T61p: Install Windows XP Corsair SSD-> "no drives found".

Lenovo T61p

I want to install Windows XP SP3 on a new Corsair X 64 SSD. The drive is recognized in the BIOS and the BIOS diagnostic program reports also no errors.

But the Windows installation stops with the error message "no drives found". I've already put control SATA Mode "compatibility"!

Any ideas?

Christian

Hello Ford,

Thank you very much for the detailed help. I've fiddled around with the BIOS, some settings and whoops IMO all of sudden the drive was recognized. I think that, if I remember correctly, that change has been after I disabled the quick start option.

Eventually I could reset the compatibility mode and take advantage of the full speed. I am really impressed by the speed improvement.

Kind regards

Christian

I have Windows 7 64-bit on my stock 500 GB hard drive. I have a 64 GB mSATA which I would like to do a clean install of Win7 on. Regarding the 500 gig HD, I would like to wipe and partition (it is loaded with bloatware and probably malware) but if possible, I like to keep a few photos and mp3s. I have to wipe everything, or can I just install Win7 and start-up of the SSD, then delete what I want on the other hard drive?

I suggest at the very least, you back up your personal folder in C:\Users\Your_AccountName on a hard drive external.

Proceed to install Windows 7 on SSD, reactivate so you keep the 500 GB attached as a slave drive and format it. You could even redirect your personal folders to it after formatting it.

  • How can I enable AHCI in dv7 6199us? And install windows on a SSD?

    Hello!

    I got help.

How can I enable AHCI in dv7 6199us? And install windows on a SSD?

Intel based computers, like yours, are usually set to "RAID", which is a superset of "AHCI". Basically, if the BIOS won't let you choose between "IDE mode", "AHCI" and "RAID", leaving in the RAID led to you everything done "AHCI". In this case there is no need to activate the AHCI, as RAID will support an SSD anyway.

  • Install Windows 7 on SSD and programs on the HARD drive?

    Hello

I was wondering if you could help me! I recently built my own PC, it has 2 drives (1 SSD and 1 HDD) and I want to have windows 7 (64 bit) installed on the smaller SSD and all other files and programs on the larger HARD drive could you give me some instructions on how to do it? I've been strugling for awhile now!

I am completely new to this so if you can keep it nice and simple, would be great!

    Thanks for your help :)

    Conner

Have your program files on the HARD drive defeated the purpose of having an SSD in the first place. The goal is to start the operating system and load your programs faster.

Then, install the operating system and programs on the SSD and store your personal files (Documents, music, photos, videos etc.) on the HARD disk.

Demarrer start from the Windows 7 DVD, and then select the SSD drive during installation

For information about how to modify your BIOS options to boot from the DVD drive, see the following tutorial:

    http://notebooks.com/2011/05/05/How-to-load-BIOS-and-change-boot-configuration/

Click Custom install Windows only (Advanced)

Select the SSD drive, and then click Next.

Once Windows 7 is installed, you can redirect personal folders on the HARD drive to store your files.

  • Windows can handle a disc SSD and HDD together? Is it better to install Windows on the SSD drive?

Can Windows take the advantages of Solid State Drives and hard drives and know where to write or suggest?

Is it better to put Windows on a SSD and programs like word and save files on hard drive?  Also maybe windows might do a B/H on the HD.

I think that that's where computers go.  Either all SSDS like Mac book air or a hybrid of the two and is ready for her Windows or do we wait for an update to Windows 7 or Windows 8?

You need at least a 60 GB SSD (or more) to install Windows on. The traditional hard drive can be used to store data files.

  • K320: how to install windows on a SSD?

To speed up my system, I bought a 64 GB SSD. The idea was to install windows 7 64 on this disc and the same boot from that. HARD original (1 TB) disk is intended to use for data application only.

I added the SSD successfully to my system, but it seems impossible to install windows and make it bootable? I can't use recovery tools because my original system is also longer than 64 GB.

My preferred plan is to unplug the HARD drive and start with the SSD from scratch (so if there are problems during the installation, I can easily switch back to my old system).

    Any ideas how to proceed?

I want to install Windows 7 on an SSD (I plan on getting a Samsung 850 Evo 128 GB) but I can't get one any file or installation disk. My PC did not come with a disk, only a code produced on the case. I went to the site of software recovery of Microsoft and typed code, but he told me that the product was not supported, as it was an OEM copy. I could try to create a restoration disk using the recovery on my main hard drive partition, but I heard the average success rate that was weak. Any suggestions on how to get the OS on the SSD drive? I have a 16GB Flash Drive if necessary void.

Yes it is a way to do it.

If your hard drive still has the partition recovery on it, you can use the feature of factory restore from the Recovery Manager which will effectively drive to the same state that when you got the computer.  Coaurse, there will be a lot of bloatware which you could uninstall before cloning.

If the recovery partition does not work and you have not created discs recovery when you got the computer, you can order them from HP.

  • Install windows on a SSD

    Hello

I just got a new SSD. I want to replace my HARD drive with it and install Windows on it. I don't know how to do this. In Acer eRecovery Management, it automatically installs windows on the HARD drive. I'm not of course. I don't have more than one windows installation cd. How can I do this?

    Thank you

    It finally worked!

    Here's what I did:

To change a disk partition table GUID on a disk to MBR by using the command line
Back up or move all volumes on the disk basic GUID partition table (GPT) you want to convert a master boot record (MBR) record.
Open a command prompt and type diskpart. If the disc does not contain any partitions or volumes, go to step 6.
At the DISKPART prompt (right-click Guest, and then click Run as administrator), type list disk. Note the number of the disk to be deleted.
At the DISKPART prompt, type select disk .
At the DISKPART prompt, type of cleaning.
    ImportantImportant
Run the clean command deletes all partitions or volumes on the disk.
At the DISKPART prompt, type convert mbr.
Once complete, type exit and return to the Windows installation.

  • Installation of Windows 7 on SSD HP drive

We have three HP 8300 Elite SFF machines in our headquarters. All came with Windows 7 pre-installed on the hard drives of 500 GB.

I bought two genuine HP SSD drives (with 120 GB Intel), but cannot install Windows 7 on them because the provided installation HP discs report that the new disks are too small!

I contacted HP about this and told me that the recovery disks only supports hard drives, initially installed on the machine, (i.e. 500 GB) or a larger size. I'd like a 960 GB SSD, but I'm not too keen on the cost!

The obvious solution would be to buy packs of sale at retail of Windows 7, but I hesitate to buy expensive software when I already have a license.

I had thought to resize the partition of HARD drive, less than 120 GB and copy of data across using a disk image but the facility could be optimized for a hard drive instead of the SSD, and it would probably go to default defragmentation!

There is no work around that I could use to install Windows 7 from the restore disks original, I want to get these new discs work?

    Any advice welcome.

    Nigel.

    Please see "how to install Windows 7 without the disc" for instructions how to install a new copy of Windows 7 on your computer by using the key of HP OEM Windows 7 SLP/SLIC of factory (not the 25-digit number on the COA), the activation OEM HP certificate factory and BIOS of the computer. Please see below for step by step instructions;

    (1) download and unzip ABR Beta with Windows 7 Support. This is the homepage of ABR for Windows Vista. Please follow the section "How to use" for information and instructions on how to use it. These steps also apply to Windows 7. Perform the 'activation' backup and save the certificates and keys retrieved in several external locations. The key and the certificate for each computer should be the same. (He gets the certificate of your factory installed OS and HP preinstalled OEM factory original key)

    (2) install Windows 7, after all the guests as needed. Don't let not Windows try to scoped. Run ABR 'restoration of activation' to 'install' the previously saved until the product key and the certificate. Make sure that Windows is activated, repeat "restoration of activation" until Windows 7 is activated. (It "installs" pre-installed HP OEM factory original key and certificate from your factory installed OS to your new installation of Windows. This HP OEM key and certificate are what allows your computer to HP be factory preactivated.)

    (3) install all drivers from the computer. These can be found on the support page HP for your computer, or you can find newer drivers on the various websites of the manufacturers of component... Intel, NVidia, AMD/ATI, Ralink, Realtek, etc..
