Install windows on a SSD

Hello

I just got a new SSD. I want to replace my HARD drive with it and install Windows on it. I don't know how to do this. In Acer eRecovery Management, it automatically installs windows on the HARD drive. I'm not of course. I don't have more than one windows installation cd. How can I do this?

Thank you

It finally worked!

Here's what I did:

To change a disk partition table GUID on a disk to MBR by using the command line
Back up or move all volumes on the disk basic GUID partition table (GPT) you want to convert a master boot record (MBR) record.
Open a command prompt and type diskpart. If the disc does not contain any partitions or volumes, go to step 6.
At the DISKPART prompt (right-click Guest, and then click Run as administrator), type list disk. Note the number of the disk to be deleted.
At the DISKPART prompt, type select disk .
At the DISKPART prompt, type of cleaning.
ImportantImportant
Run the clean command deletes all partitions or volumes on the disk.
At the DISKPART prompt, type convert mbr.
Once complete, type exit and return to the Windows installation.

Thanks for the help everyone!

    Hello!

    I got help.

How can I enable AHCI in dv7 6199us? And install windows on a SSD?

Intel based computers, like yours, are usually set to "RAID", which is a superset of "AHCI". Basically, if the BIOS won't let you choose between "IDE mode", "AHCI" and "RAID", leaving in the RAID led to you everything done "AHCI". In this case there is no need to activate the AHCI, as RAID will support an SSD anyway.

  • K320: how to install windows on a SSD?

To speed up my system, I bought a 64 GB SSD. The idea was to install windows 7 64 on this disc and the same boot from that. HARD original (1 TB) disk is intended to use for data application only.

I added the SSD successfully to my system, but it seems impossible to install windows and make it bootable? I can't use recovery tools because my original system is also longer than 64 GB.

My preferred plan is to unplug the HARD drive and start with the SSD from scratch (so if there are problems during the installation, I can easily switch back to my old system).

    Any ideas how to proceed?

    Thank you

At least I had to reinstall windows on the HARD drive and transfer it to SSD. This link describes how: http://www.com-magazin.de/praxis/detail/artikel/windows-7-auf-ssd.html

    Hello

I want to install Windows 7 on an SSD (I plan on getting a Samsung 850 Evo 128 GB) but I can't get one any file or installation disk. My PC did not come with a disk, only a code produced on the case. I went to the site of software recovery of Microsoft and typed code, but he told me that the product was not supported, as it was an OEM copy. I could try to create a restoration disk using the recovery on my main hard drive partition, but I heard the average success rate that was weak. Any suggestions on how to get the OS on the SSD drive? I have a 16GB Flash Drive if necessary void.

Yes it is a way to do it.

If your hard drive still has the partition recovery on it, you can use the feature of factory restore from the Recovery Manager which will effectively drive to the same state that when you got the computer.  Coaurse, there will be a lot of bloatware which you could uninstall before cloning.

If the recovery partition does not work and you have not created discs recovery when you got the computer, you can order them from HP.

  • T61p: Install Windows XP Corsair SSD-> "no drives found".

    Lenovo T61p

I want to install Windows XP SP3 on a new Corsair X 64 SSD. The drive is recognized in the BIOS and the BIOS diagnostic program reports also no errors.

But the Windows installation stops with the error message "no drives found". I've already put control SATA Mode "compatibility"!

    Any ideas?

    Christian

    Hello Ford,

Thank you very much for the detailed help. I've fiddled around with the BIOS, some settings and whoops IMO all of sudden the drive was recognized. I think that, if I remember correctly, that change has been after I disabled the quick start option.

Eventually I could reset the compatibility mode and take advantage of the full speed. I am really impressed by the speed improvement.

    Kind regards

  • Install Windows 7 on SSD 4?

Bought a new pc with SSD 128 G 3 and an ssd 256G and a 2 TB hard drive

I would like to install windows 7 Ultimate on a ssd 128G, ssd 256G programs/software and other SSDS 2X128G serve as a timeline for Photoshop etc...

How would you suggest putting in place while in disk for maximum performance management?

    Stripped volume or not?

I would firstly 2 SSDS for the plan of installation in Raid 0

The data would be hard disk

Can I install windows 7 Ultimate on the first disk (disk Basic) then create dynamic disk on all four discs (after creating Raid 0 on handset the SSD to the Assembly plan)?

Or which is exaggerated and I just point Windows to other SSD for programs and plan Assembly?

It is my first build so would appreciate comment/help

    Thanks in advance

Although RAID must be 1 configured in BIOS, no diskmgmt, at least

2 HDs must, or must be connected at this time, after the BIOS, you will need to

Configure the RAID in a pre windows start menu, this command sets for the RAID configuration.

Once through, format and install windows. In addition, small HDs have better performance,

HD 2 to, you can set them as non-RAID, you just a bunch of disks, settings

JBOD, questionable installation... For more information about RAID, try this link

I recently built my own PC, it has 2 drives (1 SSD and 1 HDD) and I want to have windows 7 (64 bit) installed on the smaller SSD and all other files and programs on the larger HARD drive could you give me some instructions on how to do it? I've been strugling for awhile now!

I am completely new to this so if you can keep it nice and simple, would be great!

    Thanks for your help :)

Have your program files on the HARD drive defeated the purpose of having an SSD in the first place. The goal is to start the operating system and load your programs faster.

Then, install the operating system and programs on the SSD and store your personal files (Documents, music, photos, videos etc.) on the HARD disk.

Demarrer start from the Windows 7 DVD, and then select the SSD drive during installation

For information about how to modify your BIOS options to boot from the DVD drive, see the following tutorial:

    http://notebooks.com/2011/05/05/How-to-load-BIOS-and-change-boot-configuration/

Click Custom install Windows only (Advanced)

Select the SSD drive, and then click Next.

Once Windows 7 is installed, you can redirect personal folders on the HARD drive to store your files.

  • Windows can handle a disc SSD and HDD together? Is it better to install Windows on the SSD drive?

Can Windows take the advantages of Solid State Drives and hard drives and know where to write or suggest?

Is it better to put Windows on a SSD and programs like word and save files on hard drive?  Also maybe windows might do a B/H on the HD.

I think that that's where computers go.  Either all SSDS like Mac book air or a hybrid of the two and is ready for her Windows or do we wait for an update to Windows 7 or Windows 8?

You need at least a 60 GB SSD (or more) to install Windows on. The traditional hard drive can be used to store data files.

  • Install windows 7 on SSD and keeping it legal?

The 750 GB HARD drive on my laptop is completely died on me last night. I have a key true windows 7 on my laptop.

I did not create a recovery disk, but I met an OEM System Builder Windows 7 disc. I just install windows 7 on my new SSD and use the same key on the bottom of my laptop with no problems? I want to make sure that it is legal and it won't bounce as duplicate a product key.

BTW, the laptop is a lenovo z570 if that makes a difference.

Usually, it is quick and easy thanks to the automatic line and no need to talk with a real person. If it doesn't go to a real person, I've had them ever question me at all. Explain the situation and they give me an activation code.

But, it should activate automatically if this is the first time that you have reinstalled.
  • I can't install windows 8.1 SSD samsung 850 Pro for my AW18 because this error:

I bought a new SSD Samsung 850 Pro to my Alienware 18. When I try to install the windows 8.1 and selected the SSD to install the Sagna appear the error:

"Windows has detected that the EFI system partition is formatted as NTFS. Format the EFI in FAT32 system partition, then restart the installation. »

    Hi csarquiteto,

You will need to format the disk partitions in order to install the operating system. Just follow the detailed instructions in this video , and when you get to the screen that says where you want to install Windows?, select the old partitions and delete them (This erases all data from the partition also), then create a new to complete the installation.

  • How to install Windows 7 on SSD

    It is a complex subject:

I have a laptop that I bought new with Vista several years ago. Now, I put it to date with W7 (upgrade version). Outside of him refusing to install on drive C because of insufficient disk space, it worked fine (I installed a drive D).
Now I think to buy a SSD hard drive, replacing my old hard drive and reinstall from scratch. But will it work? I undertand there are differences between upgrade and full? It's the same laptop.
I really need my computer so it should work.
    Thank you

If your computer comes with a qualifying previous license such as Windows Vista or Windows XP and the certificate of authenticity is still attached to the machine in good condition, then the COST is reason enough to represent the compliance to the software license agreement. No previous required software installation, which means you can do a clean install with Windows 7 Upgrade disk.

How to do a clean install with upgrade disc:

Boot from the Windows 7 DVD

    Click Install now

    Accept the license agreement

When the option is displayed to select a type of installation, click (Custom advanced)

    Click on drive Options

Select the disc/s click on Delete

    Click new

    Click on apply

    Click OK

Click Format, and then click next to proceed with the installation

Skip entering your product key Windows 7 and complete the installation.

When you reach the desktop, click Start, right-click on computer

    Click on properties

Scroll down to the Windows Activation

Click the link x days before activation.

Click on the link that says: "show me other ways to activate.

    Enter the product key

    Click next

Select the Activation of the phone

Click Next when you enter your key page

    Select your country

Click Next, call the number listed

Be sure to explain your situation to the Appeals Officer.

Provide the installation generated when ID requested by the call agent

They give a confirmation ID in return, enter it

Click next to complete the activation.

However, the requirements for the media upgrade is that you have an operating system already eligible such as Windows XP or Vista installed to use it. Since the Windows 7 end user license agreement.

15 UPDATES. To use upgrade software, you must first be licensed for the software that is eligible for the upgrade. After the upgrade, this agreement takes the place of the agreement for the software that you upgraded. After upgrade, you can no longer use the software that you upgraded.

So, if you are always denied, you will just have to reinstall Windows XP or Vista and let it do the verification of eligibility.

    or

  • How to properly install Windows 8 on a hdd/ssd hybrid.

I recently bought a hp pavilion ultrabook 14-b112eo (hybrid ssd/hdd), preinstalled with Windows8. I installed Ubuntu, by formatting first ssd and hard drive in gpatred (live-cd) and then installation. As there are a few problems driver on Ubuntu, I decided to reinstall Windows 8. I installed Windows on the ssd of 32 GB and then I used the hard drive in the home folder. The thing is that Windows 8 is pretty massive and I'm afraid that the storage space on my ssd won't be enough (after updates etc.), currently I have 10 GB of free.

I read that you can RAID to two hard disks to BIOS, and then reinstall Windows. This will decrease the performance of my ssd or is there some properties of my computer that will be the largest part of the operating system during playback of the ssd?

Furthermore, I can't disable legacy support from the BIOS more. If I do this, Windows will not start.

If the system recovery was another partition on my hard drive I I deleted when I formatted my hard disks in Gparted? Who is quite likely to be the case. Check the hard drive to see if a recovery partition is stil present. If this is the case, you might be in luck.

  • How to install Windows from the recovery in mSATA SSD partition?

    Hi all

I am familiar with the WIndows installation of optical media, but never to the recovery partition (which I assume where is the installer of Windows).

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello

Sorry, I have no idea on how to install directly from a separate to another drive, but you may want to check this . You will need 1 CD (start) and a 4.7 GB DVD (data) because Lenovo recovery adds all this bloatware in factory settings.

That said, if you want a clean install, use the Windows disk (in case you do not have the same edition, you can download it legally from the net, google it) and your OEM key for activation.
