Installation of Linux on Envy 17-j113el

I am tryng to install Linux Mint 16 on my new Envy 17 - j113el, completelly remove Windows (no necessary dualboot) 8.1

I was able to install Ubuntu 14.04 but no earlier version, like Ubuntu 13.10 or my standard OS, Linux Mint 16, which is based on Ubunto 13.10.

Seems I have to wait 17 Mint based on Ubuntu 14.04, right? No work around?

Why is it so?

I have dasabled UEFI switch mode 'Legacy.

Thanks for your help, Evelino

Hello

I believe that you must insert this: nomodeset xdriver = 'new '.

in the kernel boot sequence.

http://UbuntuForums.org/showthread.php?t=1613132

Press F6 in the start menu, and then type the above command. Maybe on other acpi = off could also work.

Edit: I just tried forensic Sabayon using this:

http://AskUbuntu.com/questions/9262/change-LiveUSB-default-boot-options

and it worked like a charm.

Open the USB live cd in a text editor and edit a file txt.cfg (config file) but the name can be different on each linux. Zabaglione was syslinux.cfg. It is better to edit the config on the usb key file because you will not have to change the sequence of the kernel startup, every time that you start the cd/usb live.

When I install until this screen, it will not proceed... How to solve?

Hi GheeSeongand welcome to the VMware communities!

I guess that the scroll bar does not reveal any button 'Next' at the bottom of the screen...

You've hit a bug in Oracle Linux 6.2.  We have an article in the Knowledge Base describing the related issues during installation Oracle Linux 6.2 on vSphere and another related issue when you use virtual EFI firmware.  All these problems are caused by the same bug Oracle Linux (and they have released an update to fix it), but it seems that we have not yet a section in Knowledge Base describing the problem encountered on VMware Workstation, where the symptom is that the screen is cut off and there is no button 'Next' to visible.  (Interestingly, you can still use the keyboard to go through Setup... Press Alt + N)

To get the display work correctly, try this:

    • Shut down the virtual computer.
    • Go into the settings of the virtual machine and configure the virtual machine display to have a screen at 1024 x 768.  Save the settings.  (I have been informed that sometimes this setting doesn't "stick", then you will want to return to settings and check that it is correct before continuing.)
    • Turn on the virtual machine and enter the Setup program.  You should now have a button "next".
    • Install Oracle Linux 6.2.
    • Once the client is installed, follow the instructions in the Knowledge Base article to install the update within the guest to correct the cuase of the root of the problem.
    • When you have installed the update and turn off your virtual machine, you can remove the limitation of 1024 x 768 display that you added earlier.

Your Oracle Linux VM should then work correctly.

Please let us know if this solves the problem for you!

    Thank you

  • Installation of Linux on Satellite C850-12R

    Hello

I bought Toshiba Satellite C850-12R and I want to add a linux beside windows 7 preinstalled installation, and I have a question:
Shrink a partition of windows by default and then this free space Ubuntu installation, done problem with possible resumption of default Windows (I mean, when I would go back to the installation of the fresh manufactor)?

Or should I just format entire disk (also remove recovery partition and this strange partition after the Windows partition), fresh install of Windows 7 (I have a disk with a windows 7) and then install ubuntu?

    Thanks for any help.

PS I hope I post this thread in an appropriate sub-forum.

You can install Linux. No problem at all, but please note that Toshiba doesn't support Linux OS and you're on your own with it.

Before you do this and begin to change the factory settings create recovery disk. Don t forget it.

    Faruq Sandi

    Hello faruqsandi,

I saw your photos on your problem and wants help. After researching your question and having the same problem happen on my old HP tent system holder a Linux installation. I am lead to believe that the linux OS CD that you are using does not allow installation and if you are able to run the Windows operating system, the error "Non system disk or disk error" is not a problem with a hard drive:

(More information: "Non system disk or disk error")

    FIX - IT as follows:

1.) make sure you are able to install the Linux cd on another system.

3.) attempt the installation with another cd of Linux to check if the installation is successful.

  • Installation of 4500 HP Envy does not accept the IP on printer

I was installing my new HP Envy 4500, and everything was a lot. The printer connected to my router Westell 7500 wireless and I can see it on the network with the IP 10.0.0.17. When the installation on my computer, I get to the point where he asks the IP address on the screen.  I can't clear the checkpoint.  He dislikes this IP address. (It seems like a simple IP address, is it not?) HP Envy is compatible with my Westell wireless router? This is 802.11 g, not n, but that doesn't seem like it should be a problem.

I tried all available suggestions and tips:

-I can connect via USB, but when I try to convert a wireless connection, I'm stuck again.

-J' tried the program doctor of HP, and it tells me that the installation is not complete and gives me a new download, but that the download is blocked between 30 and 70 of 115, so I'm stuck here as well.

[It's kind of weird that it is somewhat similar to the problem I had with my old Lexmark HP printer which prompted me to try a new printer. All of a sudden I had communication problems. As a first step, the document would be stuck at 15% while queue. After that I could see this printer on the network, but my computer could not communicate with her at all. This makes me think that I might have a problem with Windows 7? I tried to restart the spooler, but that didn't work either.]

I am running Windows 7 64 bit on an Acer Aspire.

    Any ideas?

Then it took me five days, but I finally my printer works perfectly, and I love it.

After running many diagnostics on my computer, I came to the conclusion that I had a problem of windows 7.  I restored to factory settings (because windows even backup was stunning on me). After that installation is progressing beautifully and I got the printer set up in a few minutes.

Was it a virus? Windows flip out because I had already run a Lexmark printer? What happened a month that made me lose communication with my old printer. I'll never know.

But, I have solved my problem, so I'm happy.

  • regarding the installation of Linux on a 8900 XPS

A number of Linux distributions do not install on a 8900 XPS effort. (which mostly worked well on a XPS 8500)

All the solutions to allow mounting to dual boot with Linux?

I came across the same problem initially: the system would just stroll early in the installation process. Editing the grub command-line to boot the kernel with the following option solved the problem he for me:

    pcie_aspm = off

Obviously, persist after installation if you don't want to change the command line to each boot.

  • Installation of Linux on a XPS 8500

    Dear Dell,

I just replaced my old Dell Dimension with a new 8500 XPS at great expense. On my old size, I was able to load Linux on a completely separate drive. When I tried to boot into Linux, I was able to change the boot priority and start Linux. However, to my dismay, I can't do this on my easily on XPS machine. I bought this machine to do with it as I wanted and not be attached to the use right of Windows 8.

From my understanding, this can be achieved by disabling Secure Boot or any DELL call, but it is true that, without the protection of start-up scheduled. My understanding is correct?

What I'm looking for from DELL is on how to do it. I'm not asking DELL how to install LInux, but I am looking for guidance on how to. to get my machine in position to do it and the ramifications to do. I install Linux on a completely separate disk so as not to disturb the 8 installation of the window.

When I bought the machine, nothing on the website to indicate how blocked in the operating system of the window that you are. I think that DELL has a duty of care to help customers who are in this position is to say be bothered using the PC for other uses, which should fall to the consumer.

I know I'm not the only customer that wishes to do this and your help in this matter is greatly appreciated.

If you change the UEFI boot in legacy Mode, you need to reinstall Windows 8. So you can image of entire hard drive before doing this, just in case you decide to cancel...

Unfortunately, other manufacturers of PC and Dell are stuck with many things forced on them by Microsoft.

You may search these forums for further discussions on installing Linux on the XPS 8500.

If you Win 8 Pro or Ultimate, you have right to demotion free for Windows 7 Pro, which might be more tolerant of your dual-boot arrangement. But you will need to install Win 7 in traditional way with Secure Boot disabled in the BIOS.

Without Secure Boot enabled in BIOS, you'd be no more at risk you'd be with Win 7 on any old PC version.

  • no player under Linux Ubuntu - ENVY 14 1050ca SD cards

    Hello world!!

Got this HP (envy 14 1050ca) a few months ago. Apart from the difficulties to install linux due to raid configuratios (I've posted about this before, finally, I got on top of it) the computer works very well under the new OS and now I can run Win + linux. The only thing is that so far he does not my SD card reader when I'm working with my partition linux... and also he does not SD cards when it is plugged into a USB card reader, which makes me think it's not a problem on the (i.e. the missing driver) SD card reader but some inability to recognize what kind of devices without distinction of the port their plugged in. Any ideas on how to make this work?

    Thank you!!

Then it turns out that the problem was a built-in card reader is SD,.
