windows/compatibility/Windows-7/en-us/default.aspx

Check with the system and peripheral manufacturers for updated drivers and many have special
instructions to help the upgrade to Windows 7. You should also check with the system
Machine to ask in their forums (if any) for known problems and solutions and support.

If the system is compatible Windows 7 AND there are drivers for your WebCam
    (and other devices).

Vista references apply to Windows 7.

You probably need to reload the drivers of the device and the camera'IF' control software
    There is for Windows 7.

    Login as an administrator.

Control Panel - Device Manager - Imaging - write down of the brand and the model of camera - double
Click on it and on the tab of the driver is version. Now, click on update drivers (who cannot do anything

REBOOT - it will refresh the driver stack.

Now, go to the system manufacturer's website and download the latest driver of the camera and other partners
the camera software (if not more recent get the same).

Download - SAVE - go to them and RIGHT CLICK - RUN AS ADMIN - reboot after each driver.

Look at the sites of the manufacturer for drivers - and the manufacturer of the device manually.

If there are no Windows 7 drivers:

You can try loading the latest driver available in Compatibility Mode which sometimes

Exhausted all other methods in the Troubleshoot utility above before trying these.

Logon as ADMINISTRATOR for all of them.

You can try Compatibility Mode but this rarely works on the device drivers.

Right click on the driver executable (.exe) file - select Compatibility Mode

In the drop-down menu choose XP or Vista and Service Pack (if it is the version
    "you try the drivers).

Click OK, and then let the race to see if it will install.

It also rarely works on the device drivers but it is worth trying:

Another method to try is to run the .exe (if self extraction) or Unzip (if it is compressed) to a folder:

So in this case it would be \User\Your User Name\Camera_Folder CD and the prompt
