Installation of XP SP3 causes startup problems

Just done the SP3 download and now Windows won't start.  It goes into a loop, if I try to boot into Normal mode.  Only way to start Windows is in Mode without failure.

  • Windows Update Causes startup problem

    I have an interesting problem with Windows Update (or apparently is from Windows Update). I am running Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit, if that info is needed. There are two updates I have not install, as I am not sure that is the cause. The updates in question are Internet Explorer 8 and Windows Defender definitions 1.63.604.0. Here's what's happening.

    When you restart after Windows updates, the computer starts with a black screen with a mouse pointer. That's all. Happened every time I tried to start after the pdates. I can reboot into SafeMode very well, is apparently a problem driver or update.

    I also installed DivX on the computer, but it seemed to work as I could watch .avi via WMP thereafter, so I excluded. I thought that if there was a problem with it, it would not have worked in the first place, but I thought it was interesting.

    In any case, the only solution I found doing a system restore and do not install updates day or DivX, since technically I don't know which is the cause. I had to restore the system 3 times already and I didn't continue to do because this computer was very expensive and I don't want to ruin the hardware or something.

    Someone knows something about an error with updates, or perhaps with DivX that may have caused this. The computer works fine without the updates or DivX, I just want to know what could be the real problem so if it is only one of the 3, I can install the other two at least.

    Change your update settings, install the updates one at a time, hide the problem:

    Click Start > right click on computer > properties > Windows updates down the lower left corner > updates installed in the lower left corner in the next window

    > then click the one that you don't want > uninstall will appear at the top > uninstall it.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    In addition, on the page where you clicked "Installed updates", click on change settings at the top left corner it
    > Change update settings in the next page of AutoUpdate to "check for updates but let me choose etc" > OK ".
    When you take a look at pending updates, you can either download/install them one at the time, namely the update causing you problems.
    > or if you do not need an individual > right-click on > UAC prompt > hide it
    See you soon.
  • WIn Vista for 13/12/11 updates cause startup problem
    Hello
    There was some 16 published "Windows Updates" yesterday.   After applying my Vista system would not restart until they have been regularized.
    I don't know which one caused the problem.   I guess I could let the updates from the Office product be applied again to try to limit the update at the origin of the problem.
    But do you know what is wrong?
    Larry
    Hi LarryMcMahon,
    Download the latest driver chipset directly from the manufacturer. If Windows was preinstalled on your computer, you can find the driver on the website of the manufacturer of the computer.
  • Roxio uninstall causing startup problems
    My system is a Dell Inspiron 518 on Windows Vista Home Premium, 64-bit desktop. The Roxio Creator OF 10.2 has been pre-installed by Dell. I decided to uninstall the unused program, carefully follow the instructions on the Roxio site, which includes editing the registry keys and delete hidden files.
    I found myself with starting seeds: two previously used programs 'configuration' at every start, my Dell Dock missing language files, my McAfee Security Center giving a popup "system is at risk", which immediately becomes "the system is protected" when I click on 'technical assistance '.
    I tried to use a just system restore before uninstalling the Roxio program, but my problem persists.  However, I have a file that is an export of the registry before I made some changes according to the instructions of Roxio. I have the Roxio installation disc that came with my Dell.
    My questions are all related:
    Should I try importing the registry from the point just before the uninstall?  If so, is it possible to export the current registry so that it is a separate file that I want to use - in other words, export the current registry as a measure of protection would cause him to crush the export that I wanted to use?
    Finally, it would be wise to try to reinstall the program disk Roxio if import above does not solve my problems start?
    Hi tealbingy,.
    This document should help you import the registry keys.
  • XP: new software causes startup problems
    I installed a couple look at a picture and photo transfer software when I bought a digital camera. After that, my Windows XP system does not start successfully, and he says that recent changes of HW SW are to blame. It gives the option to revert to the last configuration that worked. This happens every time, even after I removed the software. How can I do recall this successful configuration in the future?
  • "Remove all" snapshots causing startup problems.  How to manually compile snapshots?
    Hey guys,.
    We run our production and test servers ESXi 3.5 with great success.  However, like many others, we have struggling to find a good economic backup solution if we use a Perl script edited by for this.  The script applies a snapshot and then copying the original files for the guests.  In the end, the script removes the snapshot, and we're back in business.  Most of the time, everything works perfectly.  This morning, we arrived to find the extremely slow server with about 10 snapshots.  Not realizing exactly what "remove all" done in terms of balooning, the size of the previous snapshots, we chose this selection.  The Server shut down (I guess due to the increase in the size of the previous snapshots) and when we tried to restart, we encountered the error that you see in the attachment.
    Look a bit more close to the data store, it seems that most of the snapshots for virtual disk 1 have been removed, but it has been left over.  The other virtual disks 2-4 were intact.  The server does not start and if I return to the .vmdks that are available, I've lost two weeks of a data value.  Is it possible to manually apply the changes in snapshots to the .vmdks so that we can keep as many changes as possible on the 2-4 drives?
    Thank you
    Seth
    OK - now I would use vmkfstools to each of the 4 drives clone.
    the first is NOMADSERV01_1 - 000009.vmdk
     vmkfstools -i NOMADSERV01_1-000009.vmdk /nomadserv-disk1.vmdk
    next is "NOMADSERV01_2 - 000009.vmdk".
      vmkfstools -i NOMADSERV01_2-000009.vmdk /nomadserv-disk2.vmdk
    before you try, you must correct the snapshot of the string that was spoiled by the basediskalone running.
    I think that the first two should work if you use the edited files, I have attached.
    Then, two coming soon
  • ... of the vista startup problems
    laptop computer tosiba purchased 11/2008.  running vista.  crashes at startup. then comes the Startup Repair, System Restore with message 'root cause found, unspecified changes to the system configuration could be the problem'.  then it starts and all is well.  until the next time I start up.  then it repeats.  is there a solution to this? Thank you
    Hi harmonicamoon,
    1. Did you the latest changes on the computer?
    2. You receive an error message when it crashes at startup?
    Check if the problem persists when you start in safe mode.
    Start your computer in safe mode
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/start-your-computer-in-safe-mode
    Restart the computer to return to normal mode.
    If you can start in safe mode, and then perform the clean boot procedure and check if that helps.
    It is possible that some third-party programs installed on the computer is causing the problem.
    To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows Vista or Windows 7 by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.
    See the link below to learn more about how to clean boot.
    How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929135
    Reset the computer to start as usual
    When you are finished troubleshooting, follow these steps to reset the computer to start as usual:
    (a) click Start, type msconfig in the search box and press ENTER.
    (b) If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password or click on continue.
    (c) under the general tab, click the Normal startup option, and then click OK.
    (d) when you are prompted to restart the computer, click on restart.
    If you are unable to boot into safe mode, then I suggest that you do the startup repair using the Windows vista installation disc and check if it helps.
  • Tecra M5 - new installation of XP SP3 - no sound
    I performed a clean installation of XP SP3 on a Tecra M5, downloaded all the drivers from the Toshiba support site, installed in order (according to the install.txt) and that all work sound bar.
    I tried the two drivers available on the download site, both give the same result - windows is pleased and says everything works fine, but still no sound. I tried the (mute) key and its appears under the name now. Volume (on windows) is complete with all other controls. All controls are NOT dumb. I also tried the handwheel of volume at the two extremes, still no sound.
    I looked on the internet and found other users having problems with the sigmatel and XP SP3 drivers. But have not been able to find the right ones for this model. The machine is a Tecra M5 (PTM50E).
    Someone at - it ideas? A download of a compatible driver SP3 would be good.
    See you soon.
    Yes. Remove SP3 and use SP2 supported. I checked the facilities list for this model of laptop and on the first place is classified - Windows XP Professional SP2 ServicePack2.
    I don't know that the drivers on the Toshiba download page are the same drivers as in the recovery image. This means that they are probably not tested with SP3. To be honest, I always use SP2 and I'm happy with it.
  • New problem z50 - 75 wireless? Startup problem
    Hello
    I had an another hp laptop which had a problems but the know-how could not fix it so they give money and I brought another Hp 4 days but then she had to be exchanged because of defective. Currys and PCWORLD even gave, but the problem kept pass. So I just paid the HP one and brought 3 days LENOVO Z50-75 it y a. the first Hp laptop, I had, had dns clients warnings in Event Viewer when you use wireless. Same thing on the new computer hp laptop. This problem still occurs in the LENOVO one too. These events started in Windows 10 for all laptops hp and lenovo. My computer laptop lenovo came with windows 10 in any case. So either it's a bug that should be fixed by a new update for the network adapter needs to be released. Computer laptop lenovo has Qualcomm Atheros the old hp laptop realtek the new computer hp laptop that was defective was and intel double wireless broadband and the same edition, DNS CLIENT EVENTS 1014 WARNINGS are still happening. This is definetley not my ISP fault because I replaced the router, more they found nothing on a week 2 diagnostics test on my internet. SO I just want to say lenovo that if there is a way you can fix this. Another thing is that after installation WIN10 threshold 2 on Lenovo Z50-75 when starting of the laptop it shows the logo screen once then black lenovo and then black screen again, then it boots.   • Vista Home Prem - problems since installation on 26 August updated - USB problems and everything deleted before the update restore points
    I have a Dell XPS 430 quad-processor. Receipt of the August 26 as update automatic updates. Since the computer was restarted after autoupdates, I have problems. Biggest problem is when I switch to another port my 4 ports KVM Trendnet TK - 407K and back on my Dell computer - the computer is blocked and the video is all garbled. My only recourse is to start the computer cold. After the first time it happened, I knew immediately updates, so I went in my restore points to restore back before the update. When I did restore bluescreened, but I was unable to capture data as computer restarted itself and get into the routine of starting fix. Difficulty of startup said it could not solve my problem.
    When I returned to restore to try to restore once again, I found that all my restore points have been removed. I found a utility called the shadow on the web Explorer and installed. He seems to find all my data restore point on the recovery D: drive, but Windows is not seeing them.  I should also mention, usb-wise, given that these updates have been applied, my Canon digital camera is not recognized when I hang it in one of the USB ports.
    Don't know what to do at this point. If I stay on the port on my computer using the KVM switch, my PC at home works well. Unfortunately, it is not realistic that I need to do my job in two laptops that are also connected to the switch.
    I'm tempted to just delete all the updates that have been installed on 8/26 to see if that helps - esp KB973879 I read on this patch causing a lot of problems with other computers.  Another thing that I have not tried is to use the restore from a command prompt application.
    Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
    Thank you!
