Install XP on a new hard drive using my old cd key

My current hard drive gives me a lot of trouble so I decided to buy a new.

But im worried if I install xp with my old cd key on a new hard drive would cause it to be not genuine.
BTW, my version is an OEM xp professional

You can install OEM XP Professional on a new hard drive on the same computer using the same CD key.

If Windows XP asks you to activate the product, start the activation process via Internet.  If that says that the CD key has already been installed on another computer, activate by phone and explain the situation to the person at Microsoft.

  • How to reinstall windows 8 in new HARD drive using the old product key?

    Mr President.

One of my clients purchased a new HP Envy 6 - 1150ex running integrated windows 8 64-bit a month ago. Unfortunately the HARD drive broke down by the improper use and must be replaced. I replaced the HARD drive, but I can't find the product key original of the laptop unless you have small windows on the laptop sticker. given that I don't have the recovery for the same model disk how can I install the genuine windows 8 manually by using the product key? where can I find the product key?  Please help me.

    Kind regards

    Yoyo

    Hello

Should be no problem at all if you use the version of Windows 8 EVEN because the product key is now embedded in the BIOS of the machine. The process is to get the right installation of Windows 8 media (DVD, USB, downloaded file) and then install on your client computer. No label/sticker more for all new machines with Windows pre-installed 8.

Please see the following link for more information.

To analyze and solve problems for Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag (download and save to the desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 ) tool

  • Satellite L40: Can I use Toshiba DVD to install Vista on a new HARD drive

    Hi people,

I'm new to this forum... I don't know that there, can someone advise me.
I replace my Satellite L40 HDD with a bigger drive, the current is only 80Gig.

And my question is, can I use my Toshiba recovery Disc to reinstall Vista on the new HARD drive, or is it a hidden partition on the original HARD drive?
If someone has done this, would appreciate an idiots guide to doing the same thing.

    Cheerzzzzzzzzzzz...

    Dave

Of course you can do it.
The DVD of Vista recovery Toshiba help you install Vista, all the drivers Toshiba and tools, and it automatically creates all the partitions.

So what you have to do is to boot from the recovery DVD and follow the instructions on-screen ;)

    Check it out!

  • Install Win8 on new HARD drive using disks of recovery on HP Envy M6

Okay, so I have my hard drive crashed a few months. So, I ordered a set of HP recovery disks. I finally get around to retrieve Win8 on the new HARD drive. However, I follow these instructions and it does NOT work. I get to the Boot Manager and nothing is there - at all. So, I went back to the BIOS and disabled secure boot (just in case). Yet, nothing. After several hours, I dropped...

Flash forward to today. I have enabled the legacy starts, moved DVD player y up in my order of start and stuck in a Win7 disc, I have here. One immediately recognizes the disc.

I finally decided to try to install recovery using USB thought which may help. So, I had on my desktop and tried to rip an .iso of the disks. Both PowerISO and IMGBurn rise "IO error" partially through the period of inquiry.

I'm starting think that the discs are bad... That would not explain why can't I see my optical drive in the Boot Manager however.

    Thoughts?

It was records. I downloaded a copy of Win8 and it began immediately.

  • Portege R600 - how to install XP on a new HARD drive?

I did the mechanical installation of a new hard drive and it's correct.

Now, I want to install XP - Vista not. However, nothing I've tried will allow the BIOS to recognize the new drive. 'Alternative media' drive of Toshiba XP should include the SATA drivers, but it does not work.

    What did I miss?

    Hello

Do you mean the new HARD drive is NOT visible in the BIOS or the new HARD drive is not recognized by Windows XP Setup?
    Those are two different questions

If the HARD drive is not recognized by the BIOS, then you used the disk HARD is not compatible.
But if the HARD drive is not recognized by installing XP then you have not installed the SATA drivers that are packed in the Intel Storage Manager.

  • Hi I reinstalled my Win XP Home because the current drive was getting old. But I installed it on a new hard drive connected as "Slave" but now he can't start

I have connected the new hardrive as a 'slave', re-installed my Win XP even & re-patched everything on it including SP3, programs & ups back-ups, but oh no! the new hard drive when it is plugged in as a 'master', it does not start!

But with the old hard drive connected as long as 'master', I have the option of "dual boot".

I guess because my new drive is not a reader of "system"? I can see that my old drive is listed as 'system '. How to make my other even without having to re - install all over again? Thank you!

    Hi Fishlipps,

Thanks for posting. Most likely you see it as your boot.ini is located on a drive corresponding to your system on a different drive. The easy way to do this would be to reinstall or do a repair on the computer installation. Please make a backup before attempting this.

    1.

When the message Press any key to boot from the CD appears on your screen, press a key to start your computer from the Windows XP CD.

    2.

When you see the message to install Windows XP nowand then press ENTER is displayed on the Welcome to the Setup screen, press ENTER.

    3.

Do not choose the option to press R to use the Recovery Console.

    4.

In the Windows XP licensing agreement, press F8 to accept the license agreement.

    5.

Make sure that your current installation of Windows XP is selected in the box, and then press R to repair Windows XP.

    6.

Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation.

Another option would be to modify the boot.ini located directly on the root of your drive. Below is a knockout with instructions on how to do it. However please backup all your data by doing one of them because both can make your computer unbootable.

  • Cannot install Vista on the new hard drive

    original title: Please help!

I have a dell laptop inspiron 1720, not the newest I know but it surfs the web. At least it used to. I had some sort of virus or something and my hard drive kept bluescreening on me. I said, well I want to do this thing faster and have more space anyway. Out a ram 1 g got 4g, out went the 120gig and got a 250. Went to reinstall dell support stuff and it went well. Then had my vista disk and started to install. Expanded files ok and everything. You all the way to the install tab end and nothing happens? Don't know what else to do? Any help would be great.

Turns out I'm only semi retarded. My friend told me since I have a new hard drive, I would probably need to first load the driver for it. Then I got to the part when you choose a car and chose to load drivers. Of course I had to change discs in the middle of install and load a driver for the new hard drive and everything went smoothly after that.

  • Install Vista on a new hard drive without a Setup disk

I have a compaq cq71. The HARD drive is faulty (as told by checking the hard drive) and must be replaced. I'm going to buy a new HARD drive but don't know how I can install Vista on it. I have no Vista disk, only the recovery on the old damaged hard disk partition. Can I access the recovery partition is if possible I can create a floppy disk to install from here? Alternatively, if I could borrow a disk from someone else? I still have the product key of Vista on the bottom of my machine.

    Any help much appreciated.
