Tecra M5 - new installation of XP SP3 - no sound

I performed a clean installation of XP SP3 on a Tecra M5, downloaded all the drivers from the Toshiba support site, installed in order (according to the install.txt) and that all work sound bar.

I tried the two drivers available on the download site, both give the same result - windows is pleased and says everything works fine, but still no sound. I tried the (mute) key and its appears under the name now. Volume (on windows) is complete with all other controls. All controls are NOT dumb. I also tried the handwheel of volume at the two extremes, still no sound.

I looked on the internet and found other users having problems with the sigmatel and XP SP3 drivers. But have not been able to find the right ones for this model. The machine is a Tecra M5 (PTM50E).

Someone at - it ideas? A download of a compatible driver SP3 would be good.

See you soon.

Yes. Remove SP3 and use SP2 supported. I checked the facilities list for this model of laptop and on the first place is classified - Windows XP Professional SP2 ServicePack2.

I don't know that the drivers on the Toshiba download page are the same drivers as in the recovery image. This means that they are probably not tested with SP3. To be honest, I always use SP2 and I'm happy with it.

If you have time check also this interesting thread.

    Hello Ingo

Last days, we read more similar reports on the various problems after installing SP3. As far as I know that Toshiba has faced similar problems after SP2 release and updates were offered. The fact is that SP3 has a negative influence on the different drivers and Toshiba has designed tools and utilities.

For now, Toshiba has not any update and we need to see what will happen in the future. I always use SP2 and do not have similar problems on my laptop satellite.

Or you can live with it and wait for update or restore BONES on time earlier and remove SP3.
I see no solution at the moment.

The Council supports Windows 7, you can get the drivers here (the chipset drivers should be the first drivers you install after installing the operating system.)

  • Installation of XP/SP3 / requests sfc/scannow command

I have a genuine copy of XP SP3 installed on my computer (performed by a computer technician), but previously, I don't have an XP installation CD and I didn't know the details of the product key.

I managed to get the 25 product key - Belarc figure both Magical Jelly Bean (!) Detectors of key Windows gave me exactly the same code.

I also managed to get a XP SP2 installation CD authentic with COA + keys used - haven't seen any ones SP3 and Microsoft is no longer distribute a XP software. It says distribution only with a new PC - is this correct?

Will be a computer technician can reinstall XP SP3 using the this and updated - SP3 will still be available for download now that support has ended for XP?

In addition, you kindly confirm that this CD that will allow me to make the sfc/scannow command. ; When I tried to asked me repeatedly for the XP installation CD.

This CD SP2 / SP3 computer difference leaves me unsure.

A modern operating system would be better I know, but I'm not able to get a new computer at the moment.

Your CD of XP sp2 is an "OEM" version rather than a retail version, but if you have the correct key, it works perfectly.  The problem with OEM installations, is that they are linked to the computer on which they were first installed... then once installed, it cannot be installed on another computer (and replace the motherboard is considered as "another computer").

Service Pack 3 is available for download and will continue to be available in the foreseeable future.  If you have a new installation using the SP2 CD, download you the sp3 and install it manually (you must have sp3 before Windows Update will strive to give you the post-sp3 updates).

That said, it is easy to create an installation cd of sp3 by a process called "slipstreaming".  You can do it yourself, but any competent computer technology needs to know how to do it.  See http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/slipstreaming-windows-xp-to-create-bootable-cd/

You can even create an installation CD which includes sp3 as well as all the critical updates that came after sp3.  See http://xdot.tk/

There are a few caveats to keep in mind before installing sp3:

    Before installing sp3, read this article--> http://support.microsoft.com/kb/950717

If your PC is a HP Pavilion and Presario Media Center and has an AMD processor, this hotfix must be installed before installing sp3-->

    http://h10025.www1.HP.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?CC=UK&LC=en&DLC=en&softwareitem=PV-60484-2

    Install SP3 for download--> http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=24

ignore the text which says that it is for network installations and also ignore the text informing Windows/Microsoft Update If a single update of a PC.

Regarding the use of sfc/scannow command which will require an installation CD is the same service pack that is installed on the computer, BUT using sfc/scannow almost certainly NOT help you in any difficulty that you are likely to encounter.  Despite the many Web sites that you can see who is advised to use this command, simply is not what people think than that, at least for XP.

    Hi Paul,.

You must first install Service Pack 3.

I'm trying to do a fresh install of Windows XP.

    Soyo SY - P41 845PE Lite MB
    Pentium 4, 2.4 GHz
    1.5 GB of Ram

This is a computer that I use every day and who usually has a hard drive with WindowsXP SP3. I just want to have a spare hard drive with a new installation of Windows XP on it.

But installation can not. Usually to auto restart after step 'Copy files' of the installation process. The Windows splash screen appears briefly, and then blue screen message, "a problem has been detected and Windows has shut down to prevent damage to your computer. UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME"followed a few Advisory paragraph which does not apply because the operating system is not yet loaded, then:" technical information: * STOP: (0x8951c900) 0xc0000185 0x00000000 0x00000000. Once he got as far as the Windows Installer screen (one who tells me it will take 39 minutes down left) then a box seemed to read: "Fatal Error. An error was encountered which prevents the installation to continue. Installation failed to install the product catalogs. This is a fatal error. The Setup logs files should contain more information. "Read the Setup log file:" error: the signature for the installation of Windows XP Professional is not valid. " The error code is 80096001. An error occurred during trust verification. »

Another time, after you press enter in the "WindowsXP installation on the selected element", I INSTANTLY got a screen which read; «An error has occurred during installation has been updated of the partition information on 152626 MB disk 0 at Id 0 on bus 0 on atapi [MBR].» Setup cannot continue. »

Things, that I already tried that did not work:

Using two different Windows XP Professional installation disks.

Withdrawal and tries to install with different RAM sticks in place.

Two IDE 40 son different cables, which work fine on this computer.

Two different Western Digital disks hard two test without error using the WD diagnostic utility.

My knowledge is limited, but that seems to leave only a bad card mother, right?  However, as I say, the computer works well with this old install Windows XP on it. He simply refuses to let me do a new installation on another hard drive.

What other steps can I take to get a new installation on a hard drive with this computer?

Thanks to each of you for your attention to my problem.

I spent $4 on a 80 wire cable IDE (to replace the 40-wire cable I used) and I was finally able to get Windows XP installed today.

Because I had done installations in the past with the 40 wire cable, I don't understand why it didn't work anymore. I guess the age of the cable, but I actually had multiple failures with a whole new thread 40 I had just bought. A mystery, but at least I now have a new facility and I am inclined to believe the 80 wire will make for a faster computer.

In all other ways my XP system is up-to-date, with the exception of SP3. I never needed before. SP1 and SP2 have been installed at the time when they were new. Now SP3 is required to upgrade to some new programs. Installation of the SP3 at this late date crush the latest system updates or interfere with programs like IE 8? • cancel a new installation cd

By mistake, I installed a CD, a new installation of xp (sp1).  I want to see if there is any way to cancel and return to my previous settings which had sp3 and all updates.  My system still sees some information from the prior settings but now says I have sp1, an older version of IE, etc..  The restoration of the system, this would allow only for the restoration from when the cd has been installed (yesterday).  I have now two accounts user showing when I boot.  According to me, one is the installation of the cd yesterday and one of my original settings.  Or am I now look at doing a whole new xp install on a clean hard disk?

I am trying to install a new instance of XP/SP3. So I downloaded the ISO image and tried to install it.

I think the link is towards SP3, which is an Update to XP and not a standalone version. Although it is possible to slipstream service pack in the Windows CD and get bootable media to date, I don't think that the link is (among other things, Microsoft probably would not give Windows licenses).

  • Email records retrieved from a drive Thunderbird crashed. You want to import into my new installation.

Tried to copy/paste the files recovered in profiles/Mail/Local folders in my new installation, but without success. I can't find an option to import messages from a folder. Any ideas? Thank you!

Re: tried to copy/paste the files recovered

Are you sure you are copy/paste the correct data?
Emails are stored in files mbox, no records.
MBOX files don't have any extension.

As an example, in the image below, it states:

    • Inbox (mbox file containing the e-mail)
    • Inbox.MSF (indexing file - no emails)
    • Inbox.SBD (if created subfolders of Inbox. This folder contains more than mbox and indexing of files)

    Note:
Thunderbird should be closed when copy paste or do anything in profile files.

There is also an add-on which is pretty good.
    Download downloads folder or desktop.
    https://addons.Mozilla.org/en-us/Thunderbird/addon/ImportExportTools/

    Install:
Tools > Addons or Menu icon > Addons
Click the gear icon and select "install the addon from file".
Locate the downloaded xpi file and click Open
You may have to restart Thunderbird.

    Right click on "local folders".
Select "Importexporttool" > "import a mbox file".
Select: "import directly one or more mbox files" and click OK
Find the mbox files, and then click Open.

Look at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-tb#w_how-to-find-your-profile and then go to the directory corresponding to your external drive to find your old * *.default file.
Copy your old profile to the directory where your current profile is stored.
See https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/using-multiple-profiles to switch to your old GOLD "profiles.ini" edit profile to change the 'path' in the name of your old profile.
    Restart Thunderbird.

I was browsing the internet with Firefox when it froze, so I force quit. I open it, but immediately, it freezes / does the thing of mouse wheel that turns indefinitely, so I have to force quit it again.

I tried restarting and closing of my Mac. Then, I tried to reset Firefox, but it does not. I tried Safe Mode, but it's always immediately the cursor of the spinning wheel. So I tried to do a fresh reinstall several times. But it still keeps having the same problem.

    Help!

Ed. I don't think it could be a problem with my Add ons, because I used the same for years and never had this problem.

One thing I've changed a few days ago is usually I leave my Firefox history store things for centuries, but I thought I'd release RAM by changing these settings. I can't remember which, however, I changed the settings may have changed something then it deletes history and and something else after the closure of each session.

It seems that I found a solution to my problem!

I went in "name of user/Library/Application Support /...» "and deleted the folder of Firefox with the settings of the profile, as it seemed to be the settings I changed what triggered the problem beforehand.

I then with the sacking of the application and downloads of .dmg and remake a new installation. Firefox is now open and work normally for me. (However, I do not know why change my history in the first place settings, causing the problem.)

Please NOTE: If someone else tries this, if you delete the folder, you will lose all your saved bookmarks. There is probably a folder in profiles that you can copy and save to preserve your bookmarks, but I don't know who it is.
