Installation of Linux on Satellite C850-12R

Hello

I bought Toshiba Satellite C850-12R and I want to add a linux beside windows 7 preinstalled installation, and I have a question:
Shrink a partition of windows by default and then this free space Ubuntu installation, done problem with possible resumption of default Windows (I mean, when I would go back to the installation of the fresh manufactor)?

Or should I just format entire disk (also remove recovery partition and this strange partition after the Windows partition), fresh install of Windows 7 (I have a disk with a windows 7) and then install ubuntu?

Thanks for any help.

PS I hope I post this thread in an appropriate sub-forum.

You can install Linux. No problem at all, but please note that Toshiba doesn't support Linux OS and you're on your own with it.

Before you do this and begin to change the factory settings create recovery disk. Don t forget it.

    Hi all

I hope someone can help me with the following story.

My Toshiba laptop (type Satellite C850 - 19(d), type found elsewhere on the Toshiba site) is that it crashed and won t from hard disk initialization. Now, I wanted to try to use a Windows recovery USB 8.1. I did this on the Windows site, but now I understand that before you need a product key that I don't have.

I then tried to make a Toshiba USB recovery (which I had already done so), but we don't know don't no where I can get this file for me.

Can someone help me with this?

When she came back to me, I started to install the operating system and drivers (my computer portable edition does not include operating system drivers).

I faced a serious problem and it was not existing before, when installing "Toshiba Bluetooth Stack for Windows" the installation process is not completed successfully and it's freezes to an important point.

    Hello

I think I know what you did wrong the laptop supports the Realtek Wlan / BT combo card.

This means that a single module shares the feature WLan and BT.
    To ensure that the two would work correctly, a [Bluetooth Filter Driver Package | http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/download_driver_details.jsp?service=EU&selCategory = 2 & selFamily = 2 & selSeries = 312 & selProduct = 7499 selSh 3439 = ortMod & language = 13 & selOS = 30 & selType = all & yearu pload = & monthupload = & dayupload = & useDate = null & mode = a llMachines & search = & action = search & macId = & country = al l & selectedLanguage = 13 & type = all & page = 1 & ID = 81895 & OSI D = 30 & driverLanguage = 42] must be installed.
After that, you could install the battery Toshiba BT.

Next to the installation of this software, you must also install VAP (value added package) which is an essential part in the Windows 7 environment.

    Once again:
    First install: VAP
Then Realtek Wlan driver, after this suite Bluetooth Filter Driver Package by Toshiba BT stack

  • Re: Is it possible to install Windows XP Home on my Satellite C850

    Hello

I currently have a Toshiba Satellite C850 running Linux on this subject. I was wondering, it would be possible to put a windows xp installation disc in and it works? Or will I have to change a few things because I've heard of others having problems.

    Thanks in advance ;)

    > (The reason I wanted xp is because of the layout and design of it)

Believe me, that Windows 7 is much better Win XP will not be supported by Microsoft in the near future.
This means no patches, no updates, nothing
That's why Linux or Win 7 are much better options

    Hello

Have you installed original recovery image that you created on the USB key?

Please try to install it again. Usually after installation of the own image of recovery your laptop should boot correctly.

By the way: have you noticed this problem right after the installation, or later after some updates to install.

Have you tried to solve it using Windows start-up settings?

  • WIFI and BT do not work on Satellite C850-F12S

    Hello
My friend has a portable Satellite C850-F12S who wouldn't start so he asked me to fix it.
I used a Windows 7 disc retail and product key as his cell phone to reinstall windows.

I downloaded the Atheros wireless, intel drivers and realtek, but none of them want to install. I have the seam of Ant to get the wifi or bluetooth, too much work.

When I enter the serial number in this site it is said that it is bluetooth and wifi but the drivers wont install and when I go to "network and sharing", "change adapter settings" it only shows the ethernet adapter nothing else. I tried pressing fn + f12 and the wireless led turns amber, but still nothing.

I ran out of ideas. Could someone help me fix it please?
    Thanks in advance

I can't read this specification for laptop (too small), but so deep is the product key, which means that this laptop model was offered with the original version of Windows preinstalled.
Before that you're wasting your time trying to fix something I recommend you install the original version of OS which includes all necessary drivers, tools and utilities.

I just hope that your friend have created recovery (DVD or USB) media because after your Windows disk recovery facility installation HARD does not work.

Ask your friend if there a recovery media and use it for the installation of the OS.

  • Pointer freezes on brand new Satellite C850

    Hello
I just bought a new Toshiba Satellite C850, everything works perfectly, however, there is one thing that gets annoying...

The pointer keeps freezing once I have start using it, i.e. I can click to open an app and the cursor freezes for a few seconds before allowing me to use it. Alternatively, once I touch the keyboard to move the cursor, it doesn't move for a few seconds before it allows me to continue.

Even as I type, I am trying to move to an area to select but the cursor won't move for about one second. She does it every time.

Anyone know why this might be happening and how it can be fixed?

    Thank you

Have you noticed the HARD drive activity heavy when it happens (HDD LED flashes)?
Maybe a background activity slows performance s notebook.

It may be the installation of Windows updates or something similar.
Are you using the original Antivirus application that you got with your laptop or other favorite apps?

  • Re: Satellite C850 unbootable - broken HARD drive

    Hello people,

    I bought a * Toshiba Satellite C850 - 1F2 * with * + Windows 8 + *.
After installation, the upgrade to * + Windows 8.1 + * and setting up everything, the whole machine worked well enough.

BUT since yesterday, the laptop no longer starts!
When I turn it on, the HARD drive is click and click and the system tries to boot from DVD, USB, HARD drive, IPv4, IPV6, and then he said, that there is no boot device.

Unfortunately, I tried to do the + restore Windows 8 - backup - DVD + this weekend!
    Huh!

Well, I have one more * + Windows-7-DVD original and license + *, which would be good as well (I used it in recent years).
    * YET *, I can't install * + Windows 7 + *.
He says something like that, that this system is not available for Secure Boot +.

    I read about 'Secure Boot'.
So I pressed F2, turned on the laptop and managed with this BIOS.
    It's a * + InsydeH20 Rev 3.7 + *.
    * BUT *, when I go to "Boot Mode" I don't see myself, this option is grayed out and I cannot change the UEFI Boot + to ++ CSM Boot +.

Even changing the HARD drive made no difference.
I put in my old HDD with Windows 7 installed (which works in the other laptop), but the system does not start, because it is + not suitable for Secure Boot +.

    * Then, of WHAT NOW? *
I mean, we can't really politics of Toshiba, you need to take your laptop, if the HARD drive breaks, it can?
Because I create the rescue-DVD, I just my DVD of Windows 7 and an another HARD drive and installed Windows 7.

I have to buy another license of Windows 8 and an another disk to reinstall Windows 8 (suitable for Secure Boot)?
Would it even work like that?
Or is it possible to upgrade the BIOS for it, I can then change boot UEFI to CSM Boot?
Or is there another chance, to use my other HDD with Windows 7, or at least a new HARD clean disk, on which I can then install my Windows 7 operating system?

I hope someone can give me good advice, what to do now... without throwing the Toshiba laptop ;)

    Thanks in advance!

    > I hope that someone can give me good advice, what to do now... without throwing the Toshiba laptop
Let's start with this sentence. You must not throw your laptop. There's always a last stage that can be done and in your case, you can contact the nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help.
This model of laptop is fairly new, so I can imagine that the warranty is still valid, so I think you should contact the service and ask if you can get a new HARD drive for free. I mean why not if the warranty is still valid.

  • Satellite C850 - 19(d) - unknown device ACPI/TOS6205 Windows 7

    I am a unknown device in windows 7 on a toshiba Satellite C850 - 19(d).
    The hardware ID is ACPI/TOS6205.

Suggestions of Al in the forum and the net did not work:

It is not bluetooth: the two drivers in the drivers download page, none has solved the problem:
    [t 72426]

HDD/SSD Alert Utility and PC Health Monitor installation because of the suggestion that he had a problem with HDD Protection Utility:
    [m 201203]
    [t 53498]

    Can anyone help with this?
    Thanks in advance

    Hello

The ACPI/TOS6205 seems to be the Bluetooth device.
    Satellite C850 - 19(d) was equipped with a Realtek RTL8188CE - VLSA WLan / Bt combo card.
That's why I m sure its BT device.

You said that you have installed the driver BT but it didn t work.
I think that you did it wrong.

The point is that WLan / Combo cards needs a filter driver BT package.
IF you need to install: Realtek WLan driver, then driver Realtek BT filter package and, finally, the battery Toshiba BT.

    Welcome them

  • New Satellite C850 freezes at startup

only has this laptop Satellite C850 for a few weeks and have not installed any software apart from a landing Mcfee and the installation of Avast virus checker.

Now, it freezes without response touchpad when he opens a session.
I updated the machine having been finally able to use F12, once it begins, not a simple gesture, he always behaves as before.

I used the toshiba support area to inform them of this situation, but are still waiting for a response after having heard nothing in the past 36 hours. Are these any good people?

They seem very far from the service that I received from Acer when I need help. I prefer to use e-mail rather than phone calls.

Thanks for any help... I pressume it's a hardware problem

    Hi Martin

On this virtual path, it is not easy to say why this is happening. It happens all of a sudden, or when you perform a specific operation?

  • Satellite C850-19Z - boot loop error

    I have a Toshiba Satellite C850 - 19Z on Windows 8. I got it for about 18 months.

At startup, the Toshiba logo comes up as usual. Then a blue error screen comes up with a:(émoticône & dit le portable devra redémarrer.) The Toshiba logo rises again with 'AutoFix preparation', then the screen turns off. Still on but blank, & then it just keep looping it. I took it for my University COMPUTER support, they tried to recover with a disc of Windows 8, but it did not work. I contacted Toshiba, they sent me the 8 step guide to recover the hard disk (0 to start holding), but after selecting Yes, it just goes back in the loop again.

Hoping someone can help. It just happened out of the blue when I was not even in the room. I've accepted the fact that I will lose everything on it, but if there was a way to run and save all my stuff, this would be ideal!

It's not easy help this issue.
In my opinion the best test would be USB or DVD recovery recovery recovery image installation, but somehow I feel you didn't create this recovery, right media?

  • Re: Satellite C850-B763 - I've lost my original version of Win8

    Hello

I have a problem, I bought a Satellite C850-B763 laptop with win 8 pre-installed and suddenly my pc works as normal, I don't know if it is because the virus or there is a windows problem, anyway I had to format my drive, but I forgot that I did not get a victory of dvd with my laptop.

I had to use a win 7 and I want to have windows 8 so is there a way to recover my original Win8 pre-installed?

    Thank you

To be honest you have big problem. Please don't get me wrong, but I don't understand why you don't read the manuals s user document and pick up some information about your product. It is clearly described that original recovery image is saved on the HARD drive and you can re-install using recovery option.

Also there is an option to create a recovery media. It can be DVD or USB. This recovery media can be used if there is a problem with the installation of recovery of HARD drive or HARD drive itself. Now you really have a big problem. I presume you didn't create this recovery and after installing Win7 support, you have factory settings and installation of HARD drive recovery is no longer possible.

If you want to have the original version of Win8 to your laptop you must order the original recovery disk. It can be ordered on https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx
