I checked on other servers, it will create the directory as the ORACLE_HOME/oc4j/j2ee/OC4J_DBConsole_ < host name > _orcl.

The problem occurred because of your file/etc/hosts. The Oracle installer uses the first entry it finds in the file/etc/hosts for the name of the directory of the repository.

In any case, correct your * file/etc/hosts *. A hosts file properly configured under Linux using oel.example.com as the hostname IP 10.0.0.1 + should look as follows:

# cat /etc/hosts
# Do not remove the following line, or various programs
# that require network functionality will fail.
127.0.0.1     oel.example.com oel localhost.localdomain localhost
::1          localhost6.localdomain6 localhost6
#
10.0.0.1     oel.example.com oel

To work around the problem after installation, using the example of hosts file above:

cd $ORACLE_HOME
ln -s localhost_orcl oel.example.com_orcl
cd $ORACLE_HOME/oc4j/j2ee
ln -s OC4J_DBConsole_localhost_orcl OC4J_DBConsole_oel.example.com_orcl

Note:

To avoid the problem when installing Oracle, be sure that the etc/hosts file is configured correctly, or set the variable ORACLE_HOSTNAME for example:

$ export ORACLE_HOSTNAME=oel.example.com

When the host name of the database (including the domain name) or the IP address changes, Unconfigure and then reconfigure the Console database with the create command repository. Run the following commands:

$ emca -deconfig dbcontrol db -repos drop
$ emca -config dbcontrol db -repos create

or

$ emca -deconfig dbcontrol db
$ emca -config dbcontrol db -repos recreate

When initially, you install the Oracle 11 g database or configure the database with EMCA control, control of the database uses a set of default ports on the system. For example, by default, you access control database using the port 1158 in 11g Release 1, as in:

https://host.domain:1158 / em

Portlist.ini keep the info on the port assigned to the url dbconsole. However, when you rebuild the repository on the console, the port goes from 1158 to 5500 + ports.

You can list the ports currently available:

$ cat $ORACLE_HOME/install/portlist.ini

To reconfigure the dbconsole ports:

emca -reconfig ports

Using EMCA during the AMT Configuration has changed:

$ emca -config dbcontrol db

Examples of listener.ora and tnsnames.ora, located in $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin, by default:

[orcl@oel]$ cat tnsnames.ora
# tnsnames.ora Network Configuration File: /u01/app/oracle/product/112/db/network/admin/tnsnames.ora
# Generated by Oracle configuration tools.

LISTENER_ORCL =
  (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = localhost)(PORT = 1521))

ORCL =
  (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = localhost)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
      (SERVER = DEDICATED)
      (SERVICE_NAME = orcl.example.com)
    )
  )

[orcl@oel]$ cat listener.ora
# listener.ora Network Configuration File: /u01/app/oracle/product/112/db/network/admin/listener.ora
# Generated by Oracle configuration tools.

LISTENER =
  (DESCRIPTION_LIST =
    (DESCRIPTION =
      (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC1521))
      (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = localhost)(PORT = 1521))
    )
  )

ADR_BASE_LISTENER = /u01/app/oracle

To start the process of listner:

$ lsnrctl start

I hope this helps.

    Everything you did for RHEL5.2 will work perfectly in OEL5.2

    You raise a very good point: the unfortunate fact is that there is * nothing * to all to OEL a house "better" or "easier" for that plain old RHEL Oracle databases. There is no core set environment variable user parameters or pre configured, for example, it would be just for an Oracle straight out of the box installation: you must always you fix all exactly as if it were of RHEL.

    This is normal: OEL was and is intended to be binary compatible with RHEL and therefore no settings of Oracle or parameters that are not in RHEL can be included in the OEL.

    So yes, if it's complicated on RHEL, it is exactly as complicated as on OEL.

    (I'm biased though: If you use my script to doris, you will find that you can install Oracle on virtually any Linux distribution as easily as any other.) See http://dizwell.com/2008/05/01/doris-redux, and if you want to watch a video of how to do to use the script: http://dizwell.com/2008/09/29/proving-a-point/)

  • Installing Oracle on Unix and Linux

    Hi guys

    I think that this is my first post here.

    I do research on virtualization in distributed systems. What I do is to have:

    6 OS on VirtualBox and VMWare which will be UNIX, Ubuntu Linux, OpenSUSE Linux and WinXP
    An Oracle database on the host of Win7 and another database Oracle on one of the Linux operating system.
    Win7 host will have a full Oracle installation while the virtual OS will have Oracle customers.

    I can't find where to download that can be used for Unix and Linux installation of Oracle files.
    I found this http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/enterprise-edition/downloads/index.html
    but after downloading the files from Unix and Linux client, I can't use them to install.
    And why is Oracle give these for free? Are these assessment development or student licensed?

    Thank you.

    Thanks for the responses guys.

    Ed, among virtual Linux operating systems will have a database.

    I read the documentation of the Linux client and it is a long process. I was hoping there would be something more simple as simply run an exe file as in Windows. I have download a .deb for 10g package sometimes back and who acted as an exe on Windows. Don't no what website I downloaded only from and if they have the 11g now.

    Well, let's do the long process!

    This is the canonical trial. And its work :)
