Installation of Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 problems

Since the recent release of Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, I have since downloaded the ISO from Microsoft (SW_DVD5_Windows_Svr_DC_EE_SE_Web_2008_R2_64Bit_English_w_SP1_MLF_X17-22580. ISO) and tried to install it on my sandbox (ESXi 4.1.0 260247) and I will have questions.

The problem is that Windows does not have a driver for the SCSI controller device.  I tried to change the type of "LSI Logic SAS' to 'LSI Logic" parallel "and it does not solve the problem.  I tried to download a Windows 2008 LSI SAS of LSI driver directly (http://www.lsi.com/storage_home/products_home/standard_product_ics/sas_ics/lsisas1068/index.html) and use it, and still have had no luck.

I was wondering if anyone has had any success in installing Windows 2008 R2 SP1 on ESX or ESXi 4.0 or 4.1?

Hi Ken

It is the same as the previous one:

  • T330 incompatibility of Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 install USB 3.0

The T330 has no native support for USB 2.0.  Installation of Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 media has no native support of USB 3.0. Installation of the OS then the mouse and keyboard do not work.   I tried to inject the drivers USB 3.0 into Server 2008 Windows ISO (see: https://www.dell.com/support/article/us/en/04/SLN300618/en ).   Injection in ISO works fine and it solved the problem of no keyboard or mouse to begin the installation of the OS

BUT once the base OS is installed and you come to the first post install screen (when it is now booting from the hard drive) to change the password and proceed with the installation, the keyboard and the mouse are again in opening.    My best guess is that the USB 3.0 drivers do not get installed on the hard disk.  I tried to start again and reinstall the operating system but same result.  The creation of the ISO by KB post above was clean and efficient.  No errors.

"I saw a different Dell ' Faq ' recommend to disable USB 3.0 is the BIOS OF THE system.  On this current - nine T330 - model, BIOS update, there is no BIOS setting/option.

Looking for a solution.   Had an old PCI USB 2.0 card, but the machine has no PCI ports.  Consider trying a USB 2.0 PCIE card.

What is amazing, is that Dell sells the T330 No. USB 2.0 compatible - installation of SP1 W2008R2 difficult and perhaps impossible.  NOTE: this OS is a Dell supported OS for the T330 I would not have bought if it wasn't supposed to be supported (I am restoring a DC with this OS due to a mother failed on a server of EP).

Solved: Bought a PCIE USB 2.0 card. This works.  Model is Sonnet Allegro USB PCIe (2.0).

If I had known, I would have just bought the thing and ignored the whole pilot injection exercise.

  • Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 AHCI RAID change

    Hello

    OS: Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1
    Storage: 1 x SSD
    Tip: Supermicro X9SRW-f

Currently, the SATA in the BIOS option is on AHCI. Start Windows on the desktop without problem.

Objective: Convert AHCI Raid mode. The integrated chipset to create a matrix to mirror with 2 x SSD.

I downloaded the disk driver for this card and installed the Intel Rapid Storage driver/software. I reboot and switch the SATA Raid mode. Windows starts to load and immediately blue screens. Put the SATA to AHCI mode allows me to boot successfully.

There are a few other drivers from the disc. Install these drivers, the windows are no longer boot in AHCI or Raid mode.
iaStorA.inf: installs rest AHCI Raid Controller Miniport + RTS filter driver
iaStorB.inf: installs rest AHCI Raid Controller Miniport + RTS filter driver

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\IastorV (set to 0 Start)

How can I activate the raid option and get Windows to start without error? Registry hack? Other drivers?

    * Note the OS has been cloned for the SSD. I don't have the option for the new Windows installation.

    MsiExec.exe /i Dell_Client_Integration_Pack.msi

I even put the command above into a batch file and run it with the same result. With the help of Trace32, I also found this error to be the main problem causing the failure of this facility:

First unzip the files from the downloaded executable deployment package. Then, download Orca here, http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/archive/2004/07/12/180792.aspx. Once installed Orca, do a right click Extract MSI and select, "Edit with Orca. Once Orca lance, do not panic, just click on the top menu and select, "Transform", then select "Transformation." Then go to the 'Custom Actions' Table on the left and find the "InstallSccmComponents" entry on the right; Change the value in the column "Type" 3073, then go to "transform", "Generate Transform", save the transformation in the same directory as your MSI and select, and then close Orca.

    To install, use the following command line;

    MsiExec.exe /i \Dell_Server_Deployment_Pack_v1.2_for_ConfigMgr_A01.msi TRANSFORMS =-number

I found myself by opening a ticket with Dell to get this problem finally solved. After the installation of Dell's Support log shipping, they asked me to follow these steps below:

1 if the SQL DB is on a separate machine, try to create the "SMS_TaskSequence_Action" class in WMI under \\.\root\sms\site_ >.  You can download WMI Explorer to browse if you want to see if this class already exists.  Run the script below will not hurt if it already exists.

    a. here are the instructions to create the custom class.  First open powershell as an administrator.

    b. set-executionpolicy RemoteSigned

    c. change the extension on the attached in .ps1 file and change the file to replace the "site_abc" by "site_their 3 letter site code.

    d. change the storage location of the ps1 file.

    e... \WMIClassAdd.ps1

    f. restart and try the installation again.

    3. If it still does not work, send me the newspaper install again to look at.

    Note:

Here is what was in the attachment in step C.

    ****************************************************************************

    $newClass = ' new-Object System.Management.ManagementClass

    ("root\sms\site_abc", [String]: empty, $null);

    $newClass ["__CLASS"] = "SMS_TaskSequence_Action";

    $newClass.Qualifiers.Add ("Static", $true)

    $newClass.Put)

    *************************************************************************

After you run the instructions above and restarted the server, installing v2.0 CPID ended successfully.

I hope that these instructions will help someone in the future... :))

  • T61 4 GB RAM on Windows Server 2008 64 bit problems

Hi, I just bought 2 * 2 GB Crucial PC5300 667 Mhz memory to upgrade my T61 that has 2 * 1 GB installed before. Hardware installation is smooth and easy, I followed all the steps in the maintenance manual. Then I restart the computer, BIOS can recognize that it has 4096MB ram installled. My operating system is Windows Server 2008 Enterprise 64-bit, which, unlike these 32-bit system, I am sure that it can handle more than 3 GB of memory. It is found in the system, and and showed there is 4 GB of memory, but in other programs like Everest, CPU - z, or Photoshop, even in the task manager all told me that there are only 2 GB of memory.

I was confused and thinking that it might be the Crucial problem of the new memory, then I install only a SINGLE memory of 2GB each time. They can enter the system and be recognized as 2 GB. So the new Crucial memories have no problem. Then I combined the old 1 GB memory and new 2 GB Crucial memory to boot. Windows can also recognize 3 GB ram but only 2 GB of it can be used.

It seems that 2 GB is the threshold of this system, any combination of greater than 2 GB can be recognized but cannot be used. However, it should not be like this since Windows Server 64-bit, theratically it can manage more than 512 GB of memory. That's happened? What should I do to remove this threshold? Windows problems? T61 problem.

BTW, I've updated the BIOS of the laptop to the latest version. 01/07/2008

This is the snapshot of the screen, my Windows is the Chinese version, but the crucial information is in English.

    http://farm3.static.Flickr.com/2194/2949357419_857717624d_o.jpg

How dramatic is... It seems that I can use all 4 GB right now. I made a few changes and changes of the last

Boot, however I don't know that we are contributing to the problem.

    During the last closure, I

    (1) switched the 2 Crucial memory slot,

    (2) put on the battery (it has been disconnected since the first time I changed the memory).

    (3) disabled windows virtual memory (now my laptop only works on real RAM, Yes...)

something like this works now, thank you wjli2!

PS: I posted the same topic in the forum "Blade" by mistake. Apology.

"Do you mean that if my BIOS/SATA configuration has been set to RAID 1 I should have drivers chipset/AHCI for a successful installation?"

No, because you are not using the onboard SATA RAID - your built-in SATA is used ONLY by your optical drive, so it should not be in RAID and AHCI usually requires special drivers, which is not required when you use optical drives.  However, pilots of chipset/AHCI may have helped Windows to see the optical drive in such a way that the installation could proceed (if she needs the RAID controller for real hard disks, you will NOT see this particular message - you will see another message when Windows cannot find not all drives to be installed on).

"When someone would set RAID 1 for sata configuration?"

ONLY if you use the S110 RAID controller onboard.  You use the H310, so you don't want to mess with the SATA RAID on board.

1 double-click the MSP file or enter the following in a command prompt window:

The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the Windows Installer because the program to be upgraded is may be missing, or the upgrade patch may be a different version of the program. Verify that the program to be upgraded exists on your computer and that you have the correct upgrade patch.
